Society Membership The Society is a not for profit membership-based organisation that seeks to promote the role of the primary industries. Annual Membership runs from 1 April to 31 March each year. The benefits of membership, which centre on the Society s Annual Show, are detailed below. MEMBERSHIP ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION SHOW ADMISSION TICKETS $75.00 (incl.) 6 entry tickets The above provides a 33% saving on public Show admission prices. Contact the HB A&P Society Office if you wish to become a member of the Society - or you may visit our website for an application form. 4

5 Equestrian Schedule of Classes Entries close Friday 16 September 2016 Enter online at All entry monies are to be paid and will be banked on Friday 30 September Late entries will be accepted in all Showing, Showjumping & Show Hunter classes until 12 noon on Tuesday 18 October 2016, these will incur a 50% additional charge. Stabling will not be guaranteed. Entries received after the closing date will not be catalogued. The Committee reserves the right to amalgamate classes where insufficient entries are received. RAS EQUESTRIAN RULES The RAS Judges & Competitors Rulebook (see sets out all the conditions that apply to the classes and sections offered, each Equestrian Breed that is affiliated to the RAS offer their own standard schedule of classes and any additional rules that apply to showing their particular breed. SHOW LEVIES AND FEES A Judges and Grounds Levy of $15.50 applies per horse/pony. Discounts will be offered for 4+ horses - $7 per horse applies for the 5 th horse ALL NON COMPETING DOGS ARE BANNED FROM THE HAWKE'S BAY SHOWGROUNDS TICKETS AND PARKING PASSES Show tickets, wristbands and parking passes will be posted once entries close. Gate Entry - All Competitors will be supplied with Wristbands. Wristbands are to be worn for the duration of the Show. Gate entry tickets will not be supplied to Horse Competitors. Competitors with between 1 or 2 animals receive 2 Wristbands, 3 and over will receive 3 Wristbands. Extra Wristbands will be supplied at the discretion of the Show Office. Additional Entry Tickets may be pre purchased at a reduced rate of $12 per Adult and $6 per child. These tickets are available only through the Show office and only prior to the Show. The Cash Entry gate closest to the Horse area is Gate 5. The Horse Gate (7/8) will only accept Wristbands and Members Tickets for entry. ROYAL SHOW CATALOGUE We will not be posting catalogues unless requested, $3 postage fee applies for any catalogues requiring postage. See your entry form for details. You will be able to collect your Catalogues from the Horse office from Monday 17 October or when you arrive at the Show. An electronic version will be available on our website mid October. PRIZE MONEY All prize money will be paid out after the show into a nominated bank account, please enter details on the entry form. This will be done (subject to any queries) within 30 days of the final show day. Prize Money - in events where there is less than four competitors only 1st and 2nd prize money will be awarded, 3rd placing will receive a ribbon only. ENTRY CONDITIONS Run under the Rules and Regulations of the RAS and/or local conditions designated below. Each exhibitor must supervise and control their animals at all times and shall be liable for any hazards created or accident, illness or damage caused by the action of themselves or their animals at the Showgrounds. By entering this Show, exhibitors must comply with the appropriate animal Legislation the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 (HWSA) and any amendments thereafter. 5

6 The entry closing date will be enforced. Entries received after 16 September will be subject to a late entry fee and will not be listed in the catalogue. Entry in the Show entitles the Hawke s Bay A&P Society to publish an Exhibitors name in results and distribute with Exhibitor Lists. The use of Prefixes on Horses and Ponies in the Showing Classes at A&P Shows be those of the Breeder. The Society reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry without adducing any reason for doing so. Exhibitors must check their entry form carefully. A confirmation of entries will be sent, it is the competitors responsibility to check the details are correct. Once entries are catalogued, changes can be made but will not be reflected in the Catalogue. Starting Times are approximate only, but will be adhered to as closely as possible. Although it is provided that horses may compete in more than one class, any or all of such classes may be judged simultaneously at the convenience of the Judges or Stewards. In all such cases exhibitors having an exhibit entered in more than one class must elect in which class they compete. ENTRIES DURING THE SHOW Competitors will be able to place additional entries during the course of the Show for the following