2 A note to Competitors Today, we are driving for something so much bigger than blue ribbons. Today, we are driving for our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives and friends. Open Children (under 12) Red Hat Society Please Note: For safety and traffic reasons, schooling of horses is prohibited in either of the show arenas (Ring 1 or Ring 2) prior to the start of the first classes at 9:00 am. No exceptions! Schooling will be permitted in designated areas only. Ring 1 will be available after the morning show session has ended, for schooling during the lunch break Ring 1 will be used primarily as a staging area for competitors showing in the next class in Ring 2 if enries warrante reopening Rensmanship and Cross Country in the afternoon. 7 RING 2 Arena Individual Reinsmanship Approx 9:15-12: 30 pm ***will reopen if entries warrant 1:15pm Horses 9:15-10:15 Ponies 10:15-11:15 VSE s 11:15-12:15 Drivers - please proceed to Cross Country following Reinsmanship Test. 3 The BCHP Driving for the Cure is run generally in accordance with the rules and regulations of the American Driving Society. A copy of the rules is available to members on-line at CLASS SPECIFICATIONS Working A pleasure driving class in which entries are judged primarily on the suitability of the horse to provide a pleasant drive. To be shown both ways of the arena at a walk, slow trot, working trot, and strong trot. To stand quietly, both on the rail and lined up, and to rein back. All entries chosen for a workout may be worked at any gait requested by the judge, and may be asked to execute a figure eight. To be judged: 70% on performance, manners, and way of going; 20% on condition and fit of harness and vehicle; 10% on neatness of attire. Reinsmanship A pleasure driving class in which entries are judged primarily on the ability and the skill of the driver. Drivers will show individually and execute a test of reinsmanship supplied by show anagement. Required elements: walk, slow trot, working trot, strong trot, halt (stnad quietly and rein back. Either the one- or two-handed method of driving is acceptable, with either method allowing a comfortable, steady, and consistent feel with the horse s mouth. Drivers should not be penalized or rewarded for using one general method or another. To be judged on the driver s skill, use of aids, quality of transitions, performance. The elements will be evaluated 10 point each by the judge with an additional 10 points for overall impression. Cross Country To test the driver on their skill in negotiating a Cross Country.course of approx 1.5 k. Driven on grass and graveled tracks, with some natural and/or artificial obstacles. Obstacles will be clearly numbered and shall be driven in order. NO CANTERING ALLOWED. Drivers will not be given a prescribed speed or time (much like a hunter pace) but are to drive the course at a pleasure pace and must try to come to the finish line as closely as possible to the optimum time. Optimum time will not be given until end of scoring. A mandatory walk section will be marked with signs mandatory walk and resume trot. Breaks of pace in the walk by any horse in the turnout will be penalized by 10 penalties per 5 paces. 1 penalty is assessed for each second too early or too late. To be judged on how close the driver s time comes to the ideal time, with penalties for breaks of pace or incorrectly driven obstacles. In the event of a tie, the winner shall be determined by selecting the horse most suitable to provide a pleasant drive. Spares are not necessary Reasons for Elimination: Racing or endangering another vehicle or spectator. Failure to cross the start line within 1 minute of signal. Starting before signal. Failure to drive the prescribed course. Failure to correctly drive each obstacle on course. Failure to cross the finish line. Circling, driving serpentines, and walking and stopping to average time. Outside assistance (other than navigator/groom indicating the route). Breakage of harness or vehicle. Show Officials The following have been invited to judge and officiate. The Committee reserves the right to change or add to these names, should it be necessary. PRE-ENTRY FEES: $10.00 per class. Closing date is June (Entries must be postmarked no later than June ) 2.) POST-ENTRY FEES: $15.00 per class. Post-entry fees are applicable for all entries received after June * No class entry fee required for competitors that have sold 10 or more tickets to this event. call for details! 3.) Office fee of $10.00 per entry (non member BCHP only) 4.) A separate entry is required for each horse / driver / vehicle combination. 5.) Competitors are asked to use the BCHP Entry Form in this Prize List. 6.) No faxed entries. No telephone or entries accepted. 