3 CHILDREN S ACTIVITIES Hip Hop Dance for Tweens Flying Horse is partnering with Lanay Dance & Yoga to bring in this popular style of dance. Our Hip Hop Class utilizes upbeat (age appropriate) music from various types of Hip Hop music like R&B, Club, House and Pop. You'll learn to dance to the beat of the latest Hip Hop Hits! We welcome all skill levels and pre-registration is required. This combo is a great way to teach discipline and control, as well as keeping kids fit and healthy with strong bones. Adult Ballroom Dance Class These classes will offer the fun and excitement of ballroom dance with a personal touch. We provide the knowledge and techniques of the different styles of dance including American as well as International to classical music with a mix of modern. These lessons will include traditional ballroom dances such the waltz, tango, cha-cha, and salsa. This style of dance instruction includes hard work, and a passion to move! This class does not require you to have a partner, it requires a positive attitude and a passion to dance! Pickleball Pickleball is a simple paddle game, played with a special perforated, plastic, slow moving ball over a tennis type net on a Badminton sized court. The ball is served underhanded, swinging the paddle below the waist, without bouncing it from the court. The ball is served to the opponent's service zone. Points are scored by the serving side and occur when the opponent faults. The server continues to serve, altering service courts, until server faults. A game is one by the first team which scores 11 points, but must continue until one team achieves a two point margin. Drop-in times for Members and their guests (guests must be accompanied by a member). If you bring a guest, please contact the Security Gate at and check them in at the Front Desk. Guest fees for pickleball only are $5.00 for this event. When: Wednesdays 1:00-3:00pm and Saturdays 9:45-11:45am We will expand these times as needed. (Please remember to check-in at the Front Desk) The Club has 4 wood Diller paddles & balls that can be checked out from the Front Desk on a first come first serve basis. Adult Men s Member Pick-Up Basketball Member Pick-Up Basketball, full court, is on Monday evenings 6:00-8:30pm & Saturday mornings 7:30-9:30am. If you bring a guest, please contact the Security Gate at and check them in at the Front Desk. Guest fees for basketball only are $5.00 for this event. The gym is closed to recreational basketball during this time. Universal Kempo-Karate The Club offers Karate for Kids 4 years of age and older. Sunday, May 12 th 5 th Annual The Russell Golf Tournament ''The Russell" tournament to be held Friday May 3. This event is limited to the first 54 that sign up so please do so quickly. To kick off the 2013 tournament season we will be continuing this great tradition here at The Club in which we would like you to join. Since Russ has retired we are happy to have this event in place to get him back to The Club at least once a year! To honor all that Russ did for The Club, we named our season opening event "The Russell." This tournament is designed for three Members to play with one employee in a four person ABCD random draw best ball. *This event is open to our Golf Members and their spouses only. **Please RSVP by calling the Golf Shop at Kentucky Derby Couples Party! You are invited to 's annual Kentucky Derby Couples Golf Party Saturday May 4 th. This fun event is limited to the first 12 couples who sign up, so please sign up in the Golf Shop by calling (719) or by at twilliams@flyinghorseclub.com. The format for the event will be a one net best-ball of the couple, then after the round each team will pick a horse in the Kentucky Derby field. The order in which you finish the golf portion of the event will determine the draft order of the horses. The owners of the winning horse will win the event. Play will begin with a 12:30pm shotgun start followed by watching the Kentucky Derby. *This event is open to our Golf Members and their spouses only. *The cost of the event is $25 per couple. Sr. Match Play Championship Please join us for the 4 th annual flighted Sr. Match Play Championship. This is a 3-day flighted match play competition open to Full Golf Members 50yrs of age or older consisting of a Championship Gross flight, a Net Flight and a Super Sr. Flight. This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a players potential ability. To figure your equitable stroke control maximum post able score simply add six to the first digit of your handicap for those whose handicaps are 10 or more. i.e. if your handicap is under ten your maximum allowable score is a double bogey. If your handicap is 10, add 6 to the first digit which equals 7, therefore the maximum score that you can post is a 7. If your handicap is your max score is 8, you may post as much as 9, and 40 or higher you may post as high as a 10 on any one hole. You'll receive instruction and coaching, so for all the ladies who want to feel special, this is your night! (4 week session) TUESDAY (switched to Thursday) Stroke of the Week: 1:00pm - 2:00PM - Focus on a particular stroke every week! Drills designed to work on specific strokes so you can have the consistency you've always wanted! (4 week session) Men's FAC (Friday Afternoon Clinic): 2:00-3:30pm. For all you professionals who want to look like tennis professionals, this fun afternoon Drill and Play is for you. Summer Jr Team Tennis Junior Team Tennis is an 8 week program of practices and match play for all kids, ages 8 18 who want to play in a team atmosphere. Teams are comprised of players of similar gender, age and skill. They compete with other teams from the same geographic region in one of four divisions: 10 & Under, 12 & Under, 14 & Under, and 18 & Under. Within these age divisions there are levels for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players. The age division cut-off is the age of the player as of August 11, The format for Team Tennis is 2 singles and 1 doubles. Pricing includes team shirt and USTA registration. 