day s events. These entries can be made at the Horse office before 5pm the night prior to the competition. The office will then process alterations and provide updated sheets for the next day s competition. This will apply only to animals that are already entered/competing at the Show. These additional entries will carry a 50% surcharge on the entry fee, which must be paid at the time the additional entry is made. There will be no exception or variance to the detail above. Substitution - May be permitted provided the horse or pony for which another entry is substituted takes no further part at this Show. The Substitution can only be made into the same class as the original entry and be owned by the same person. Veterinarian's certificates are not required. The substitution must be made to the Secretary at the Horse Office by 5pm prior to the day of competition. Catalogue Back Numbers will be available at the Horse Office from 1pm on Tuesday, 18 October Numbers are to be returned to the same office at the end of competition. Failure to do so will result in a charge of $10 per number. SCRATCHING Refund of entry fees will only be considered if scratching are made in writing officially with the Hawke s Bay A&P Society Secretary until Monday 17 October 2016 from then on to the Secretary at the Horse Office by 5pm prior to the day of Competition. Height Class Changes (Show Jumping) - Competitors may transfer an entry to a different Height Class, under the following conditions: 1. Intended changes must be notified to the Horse Office by 5pm on the day prior to the event, taking place. Fees; Horse/Pony $3 per transfer. 2. Transferred entries will be the first to compete in the newly selected Classes. ACCOMMODATION AND STABLING Horse Stables/Covered Yards - A charge of $30.00 (3 nights) Pony Stables - A charge of $30.00 (3 nights) Open Yards $18.00 (3 nights) All stables/covered yards and open yards are allocated on a first in first served basis. We do fill up so please ensure you get your entries in early. 6

7 Please clearly state on the entry form if you require a Pony stable, open yard or a stable for a Horse, if this is not stated you may end up with a Pony Stable. Once Stabling is allocated changes will not be permitted. Please indicate on your entry form if you have a Stallion. We have Stallion boxes available. No temporary yards are permitted, including taped areas at the Truck or Float. Application and payment for these facilities must be included with entry fees. Should your application for covered yards or open yards be unsuccessful due to lack of space, refunds will be sent with your acknowledgement. Contact for stabling queries: Maria Gourlie Camping on the Showgrounds Caravan sites with power are available during the Show at $35 per powered site. Non power sites, are available during the Show at $25 per site. Please apply with your entry form. All vehicles issued with a Horse Camping pass will enter the Horse Vehicle parking area by the gate in Elwood Road. No vehicle will be admitted from this area to the area around the horse stalls. All electrical cords plugged into the Hawke s Bay Showgrounds power boxes are required to be certified and have a visible tag showing. Cords will be checked and any that do not show certification tags will be removed. Please note that on Friday 21 October 2016 access after 7am is only from the Otene Road end of Elwood Road not from Karamu Road where a roadblock is in force. HORSES MUST BE WALKED THROUGH ALL SECURITY GATES. RAS HEIGHT CERTIFICATE A current RAS issued Annual or Life Height Certificate must be carried at all times at this show. HEIGHT CERTIFICATES AND NOVICE STATUS CARDS MUST BE CARRIED AT ALL TIMES AND PRESENTED ON DEMAND OTHERWISE AN EXHIBITOR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO START. Microchips do not exempt riders from carrying a height certificate. Exhibitors in any class where a Height certificate is required can be asked to show this certificate at any time. They may not leave the ring to obtain a certificate and will forfeit awards if certificate is not shown. Measuring rules - The Measuring Rules of the RAS apply at this Show. Competitors are advised that all times for measuring days are set prior to the time entries close for the Show. No measuring will be carried out between the closing of entries and the Show. BEHAVIOUR & CONDUCT Yellow Card - This Show/Event supports the RAS Yellow Card system. A Yellow Card will be issued, in cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals or inappropriate behaviour as per the RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules & Regulations/Bylaws including the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered Measuring Stand and their grounds and their duly appointed delegates may deliver to the person responsible a Yellow Warning Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the show) which suspends any penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of the Yellow Card system is available to view on the RAS website HATS AND SAFETY HELMETS A hard hat is generally described as a hunting cap, a bowler, protective headwear or a safety helmet. Wearing a hard hat is compulsory for anyone competing on, working in or schooling or riding for any other reason a horse at an A&P Show or in any area considered to be for whatever reason a part of the Showgrounds. All riders 16 and under must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area collecting rings or anywhere else within the Showgrounds. 7

