I always seem to wait until the last minute. It s going to be a busy weekend coming up for us all. Firstly our awards night on Friday. I know from Lynn that we have getting towards a full house. I m sure if you still want to come we could find a corner to fit you in but you ll need to be quick. Kez has kindly offered to lead off the dancing, whilst Jeff is busy getting his photo display sorted. Don t forget we always choose the Splatt award on the night. It s always a good night and this year looks to keep that theme going. I ll be the one choosing which table gets to eat first so anyone who feels like a little bribery.. That gives you the next day (Sat) to recover, you know, Christmas shopping, putting up the decorations, usual restful things before we go into our last rally of the year. I know that Sarah and Kez have a full morning of riding activities before an extended lunch and a more casual afternoon. I know Anne Maree has a revised menu going for lunch. Last weekend was the Zone eliminations. A day that dawned hot and just kept on going. We, as a club were well represented though I haven t got any results from the day. I chickened out of the heat (I still think of snowing at Christmas to be a pleasant warm day) and left it to the stalwarts (such as Kez) to stay the course. I must admit by the middle of the day it was very reminiscent of Christmas you could smell the roasting meat. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank both Sarah and Kez for the work they have done. I have also have the advantage of listening to the ideas (hopefully to become plans) that they have for the future. If only half of them come to fruition we are in for some really exciting times. During the next month or so, certainly before the Feb rally I will send everyone a statement of their hours. Please make sure you have your hours up to date by the end of December rally as we will close off and not accept retrospective hours after that date. May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday. Regards Regards Chris

2 D C REPORT Ho Ho Ho!! Welcome to the December Rally! Christmas Anthem - wear something to let us know it s Christmas Another year has come to an end and what a year it has been. You should all be proud of being CMPC members, with the dedication you have all shown throughout the year. I have been proud to have been on the committee & being part of making this club a great club. Lots of members have been out their competing (some competing for the first time) representing our club in such a positive way. Well done. Congratulations to all the riders who competed at Zone Qualifiers last Sunday for Dressage & Show Jumping, those who qualified were Bianca Johnson in C Grade SJ, Emma Alexander in Grade 1 Dressage & Melody Wooding in Grade 3 Dressage, Charity came 2nd in Grade 4 Dressage, Well Done to all those who represented us for CMPC. The bond you make with your horse is always a very special connection. When you walk into their paddock and call your horse, their head turns in your direction and starts coming towards you, this reaction makes your heart melt & you just want to love them more. Summer break is the best time ever for all you riders to spend time working as one and to enjoy your riding. All us parents wish we could do the same. This Rally Kezz & I hope you have an enjoyable day to finish the year off. Fancy Dress at lunchtime followed by games on our own two legs. There is still lots of competitions going on over the break, so goodluck to all those out competing. A Gear Check Training Day by Barwoon Zone has been set for Sunday 31st January, 2015 at Elcho Park for those interested, more information will be ed out closer to the date, so keep an eye out for the . Set up pack up as per that months lesson plan in Hoofprints (if unsure, please see President, DC or CI) Set up at 9.00 am and someone will need to attach the jump trailer to their car. Pack up at conclusion of day usually about 3.30pm This count towards your compulsory work hours

4 OUR HELPFUL VET INFORMATION SPOT Wow it s that time of year again, Christmas brings us much love, laughter and happiness. However, please don t forget the dangers that we need to be prepared for.fire. Last week I spoke at Horseland, Geelong along with a CFA representative. It was a very informative evening and I would like to thank the CFA and Horseland for putting together these educational sessions. I thought a timely reminder about what to do in a fire is essential. Develop a fire plan- whether your horses are at home or located on an agistment property you must plan and prepare for their safety. On Severe, Extreme or Code Red fire danger days move your horses to a safer paddock or area. Permently identify your horses with a microchip and register with either Petsafe or Central Animal Records. If a fire is immanent and evacuation is not possible remove all rugs and head collars from your horse, open all internal gates, place your horse in a well grazed large paddock or a sand arena, turn off electric fences, do not lock your horses in a stable or yard, close your front gate, DO NOT let your horses out on the road as this poses extreme danger for traffic. Remember, a horses natural instinct is to run from danger to survive. If you are evacuating your horses please make sure you have a safe exit route and it will fit a car towing a float or a horse truck and ensure your horse will get on transport quickly. Get together with friends or club members to arrange a group strategy. Know your evacuation points e.g. showgrounds, sale yards, race track or pony club grounds. If your horse sustains a burn ring your Vet immediately. Whilst you are waiting cool the area down. You can sponge cool water over the area (limit the amount of water used at it can cause burnt tissue to swell). Ideally, cool the burnt area with saline or a weak chlorhexidine solution. Check your horse s hooves, if their soles are burnt place in a bucket of cold water. Offer water to drink, with hold feed until the Vet has assessed the airway for smoke inhalation damage, keep in a shaded cool area and separate from other horses. Any rider leaving early for the day please inform DC Sarah Kavanagh or Kez & your instructor and then sign out at the office.
