1 SPOKE N WORD MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF THE IDAHO BRITISH CAR CLUB Available in color on the webpage July 2012 Volume 21 Issue 7 PREZ WORDS INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Prez Words 1 Info on upcoming events UPCOMING EVENTS July 7, Coffee at Bob s Sunrise Café July 21, Coffee at Tully s July 25, Wednesday Night Drive 2 Are you sunburnt yet? Two car show in two weeks and by the time you read this another Wednesday nite drive. A successful but event filled Father's Day show had our club filling up most of eighth street by the big hole excavation. Chris Gardner carried our club banner in on Grandpa's Ford pickup and became English Ford for the day. The other English Ford for a day was not as welcome as an idling hotrod forgot the fuse that ran his electric fan and blew a radiator hose just at it passed us. The geyser hit four LBCs but Rod s was totally soaked! Luckily Rod had just walked across the street or I m sure he would have received a dangerous scalding. Our guilty hotrod failed to adequately apologize and was possibly saved a verbal scalding when Rod zoomed off to the car wash to save the car and probably turn the hose on himself to cool down. Rod, Bob Frisby will be sharing his all wet award with you when he finds a suitable raincoat or shower cap to present you. The day was spent in camaraderie giving out trading cards to little kids and explaining where England was and listening to many "I had one of these once" stories. Many of us walked around met old friends and even saw some cars we hadn't seen before. Thanks Big Jack and Patty Armstrong, a good time was had by all, accept maybe Rod who lost his British Flag as well. If any homeless guys or college kid with a dorm room art project thinks a British Flag was just what he needed. Give it back! Now for the commercial - Big Jack and Patty sent us a reminder of Motorfest July They'd love to have us. Officers 2 (Continued on page 4) June Happenings 3 HOW TO SPONSOR A WEDNESDAY NITE DRIVE Welcome 3 Summer Tour 5 Classifieds 8 Find an interesting restaurant, pub or entertaining spot. Ask them how they are equipped to deal with 30 or so people showing up. Get menu's or ideas how expensive the food or activity is. Call Todd Eshelman, event coordinator, be prepared to show up at Veterans Park and command the folks there to head out behind you. It doesn't have to always be food but warn folks if you plan to go to the Go Cart Park or a drive to Lucky Peak for pictures that it then becomes a bring your own picnic. There are quite a number a successful places we've been but the club is always open to new ideas..

4 Page 4 PREZ WORDS CONTINUED Father s Day Car Show Wingert s Mini got a ride home Our 11th annual Summer Tour went off in McCall June 22 nd to 24 th. Rick's use of the Rain word in his last E mails did not jinx us and the weather was great. 73 cars on the grass in the park two or three parked on the road next to the park and a couple that had to leave early. Our new class of naked Austin Healy drew comments as did the depth on the Jaguar field. We drew a lot more locals this year and many favorable comments from participants and audience. And to wrap it up some of us stuck around for one last chance to see the Payette Lake sea monster Sharlie on the recently added cruise boat That's Sharlie not Charlie young mister Wingert. The monster was seen by many who's speech was altered by the brew they had enjoyed. Speaking of the Wingert's, at least Realy Ann, yep you won it fair an square. The TT of Whoa is yours and Bob Frisby was there to congratulate you. Sorry but the little Mini went home on the truck. We're hoping just a head gasket but ask Charlie about the noises it made as it declined. The kid captured it all too well. Hope it gets well soon we love the pair of those Mini's. And my final words on the tour. I apologize to all on the judging and awards, I have a hard enough time keeping cars and people names straight but for all our attempts to assign numbers to cars so we could easily get pictures to you; that didn't translate to names in the final awards but we really do know that the MGC got the most votes and that Sam Bass stole Alan Lemmon's 2nd prize only because he got their first. We'll get a 2nd somewhere for you, maybe from Mr. Hines who won his class by being car number 9 but also by being group leader with car number 1. But then that cheating Terry Thompson noticed that Terry Shannon's car was also number 9 and expected to win on the strength of Shannon's unique car. Well Terry did go home with an award and I think it was Shannon s. A Big shout out thank you to the City and folks of McCall. Hotel McCall, Jug Mountain Ranch {David Carey on both of these] America's Best Value Inn and Suites, McCall Golf Course, McCall R.V Resort and Parma Ridge Wineries. And some kid named Rolfe that kicked in a bottle of wine too. Well another page of Thank You s elsewhere. The McCall Summer Tour also marked the passing of Jim Philpotte of Tyee Triumphs. Steve Knudsen took a moment at our dinner to remind us of the tours he had shared with IBCC and some of the tours and help he had provided to his fellow club members. Safe Motoring to Jim he will be missed. On another note Dick Dennis, whose wife Karen passed away last year, will be moving to Indiana. We'll miss you Dick and the great times we shared at that wonderful house on Boise Avenue. Dave

To me it seems all too surreal, and I occasionally have a guilty feeling that I am not preparing for the Tour. But it is behind us now, and I believe everyone who attended had a great time. I know I did, even when I was so tired at the end that a felt like I could nap for ages. The official count on the number of cars parked in the Depot Park was 74, nine more than last year. The IBCC Summer Tour has come a long way from the first one in 2002, where I believe the car count was somewhere around ten. Where the 2002 Tour was a Club event, we can see now that the Tour is a regional event involving cars and their drivers and co-drivers from all over the Northwest. While I am always thrilled to see a lot of IBCC members attend our drives and events (and our focus as a Club should always be to have events and drive for our members), it is very rewarding to me to see and meet members from other clubs. I was so tired and wound up after the award banquet that I couldn't sleep. So I was up at 2 a.m. walking around the hotel parking lot just looking at these beautiful cars and the license plates on each and just very pleased that I was allowed the opportunity to be a part of bringing them all together to McCall, Idaho. So I say THANK YOU to all from the IBCC but also to our old and new friends from the Tyee Triumph Club, the Portland Triumph Owners Association, Northwest British Classics, the Inland Empire MG Classic Car Club, and the Columbia Gorge MGA Club. While our committee did the job of putting on the Tour, it was each you and your clubs that made the 2012 Summer Tour such a success! Continue page 7

7 Page 7 Lastly, I want to say thanks to the Tour committee for all the work they put into this. They are Nancy and Lee Otterness, Linda and Paul Mascuch, Rick and Claudia Kloss, Rod and Becky Nichols, Cheri Ross and Peter Van Dorne, Bill and Sue Dryden, Todd and Carlene Eshelman, Terry and Beth Shannon, Dave and Carol Countryman and Liz Mills. Also to all the others I can't name here that stepped up when called on. Without these folks, the Tour could not have happened. So now the planning starts for the 13th Annual IBCC Summer Tour. I hope to see you all there! Photo by Rick Mills The following photos by Rick Kloss Top row: meeting at WinCo prior to departure and the drive up.
