2 PRESIDENT S REPORT Hi Members & Families We are at that time of the year again. We need to give notice that the AGM will be during April rally Please consider whether you can offer the time to sit on the committee and help steer the club into the future. Its not easy and certainly takes up quite a bit of time but let me assure you its well worth it when you see the faces on rally day. Nominations signed and accepted by the nominee need to be received by 17th March. Please send/give them to Lynn Evans who has kindly offered to host the AGM. By now you should have received your statement of hours. These are collated up to the end of December and are issued as a guide to where you are in relation to the membership requirements. Anything entered to the book since then will be taken into account by year end. If you think your statement is incorrect please make sure you have entered all your worked hours to the hours book, this is our only record and all we have to go on. As you will have seen from the s this month is a mini ODE in preparation for our comp next month. This is by way of being a trial run for all of you that haven t competed before to show you there is nothing to worry about and if you are unsure of what you will need to do this will explain it all. For those of you who are old hands at this competition lark, it s all good practice. This is a fun day, don t take it too seriously, enjoy it and learn from the experience. To align things and make it a whole lot simpler we are closing the cross country course on 29th March, the same day as WARC are closing. It makes policing very much easier. This means that we won t have the use of cross country for the April rally. Regards to all See you all Sunday CHRIS

Pack up at conclusion of day usually about 3.30 pm This count towards your compulsory work hours

4 OUR HELPFUL VET INFORMATION SPOT Dr Emma s Handy Horse Hints I have seen plenty of colic in the last few weeks so thought this we be a good topic for discussion. Colic really just means a belly ache but as a veterinarian we need to try and work out why and what is causing the pain. As horse owners there are some very important facts to remember to try and reduce the incidence in your horses Clean fresh water Good quality feed Good quality hay Regular worming Annual dental treatments ( essential to help digest feed and reduce the risk of impaction) Psyllium husks feed the first 5 days of each month to encourage sand and dirt to flow through the intestinal tract The cause of colic in its mild form is often unknown ( a bit like when you and I get a belly ache and we take some pandadol and it goes away). However, the common known causes are constipation, sand/dirt ingestion, worms, sudden change in diet, contaminated feed and water and stress. The more severe cases can be caused by peritonitis, bowel displacement and bowel torsion. If your horse has colic please ring your veterinarian immediately. Whilst waiting for your vet to arrive you can take your horses heart rate, temperature, listen for gut sounds, give your horse no feed, walk your horse and monitor for any passing of manure and collect it for the vet to examine. Colic is common in horses but can be life threatening, so always remember excellent management practices will help in preventing it. Groups may change month to month and if your name is not on the list that means that we have not received a reply from you and on rally day you will be put into a group that has room for you PLEASE NOTE WHICH ARENA YOUR LESSON IS IN AND BE PROMPT TO START PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY FOR MUSTER AT 9.30 AM AND GEAR CHECK AT AM GEAR CHECK - Immediately after Muster go and saddle up and return to your Gear Check area with your parent or guardian. Gear Check Group Leaders in high visability vests will assist to run groups through Gear Check. Please be prompt for Gear Check as instructors will begin teaching at am Sharp. No Rider can start with their group until their Gear Check is complete, this includes a signature from your parent or Guardian. A parent MUST be in attendance when you are getting gear check please. Any rider leaving early for the day please inform DC Sarah Kavanagh or Kez & your instructor and then sign out at the office. GRADINGS MUST BE BOOKED IN BY ING SARAH KAVANAGH NO LATER THAN TWENTY ONE DAYS PRIOR TO RALLY, FILL OUT A GRADING SHEET WHICH CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM OUR WEB SITE and BRING COMPLETED FORM ALONG TO NEXT RALLY OR SCAN AND SEND WITH BOOKING. 6 event news and results JUNIOR COMMITTEE REPORT CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CMPC RIDERS & BARWON ZONE FOR THE FANTASTIC RESULTS AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AT WONTHAGGI Last Weekend GRADE 1 DRESSAGE As an Individual Rider Event, Emma Placed 2nd after an amazing dressage test only 1 point behind the Winner. FANTASTIC EFFORT - EMMA ALEXANDER!!! GRADE 3 DRESSAGE As a Team Event - Melody Wooding along with Lucy Peters from Leighdale PC and Scarlett Cohalan from Ballarat PC took 1st Place in Grade 3 MELODY WOODING - great job!!! HAVE A GREAT DAY AT RALLY THIS SUNDAY AT OUR MINI ONE DAY EVENT / HORSE TRIALS.
