2 Pool Memberships & Activities Pull the Plug Party Are you the fastest swimmer? Can you make the biggest splash from the high-board? Are you Fairway s low board belly-flop champ? Do you have the prettiest dive? The party will also feature great food and music provided by D.J. Kirby from Djkirbyradio.com. No children will be allowed in the pool area during lap swim. Fees are the same as daily fees (free to pool members). 3 Fairway Fins Swim Team The Fins is a recreational swim team that competes against other teams in the Johnson County Swim and Dive League. Pre-Competitive and Competitive options are available. Aquatic Programs The season runs from the first practice on May 29 until the All City Meet on July 11. 4 Kid Kamps Fairway Parks and Recreation s wildly popular Kid Kamps are both educational and recreational. They include activities such as arts, crafts, singing, dancing, sports, games and lots of water play. Children will be led in all their activities by staff from the Fairway Parks and Recreation Department at all times. Each child must bring a sack lunch, swimsuit, sunscreen and a towel every day. An afternoon snack will be provided. Instructor Kara Tilden will lead the kids in fun, kid friendly routines aimed at making fitness fun, then everyone will cool off at the pool! This program will allow your child to develop mind and body connection while helping them increase their concentration, attention and focus all while having fun! Perfect for beginners or anyone willing to try a new activity (no prior experience necessary). Participants must bring their own yoga mat. Check-in starts at 8:30am and ends at 10:30am with events running continuously between 9:00am- 11:00am (800m and 1600m run at set times). Pre-registration is required. Each participant can stop by City Hall beginning March 15 to pick up one 18x24 canvas for a $10 refundable cash deposit. Entry pieces should reflect what the artist loves about living in Fairway. Artwork may be displayed at City Hall or in other city locations throughout the year. The winner of each age group (5 & under, 6-12, 13-18) will be given a gift card to a Fairway business at the July 9 City Council meeting. Completed canvases are due back to City Hall by June 1. Gymnastics Open Gym Come try out all of our fun gymnastics equipment which sits on our 900 sq. ft. gymnastic mat. Please note the expanded hours for the summer! Dates: Mar 1 - May 31: Tue, Thu June 5 - Aug 2: Tue, Wed, Thu Time: 10:00am - Noon Location: Fairway City Hall Cost: $1/child (cash only please) Princess Day in Fairway Fairway will have a few "Royal" visitors making an appearance at City Hall on Saturday, April 14. Cinderella, Snow White, Belle and Elsa will give your little princess or prince a fairy tale time they will not soon forget. Children will be able to do various activities with the princesses, including dancing, singing, making royal crafts and, of course, taking a picture with their favorite princesses. Sweet treats and "Princess Punch" will be available for the participants. Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite princess or prince but are not required to. This event is sure to fill up quickly, so register today! 6 Shawnee Indian Mission History & Swim Camp Children will spend each morning playing games, participating in arts & crafts, learning about local living history & the different cultures & gardens at the Mission! They will eat lunch on site, and then be transported with City vehicles to the Fairway Pool to spend the afternoon swimming. Every day will be a different experience with a perfect combination of history and recreation. All participants will be responsible for a sack lunch (daily snacks will be provided). Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. Questions? The overnight lock-in will be held inside the East building and will include structured activities, crafts and lots of free time outside before it gets dark. The night will end with popcorn & movie while kids (and parents!) are snuggled into their sleeping bags on the first floor. Breakfast pastries provided. We will have three separate hunts for children (based on age groups) through the Mission grounds. Katie Petrucci of Echo Music Studio will be teaching throughout the fall! Echo Music classes offer songs and activities that have been passed down through generations. Our activities help children develop a tuneful voice, a rhythmic sense of beat and expressive movement through dance, refines their listening skills, all while bonding with their caretaker as we develop their musical abilities and holistic growth. Classes are designed for infant through pre-k children. 7 Living History Saturdays Did you know that we have a living history barn and cabin just south of our East building? Come see the cabin open and filled with living history from the 1840s. Reenactors will be in period dress, children can make and take a different history craft or participate in a new activity each month, and watch how life used to be at the Mission. Dates: Second Saturday of each month (Apr-Sept) Time: 10am-3pm Cost: FREE Shawnee Indian Mission Haunted History Tour Join professional paranormal investigators from Supernatural Inc. as they search for paranormal activity in three of the oldest buildings in the State of Kansas. You will be given a walking tour to learn the history of the buildings and some of the haunting encounters others have experienced there. Participants will learn about investigative equipment that you will be allowed to use when exploring your own haunting encounter. One night, on a tip, The Mission was raided for illegal bootlegging of alcohol. At the event, you can find out more about The Mission s speakeasy past, along prohibition food & drink. Elementary Social Music Group Enhancing social connectedness through music This evidence-based program offers an opportunity for children to connect with peers through musical play, while also addressing self-regulation, academics and social skills. This group is designed for children with a wide variety of needs, which may include children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, Anxiety, ADHD, and more. Parents will have the opportunity to give input on group goals based on the needs of their child! Activities will include singing, music listening, group games, reading, dancing/movement, chants, instrument-play, and more. This group is led by a Board-Certified Music Therapist, trained in adapting music to fit the needs of each child! 8 Events & Programs Intuitive Painting Classes Explore the beautiful colors of the landscape around us and the beauty of the season, wildlife, birds, and trees. In this art class, learn about acrylic paints, contrasting colors and using texture in paints. We will share our paintings and expand our appreciation of the colors and magic of the landscape around us. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Essential Oil Workshops Would you like to learn more about essential oils and how to use them? Join Cara Middleton for sessions learning how and where essential oils can help with your daily life. All sessions will allow for each person to make and take a sample of products. Each class is $10. Additional products will be available to purchase and make at sessions. 9 Adult Programs Chair Yoga Chair Yoga is designed to provide almost anyone the opportunity to be involved in a gentle form of Yoga. It focuses on the joints and muscles to increase flexibility, strength, balance and coordination. This style is adaptable through the use of krama so each participant can go to their own edge. Class includes flow sequences, core work, standing poses, balance poses and attempts at pretzeling. A playful attitude is encouraged. Bring your mat! Chris Lamb instructs. The 6:45pm session is for experienced players that would like to play pickup matches against each other. Each class will blend asana, breath work & meditation against the backdrop of The City of Trees. 11 Large Shelter Rental Reserve the Large Shelter at Peterson Park on-line anytime! The Large Shelter is open for first come, first serve use unless reserved. The Small Shelter is always open first come, first serve. Temporary alcohol beverage permits are available.