7.) Negative Coggins required, current within 12 months of the date of the show. Include a copy with your pre-entry form. 8.) Please make all checks payable to the Bucks County Horse Park or BCHP. Refund Policy 1.) Full refund less $10.00 Office Fee for refund requests submitted before the closing date. 2.) NO REFUNDS on entry fees and stall fees submitted AFTER June 15, except with vet s certificate of disability. Please mail vet certificate and request for refund, or bring it to the show office prior to 8:00 am on the day of the show. 3.) Forfeit on all entries made the day of the show and not exhibited. General Participation 1.) Numbers are assigned on a turnout basis (i.e. animal, vehicle, and driver). When any of these components change, it is considered a different turnout requiring a different number. Always display the correct number for your turnout. Competitors wearing the incorrect number for that turnout may be eliminated. 2.) Ring classes take precedence over cross country classes. 3.) Cantering is prohibited in all classes. 4.) Please bring and use muck buckets in the trailer parking area. 6 3
4 Tentative Time Schedule Show Secretary opens at 7:30 am. Classes will start promptly at 9:00 am. Entries will proceed to Cross Country after completing their individual reinsmanship tests. Drive for a Cure Picnic Lunch & Hat Contest The pavillion will open for a tea lunch 11pm - 2 pm Hat Contest 1:00 pm Awards Six ribbons in all classes. Champion & Reserve ribbon each division. Note* $5.00 postage and handling fee is applicable if ribbons are to be mailed. Division classes: Working, Reinsmanship, Cross Country Pace for Pink Ribbon Points: 1st=7 pts., 2nd=5 pts., 3rd=4 pts., 4th=3 pts., 5th=2 pts., 6th=1 pt. Class Size Three entries constitute a class. In the event there are two or fewer entries per class, the show committee reserves the right to combine or cancel any class. In the event there is one entry in a Division, a Championship will not be awarded. Horse Eligibility 1.) Management has divided divisions to accommodate different animals: a.) Any animal 39 and under will show in the Very Small Equine (VSE) Divisions. b.) Animals 14.2 and under will show in the Pony Divisions, with the exception of registered Arabians, Morgans, Saddlebreds, and Quarter Horses which may show in the Horse Divisions at the owner s discretion, but may not cross enter. c.) Animals over 14.2 hands will show in the Horse Division. d.) Draft Horse breeds (i.e. Clydesdales, Belgians, Percherons, Shires, etc.) or any animal 1500 lbs. or over may be shown in the Horse Divisions if shown in pleasure harness. 2.) Novice Whips and Junior Whips may not drive stallions. 3.) The minimum age for a horse to be allowed to compete is three years.. 4.) All animals must be serviceably sound -specifically must not show evidence of lameness, broken wind, or impared vision in both eyes. Driver Eligibility ***Novice Whip Divisions ***If class size warrants only - see note on page 7 Open to whips who have not won more than three first place ribbons in ADS recognized and/or USEF sanctioned driving competitions. Novice Whips may not crossenter into any other divisions at this show. Novice Whips may not drive stallions. Turnout for Horses, Ponies, and VSEs Braiding of mane is optional. Any mane, tail or fetlock trimming may conform to breed standards. Tails are not braided. Attire & Appointments for Driver & Passengers Dress for the driver and passenger(s) should conform to the type of turnout (i.e. Formal, Park, Country, Sporting). Period costumes are prohibited. Hard hats or helmets are acceptable (and encouraged) in all classes, and will not be penalized. Protective head gear is strongly encouraged for the Pleasure Marathon Pace. Protective head gear is required for drivers or passengers under the age of 18 in all classes. Driving aprons or lap robes, hats, gloves, and driving whips are required in all classes. Pink is encouraged, - however not required! Grooms & Passengers In the event of an emergency, immediately notify the closest BCHP official or volunteer. Grooms must be with the turnout and available to assist at all times, even outside the Drivers should remain in control of their horse while hitched and move to a safe ring, warming up, etc. Grooms are defined as someone, who in the opinion of show area until the event resumes. Under no circumstances is a driver to hand a hitched management, is capable of rendering assistance in the event of difficulty. Two grooms are required for four-in-hands and unicorns; one groom is required for pairs and tan- horse over to a volunteer or spectator. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. 