10 FITNESS/PILATES The Pilates 90 Day Challenge: The Challenge is over and here are the results: Overall Winner: Congratulations to Kris Tamillow who lost 10lbs, increased lean muscle mass, decreased body fat and visceral fat. Pilates and Barre Class Combo: We are thrilled to announce that 3 of your regular Pilates Instructors are Barre certified. So look forward to some new exciting Pilates Barre Classes that are made up of extreme isolated movements designed specifically to target your lower abdominals (better known as flabby abs or muffin top) as well as your glutes (commonly known as saddle bags) The combination of Pilates and Barre work is a 55 minute flowing class to music that incorporates strength, dance, core work and balance to leave you feeling tight, stretched and stronger in your core. Look for classes to start mid-summer and join us for a new innovative way to work out and get toned! Fitness update for May 2013: Zumba updates: We would like to thank all of our loyal Zumba Members from the past month for their flexibility and positive attitudes during our instructor health challenges. We had three Zumba instructors all out at the same time with health and/or injuries. Our best wishes are with all of them and we hope they come back soon! In the meantime all of our regularly scheduled Zumba classes are back on track so please join us for our Zumba parties and burn some calories! We are gearing up for the summer and in our effort to maximize the most space at The Athletic Club we will having the following changes starting in June and lasting through the end of July: *Tuesday/Thursday 9:45am Metabolic Mayhem will be moved to the gym. *Tuesday/Thursday 9:45am Yoga will be moved to the upstairs group fitness room. * Friday 9:45am cycle will be moved outside by the beautiful pool and mountain views. Bikes will be kept on the first floor of the Athletic Club to accommodate the transition during these 2 months. 3) Reminder that our fitness schedules may change monthly so be sure to stop by the front desk each month to pick up a new schedule. 10

11 AQUATICS Summer Swim Team Registration started online April 22nd at under the swim team drop down menu, and Flying Horse tab. Developmental Summer Swim Team This is a great option for the newer and younger members of swim team. The participants in this group will join our swim team for a practice on Monday,Thursday and Wednesday mornings when there is not a swim meet. On Tuesday morning, instead of a swim team practice they will have a skills class where specific stroke techniques are focused on every week. Swimmers will still be able to participate in swim meets. It s a great way to join the fun of swim team, but get some special attention on the tricky skills such as butterfly and flip turns! Swim Team Practice Times: Monday-Friday 7:45-9:00 AM (11yrs & older) 9:00-10:00 AM (9-10 yrs old) 9:00 9:45 AM (7-8 yrs old and select 6 & unders) 9:45 10:30 AM (6 & unders/ beginner swim team)** ** Developmental swim team will only practice Monday-Thursday. Most meets will be held on Wednesdays. **Times subject to change depending on number of registrants and their ages. Dates: June 3rd August 4th, State meet August 2nd-4th Swim Meets: These will be USA swim meets. You must sign up for USA swimming in order to swim in these meets. Duel meets will be held on Wednesdays. All-League meets will be held on the weekends. Times will vary and will be determined by the host team. USA swimming registration will be included when you register on the Pikes Peak Athletics Website. Age/Swimming Requirement: At least five years old and able to swim one length (25 yards) of the lap pool with the freestyle and one length of backstroke. If you have any questions regarding Swim Team please contact Anna Heidinger at (719) Swim Lessons Swim lesson program seeks to inspire each student to a lifelong love of swimming. We strive to spread a love for the water, knowing that when students enjoy the learning process, skill and safety develop naturally and stay with them for life. Lessons are offered from toddler to adult and beginner to advanced by our staff who are trained to teach all ages and skill levels, including those with special needs. Lessons start at 6 months with the Water Babies class and the group classes start at 3 years old. All of our group classes maintain a low swimmer to instructor ratio to ensure a level of care and attention that allows each individual swimmer to develop at his or her own pace. The Kids Cabin will remain open until 8:00 pm for the following event: Tuesdays for Men s Pick-up Basketball The Kids Cabin will remain open until 7:30pm for the following events: Tuesday and Thursdays for Karate Class The Kids Cabin will be open until 9:00pm on Wednesday April 17 for the Benzinger family Wine Dinner Date Night is offered Friday & Saturday nights 7:00-9:00pm while you dine in La Fortezza or the Tack Room. As an added benefit, Monthly Pass holders will not pay an additional charge. If you do not have a Monthly Pass, the fee per hour per child is $3.00. **Reservations are required no later than 12:00pm on the day of the reservation so we can staff appropriately. Based on availability we will accept reservations after this time (Please call the Kids Cabin to confirm). If reservations are not received, the Kids Cabin will close at our normal time. As usual children may stay in the Kids Cabin a maximum of 3 hours in a 24 hour period. 13