8 Motorbikes are permitted inside the security fence in the stables area only and may only be ridden by licensed drivers with helmets. A strict speed limit of 10km/h applies. FORBIDDEN SUBSTANCES The Rules of the Royal A&P Society New Zealand in regard to Forbidden Substances apply. Any substance capable of affecting the speed, stamina, courage or conduct of a horse, pony, donkey or mule by its action upon the central or peripheral nervous system or the cardio-vascular respiratory, alimentary, digestive, muscoskeletal or urogenital systems. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the Hawke s Bay Show and that testing of all animals is at the person responsible s risk. RAS RESOLUTION PROCESS The full process can be found on the RAS website The principle behind the process is to deal with the matter as it comes to hand and in most cases it should be dealt with directly by the Hawke s Bay Show management. If the matter is in regards to an RAS official, the Show may request the assistance of RAS Head Office as to how to deal with this in an appropriate manner. STALLIONS and COLTS a. All stallions and colts (with the exception of Miniature horses and foals) must be shown in a bit. b. A Steward will order any stallion/colt considered out of control or to be causing undue disquiet to other horses from the ring without recourse from the stallion/colt s owner/exhibitor/competitor. c. It is compulsory for all stallions and colts, except foals, to wear two (2) official S identification badges, one attached to each side of their bridle, at all Shows/Events at all times. The rider and handler must also wear two RAS official (2) armbands (one on each arm) when in the ring. S badges to be purchased from RAS Head Office or ESNZ; armbands from RAS Head Office. d. Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts must wear an approved Hi-vis vest at Shows/Events when outside the showing ring. Vests can be purchased from RAS Head Office. AGE OF RIDERS & HANDLERS a. Rider/Handler s age and eligibility is determined as per the 1 August i.e. Riders/handlers who are of age for any division/section on the 1 August complete the show year/ season in that division/section. Proof of age may be required and should be on hand. b. Lead Rein classes are restricted to riders under eight (8) years of age with a minimum age of four (4) years, who are not competing in any other sections at any A&P Show/Event. To be led by an attendant fourteen (14) years of age or over. c. First Ridden classes are restricted to riders under ten (10) years of age, who are not competing in any other sections at any A&P Show/Event. d. Novice pony exhibits (except Novice Pony Stallions) may be ridden by a rider of any age. e. Novice pony stallions must be led or ridden by a rider fourteen (14) years and over. f. Open pony exhibits must be ridden by riders under seventeen (17) years of age. g. Open pony stallions must be ridden by a rider fourteen (14), or fifteen (15), or sixteen (16) years of age, led handlers must be fourteen (14) years and over. h. Riders in horse rings (exhibits over 148cm) must be twelve (12) years and over. i. Stallions over 148cm must be led or ridden by a rider seventeen (17) years of age or older. AGE OF RIDDEN EXHIBITS Exhibits under three (3) years of age are not permitted in any ridden or driven (harness) class no matter what the rules of any affiliated Breed Society or Kindred Society may prescribe. DECO CITY MOTOR LODGE GRAND PARADE The Deco City Grand Parade is scheduled for Friday 21 October at 1.15pm in the Main Arenas. All competitors are invited to take part, and are asked to meet in the warm up Arena next to the Horse Office at 1pm. The Deco City Grand Parade should take approximately 45mins. The Parade will be a wonderful celebration of the 2016 Royal A&P Show. COMBINING CLASSES The Hawke s Bay A&P Society reserves the right to combine classes where there are insufficient entries. All competitors entered into classes which will be combined will be notified as soon as possible. 8

