Simpson put together the best season of any first-year Loyola coach in , leading the Ramblers to a mark with a senior-laden squad, and this year s team returns its top five scorers from last year. Simpson graduated from Northwestern in 1994 with a degree in history and brings a career record of (.448) into tonight s game and is 4-3 (.571) against Cleveland State, including a 2-1 record at Wolstein Center loyola/cleveland state - the series Tonight is the 40th meeting between the conference foes with Cleveland State holding a edge in the all-time series. While the Vikings are 13-5 (.722) in the 18 previous meetings here, Loyola has found success of late in the Rock and Roll Capital of the World, winning two of the previous three games here. Troy Hambric scored a career-high 26 points as the Ramblers jumped out to a halftime lead and were never headed in an win in this fixture last season. This year, Hambric converted two free throws with :00.1 left to give LU a win in a back-and-forth game at Gentile Arena opponents struggling to handle long arms of the law Sophomore post Simone Law made an immediate impact last season, giving the Ramblers a presence in the paint, and has continued to play at a high level this year. A member of the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team and a Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team choice this fall, Law became the first freshman in program history to lead the team in both scoring and rebounding last season and she is pacing the Ramblers in both categories again this year (16.2/8.7). Law was playing some of the best basketball of her career, racking up three double-doubles in five games, before missing six games with a finger injury. However, she picked up right where she left off, pouring in 25 points (11-17 FGs) off the bench in her return against Cleveland State and is averaging 22.8 ppg and 7.0 rpg in five games since coming back double-double data As detailed above, Simone Law has established herself as a key scorer and rebounder for the Ramblers. She has seven double-doubles this season (12 career) and her 24-point, 10-rebound performance against Wright State was her seventh career game of 20 or more points and 10 or more rebounds, the most by a Loyola player since Nicole Richards had eight from In addition, Law has missed two more double-doubles this season by one rebound, marking the seventh and eighth time in her career that she has needed one more carom. Should she maintain her 8.7 rpg average, it would be the fourth-highest season output in LU history and best since Richards ripped down 9.4 rpg during the season

With her 13 points against Detroit, Albano passed former teammate Maggie McCloskey to move into seventh place on Loyola s all-time scoring list. Albano enters tonight s game seven points behind Lisa Kasprowicz (6th - 1,296) and 14 behind Ciara Henderson (5th - 1,303) defense may win championships but offense helps too While injuries wrecked havoc on Loyola s starting lineup for most of the season, the fully healthy Ramblers are starting to gel, particularly on the offensive end. Loyola has shot over 40% in each of the last seven games - including a season-high 53% marksmanship on Thursday against Detroit - after reaching that mark just six times over its first 18 outings. As the numbers below illustrate, LU has been much more efficient lately and it has helped produce results Span FGs 3FGs PPG W-L Last 7 gms 45.5 ( ) 37.9 (47-124) Previous 5 gms 34.1 ( ) 23.0 (20-87) this taylor is a great fit In freshman Taylor Johnson, it appears that Loyola s tradition of strong guard play will continue for the foreseeable future. Johnson burst on the scene with 26 points against Southern Illinois and she has been solid ever since. She finished with 12 points and 10 steals - one shy of LU single-game record - in just 20 minutes against Chicago State and has racked up four traditional double-doubles in Horizon League play, including her 33-point, 11-rebound, seven-assist, five-steal virtuoso performance against Milwaukee. Johnson finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday against Youngstown State and has upped her game in conference play, averaging 18.2 points and 7.8 rebounds against League opponents. She narrowly missed a double-double in the first meeting with Cleveland State, ending with 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals nothing new about johnson winning awards After averaging 18.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 3.0 spg in two games last week, Taylor Johnson was named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week for the sixth time this season and second week in a row. Johnson leads all Horizon League freshmen this season in scoring (14.6 ppg), rebounding (6.3 rpg) and steals (2.9 spg) and is third in assists (3.1 apg). In addition, she is 28th in the most recent NCAA statistics in steals, third among freshmen. Johnson is trying to become just the second Rambler, regardless of class, to average 13 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg and 3 spg in a single season (Sheryl Porter, ) high five As mentioned earlier, Loyola is riding a five-game winning streak into today s game, its longest Horizon League winning streak since ripping off five in a row during the season. In addition, it is just the second time in the last 24 seasons that the Ramblers have been able to string together as many as five straight League wins and they have not won six in a row since reeling off eight straight during the campaign no rest for the weary...or the ramblers Tonight s game is part of Loyola s busiest stretch of the season, as the Ramblers are playing their third game in five days. With a home game against Milwaukee scheduled for Thursday, Loyola will have squeezed four games into an eight-day period. BLOCKS Abby Skube 76 3-POINT FIELD GOALS Monica Albano 244

While she went through a bit of a lull at the start of Horizon League play, Albano broke out of her funk in a big way with a season-high 31 points at Milwaukee and has played well ever since. Albano was 5th in the latest NCAA rankings in 3FGM per game this season but was held without a three-pointer for just the fourth time this season (4 pts, 2-8 FGs, 0-4 3FGs) in the win over Youngstown State. She scored 11 points, including three treys, in the first meeting this year with Cleveland State protecting the pumpkin One thing that Loyola has done tremendously well this season has been protect the basketball. The Ramblers are averaging just 11.5 turnovers per game thus far, a figure that puts them second in the country behind Villanova (11.0) heading into today s game. After their win over Detroit, the Ramblers are now 29-3 (.906) under Simpson when scoring at least 70 points and (.274) when they fail to reach that plateau. Thus far, Loyola is averaging 73.3 ppg in its wins compared to 59.2 ppg in defeat ramblers riding big three While Loyola has a roster of players capable of scoring the ball, the lion s share of the scoring load has fallen on the trio of Monica Albano, Taylor Johnson and Simone Law. 7 never underestimate the importance of a good start One gauge for forecasting the outcome of Loyola s games has been its first-half performance. While LU is 10-5 this season when leading or tied at the break, the Ramblers are only 2-8 (.200) when trailing at intermission. The numbers cement a trend over the years that has seen slow starts leading to losses as LU is just 6-79 when trailing at the half since the start of the season and the last 152 times in which it has been behind after 20 minutes waiting in the wings In addition to its four-person recruiting class, Loyola will also have the service of Courtney Lindfors next season. The former Milwaukee standout is sitting out this season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. She averaged 10.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in two seasons at UWM and will have two years of eligibility remaining I think a change will do you good In part due to the early-season absence of Troy Hambric, Loyola has yet to really settle on a starting lineup. In fact, the Ramblers have used 14 different starting lineups already through 24 games (Taylor Johnson is the only player to start every game), the most recent coming last Wednesday night against Valparaiso. Loyola has not used any single lineup more than four times this season a different form of 20/20 Simone Law continued her terrific form, finishing with a game-high 24 points in the win over Youngstown State. Law was consistently able to exploit mismatches and finished the game 6-of-10 from the floor and 12-of-21 from the free throw line. The 21 charity tosses are a new Loyola single-game record, surpassing Sherry Metz s previous record of 18 versus Marquette on Jan. 17, 1991 ramblers vs. CLEVELAND STATE Name GP-GS FGA-FGM FG% 3FGM-3FGA 3FG% FTM-FTA FT% HI PPG RPG APG Simone Law Taylor Johnson Troy Hambric Abby Skube Monica Albano Lauren Hibbard Lyndsey Booker Ayrealle Beavers Molly Crosby Becca Smith Gabby Micek Katie Faught RECORD BOOK FRESHMAN POINTS 1.