4 5 dems; a groom is optional for a single turnout..a groom is required for all juniors. Exception: Juniors over the age of 14 in the VSE division only. All passengers/ grooms must have a signed waiver on file in the Secretary s office. Additional copies may be obtained from the Show Secretary. Vehicle & Wheel Requirements Wire-wheeled vehicles (pneumatic tires) are permitted in the Novice Whip Divisions, Open Single VSE Division, and Junior Whip classes only. Any vehicle deemed unsafe by Show Management, TD, or Judge will not be permitted to compete. Forecarts stirrup-type carts chariots and sulkies are not permitted. Any turnout deemed unsafe by Show Managment will not be permitted to compete. Harness Requirements All entries must be shown in pleasure carriage harness. Trace chains are prohibited. Flash nosebands are strongly discouraged in pleasure driving classes. Sidechecks are optional. Breeching is required. Martingales and overchecks are prohibited. Bridles Bridles must be adjusted to fit snugly to prevent catching on a vehicle or other pieces of harness. A throatlatch, and a noseband or cavesson are mandatory. Removing the bridle or detaching the reins from the bit before unhitching the horse from the vehicle, anywhere on the showgrounds, will result in instant elimination. Courses Cross Country maps and tentative time schedules will be posted at the Secretary s office and included in each competitor s packet. Management reserves the right to modify or change the Cross Country course depending on weather and ground conditions. The Cross Country course will be well-marked and easiily driven blind, but it is recommended that competitors inspect the course and the obstacles and evaluate them in relation to their own skill level, and the skill level of their animal(s). The course is open for inspection on Sunday, June 21 from 6:30 am to 9:00. Dogs Dogs on the showgrounds must be kept on leashes at all times. There will be a $25.00 fine for each dog caught running loose by Show Management! Exception: Dogs accomanying drivers in their vehicles may not be tied to the vehicle in any way but must be under control at all times. Schooling and Safety Schooling areas will be clearly marked. There will be no schooling of horses over the Cross Country course,or any individual obstacle. No schooling of horses in either show arena prior to the start of classes at 9:00 am. Show Management or Judge may excuse from the ring any unsafe vehicle harness or animal.. Exhibitors may be asked to leave the grounds for un-sportsman-like conduct, failure to control and animal or any abuse of an animal. * Due to the number of spectators expected, this event is not suitable for very green horses /drivers. Important Note* Driver or groom must be seated in vehicle and in full control of reins while horse is hitched anywhere on horse park grounds. Long-lining a horse while hitched is prohibited.
5 Bucks County Horse Park DISCLAIMER To be signed by every competition participant, including each person who rides with a driver on a carriage not only during the actual competition, but including any time from arrival at the competition to departure. I understand that neither the Bucks County Horse Park ( BCHP ) and its officers, the Driving Event Competition ( Competition ), Competition judges, officials or organizing committee nor the property owners accept any responsibility for accidents, damage, injury, or illness to the horses, owners, riders, drivers, grooms, passengers, attendants, spectators, or any other person or property in connection with this competition. I hereby expressly agree for myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents: (1) to be bound by the rules and by-laws of the BCHP and any local rules of this competition; (2) that every horse, driver, attendant, groom and/or passenger is eligible as entered; and (3) and to accept as final any decision of the competition officials on any question arising under the BCHP rules and bylaws or any local rules of the competition, and agree to hold the BCHP, its officers, directors, employees and agents, and competition judges, officials and organizing committee, harmless for any action taken. I am fully aware that horse sports, including driving, and this competition involve inherent dangerous risk of serious injury or death and by participating I do so voluntarily and expressly assume any and all risks of injury or loss, and I agree to indemnify and hold the BCHP, its officers, directors, employees and agents, and competition judges, officials and organizing committee, harmless and against all claims including any injury or loss suffered during or in conjunction with the Competition, whether or not such claim, injury or loss resulted, either directly or indirectly, from the negligent acts or omissions of the BCHP, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers and agents, or competition judges, officials and organizing committee.
