49 Tarentum Auxiliary Aides Local Fire Department with huge Project IN FEBRUARY 2017 AT A REGULAR AUXILIARY MEETING TARENTUM AUXILIARY #699 DECIDED TO TAKE ON THE BIGGEST CHARITABLE FUNDRAISER IN ITS HISTORY. AS A TEAM WE DECIDED TO RAISE THE FUNDS FOR THE CITIZENS HOSE FIRE AND EMS COMPANYLOCATED IN NATRONA HIEGHTS, PA TO BUILD A FIRE SAFETY TRAINING ROOM FOR THEM AND SURROUNDING COMPANIES TO TRAIN IN. THIS ROOM WOULD CONSIST OF CHANGING MAZES, DROP FLOORING, ENTRAPPMENT AREAS, BREAK AWAY DOORS, NARROW CRAWL SPACES, 40 LB CHILD LIKE DUMBIES AND MUCH MORE. WHILE IN USE THE ROOM WOULD BECOME DARK AND AT TIMES COULD BE FILLED WITH A SPECIAL TYPE OF HARMLESS SMOKE USED TO HELP IN TRAINING. FIRE FIGHTERS WOULD THEN ENTER EXPECTED TO EXTINQUISH THE FIRE AND SAVE ANYONE TRAPPED IN THE STRUCTURE INCLUDING THEMSEVLES, IF NECESSARY. THIS ROOM WOULD COST A TOTAL OF $ 10, (TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS). THESE SIMULATED TRAINING CLASSES WHERE TIMED AS WAS THE AIR TANKS THAT THE FIRE PERSONEL WENT IN WITH. SURVIVAL WAS THE TRUE PURPOSE ALONG WITH SAFTEY. LIVES WERE AND ARE ALWAYS AT STAKE WHEN OUR MEN AND WOMEN FIRE FIGHTERS, BOTH VOLUNTEERS AND PAID SERVICE PERSONEL GO INTO A FIRE. OUR AUXILAIRY HAD NEVER TAKEN ON SUCH A LARGE TASK; WE DECIDED THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY OUT OF 217 ACTUAL AUXILIARY MEMBERS THAT ARE TRUELY ACTIVE THAT IF WE REALLY PULLED TOGETHER WE COULD DO IT. YOU ALSO HAVE TO REMEMBER SOME MEMBERS HELP BEHIND THE SCENE. I AM SO PROUD TO SAY THAT WITH, THE HARD WORK OF THE AUXILIARY, THE FAI TH THEY HAD IN EACH OTHER AND THE SUPPORT FROM OUR AERIE BROTHERS, EAGLE RIDERS AND THE COMMUNITY WE ACCOMPLISHED OUR GOAL. BUT THERE IS ONE OTHER GROUP WE NEED TO MENTION AND THAT IS THE FIRE FIGHTERS OF CITIZENS HOSE. THEY WORKED WITH US, SIDE BY SIDE. SOME EVEN BECAME EAGLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS, THEY BECAME OUR FRIENDS. TOGETHER WE HELPED REACH AN UNREACHABLE DREAM IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. ON DECEMBER 19 TH 2017 THE CITIZENS HOSE FIRE FIGHTERS CAME AS GUESTS TO OUR REGULAR MEETING TO RECEIVE THEIR FINAL PAYMENT THAT WOULD TOTAL THE $ ,THAT WE HAD COMMITTED TO. TO OUR SURPRISE THEY PRESENTED EACH AND EVERY AUXILIARY OFFICER AND MEMBER AT THE MEETING WITH A ROSE AND A THANK YOU CARD, THEY ALSO HAD A SPECIAL ANTIQUE HELMET FROM THEIR COMPANY, WITH A SHIELD THAT HAD BEEN MADE IN HONOR OF TARENTUM AUXILIARY #699 FROM THE COMPANY ON IT ALONG WITH CITIZENS HOSE VFC. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN A PLAQUE PLACED OUTSIDE THE SAFETY TRAINING ROOM AT THE FIRE COMPANY STATING THAT TARENTUM #699 AUXILIARY DONATED THE FUNDS TO BUILD THE ROOM. MANY COMPANIES HAVE SINCE TRAINED IN THE ROOM. WE ARE SO THANKFUL THAT WE HAD THE COURAGE TO TAKE ON THIS PROJECT AS EAGLE SISTERS AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT PROJECT. WE HAVE GAINED SO MUCH FROM IT. WE HOPE THAT OTHERS WILL REACH OUT WITH COURAGE AND HELP WHOEVER YOU CAN, HOWEVER YOU CAN, EACH OF US CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF YOU JUST TAKE THAT FIRST STEP.