9 ESNZ LEVIES All riders, horses and ponies must compete with the appropriate ESNZ membership. All classes run under ESNZ rules current at the time of the Show. All horses must pay: $5 Jumping Levy ESNZ Jumping/Show Hunter Registered Horses or $20 / $10 Casual Jumping Levy Horses not registered for ESNZ Jumping/Show Hunter. This levy is $20 for the first day and $10 for subsequent days at the same show (includes the $5 Jumping levy). Horse cannot compete over 1.20m and ponies over 1.10m on the Casual Jumping Levy. All riders must be full members of ESNZ and can t compete under community membership. Horses and Ponies may compete in Show Hunter under the casual Levy system, but will not be awarded ANY HOY qualifying points. Please pay your ESNZ levies with your entries fees, please note this on your entry form. 11 Pairs Classes 2016 reintroduces fun classes for pairs of horses and ponies. Salt and Pepper PR have kindly donated sashes and rosettes. Classes will be judged on matching height, colour and paces. RAS Livamol Thoroughbred Series Class Class 1270 RAS Livamol Thoroughbred Series Class To be held in the Red Ring after the completion of the Best Pair of Horses on Thursday afternoon Ridden TB Show Horse over 148cm Judging: 80% Conformation and 20% Paces & Manners Judges will assess each horse individually with saddles removed after they have been assessed ridden. Horses to show true TB Qualities. Horses to show a good walk as well as gallop (room permitting). Each competitor will register their Registered Thoroughbred with RAS Head office (no fee required, form on the RAS website). Each RAS Registered Thoroughbred, once accepted by RAS Head Office, will receive a registration number and be entered into the RAS Livamol Thoroughbred Series. Placings 1 st to 4 th will accumulate points that will result in an overall Series winner. Registered Thoroughbreds in this Series will qualify for the Registered Thoroughbred class at Horse of the Year

The draw will be ed to all riders after 10th October In addition to the entry fee per class please add an administration levy of $25 per RIDER. This levy is non-refundable if you scratch. The administration levy covers your Dressage ground levy, St Johns Ambulance, Catalogue, Ribbons, administration and judge s costs. Trophies for this Section Bayard Trophy - Donated by the late Mrs Helen Holden, will be awarded to the graded Horse gaining the highest percentage on the day. 48 Showjumping Hawke's Bay is a Premier Show. TIME OF EVENTS Times stated in the Schedule for Jumping Competitions are approximate only, and will be adjusted after entries close according to entries received. The Hawke s Bay Show reserves the right to start an event before the catalogue time. Overlap - Consideration shall be shown to competitors who are entered in competition that may overlap. Please see the Senior Steward concerned but classes will not be delayed. In Arena 1, Competitors must jump in the order as drawn and printed in the Catalogue. All riders must be suitably attired when entering the ring, and competitors will not be allowed in the ring without jackets. ESNZ LEVIES All riders, horses and ponies must compete with the appropriate ESNZ membership. All classes run under ESNZ rules current at the time of the Show. All horses must pay: $5 Jumping Levy (all horses compulsory) and (horses not registered for ESNZ Jumping/Show Hunter) $15 / $10 Casual Jumping Levy This levy is $15 for the first day and $10 for subsequent days at the same show. Rules for the World Cup Class - ART: 273.3, , Table A two round competition not against the clock in the first round and against the clock in the second round. Athletes return for the second round in accordance with art: Athletes are classified according to their aggregate penalties over both rounds and time incurred in the second round. Open to riders from the beginning of the calendar year in which they reach 18 years. The FEI Code of Conduct - For the Welfare of the Horse The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) expects all those involved in international equestrian sport to adhere to the FEI's Code of Conduct and to acknowledge and accept that at all times the welfare of the horse must be paramount and must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial influences At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses, welfare must take precedence over all other demands. This includes good horse management, training methods, farriery and tack, and transportation. Horses and Athletes must be fit, competent and in good health before they are allowed to compete. This encompasses medication use, surgical procedures that threaten the welfare or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids. Events must not prejudice horse welfare. This involves paying careful attention to the competition areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the event. Every effort must be made to ensure that horses receive proper attention after they have competed and that they are treated humanely when their competition careers are over. This covers proper veterinary care, competition injuries, euthanasia and retirement. 48
