1 MARYBOROUGH FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB INC Club Newsletter April 2014 Website: Season 2014 is here and our Club is again an active contender in the competition. Our General Committee, along with our wonderful Football Committee, have all worked extremely hard during the off season to fill the position of Coaches, Assistants and also to recruit players to fill the vacancies left by departing players. We are often asked the following question, How will the sides do? this will be answered when the next 17 games have been played however I would like many to know Our boys will do OK! The Club has appointed two extremely loyal Club Members in Jamie Bond and Glen Chadwick to the role of Senior Coaches, while the Reserves are in the capable hands of Eathen Jennings and Matt Johns, while the new Under 18 team is looking forward to the season with Peter Egan and Graham Pratt at the helm. Many new faces will be seen at the Club and we welcome them and their families and we hope they will enjoy their time with us, both on and off the field. We also have some terrific new sponsors on board, who, along with the long term and loyal sponsors, will create a successful season. We urge our supporters to give them your support. We also welcome back our loyal supporters and we remind you to purchase your membership urgently before the season starts and support the many activities around the Club. Our Netball girls have also been working hard over the long summer break and they hope to have teams and coaches and players for all their teams. Reminders 1. Memberships if yours is not paid up, please do so soon 2. Canteen can you help 1 hour or so, your help will be appreciated 3. Training Night Tea if you can do a small job on a regular basis, please offer your services To all our teams, both football and netball, all the best for your first game. Remember: The Best Team on the Ground is Ours! Go Again Magpies Page 1
2 Maryborough FNC Presidents Report I am not one to look back at the past and blame anything or anyone, I just like to get over it quickly and move on and so we have. Jamie and Glen have taken on a huge task to get 3 sides on the ground for season The pressure that was put on the club by the league to have an U18 side was stressful enough but to the credit of all concerned, this was achieved and now looks promising for the club with the talent we were able to recruit. Coach Peter Egan, fresh from the u/16s in 2013, will take charge of the new u/18s and is looking forward to show casing the talent of the former u/16s and the new recruits from the district league. Matt Johns and EJ are the new coaches of the development side. Numbers are not too bad and with all the new recruits coming to the club, the depth is looking good. The number of new recruits that have landed on our door steps are going to turn this club around. The talent they possess will attract supporters and keep interest around the club very alive. The first game against Kangaroo Flat will be of interest when the boys come against the old team mate Salty lining up in their forward line. The club wishes him all the best with his new club. Congratulations to the new A grade netball captain Jordy Mac. A wonderful player and a deserving reward for her. I would like to wish all the coaches and players the best of luck for the opening game and would like to welcome all our new and current sponsors for season 2014 with a special thanks to Eddington Engineering for the new jumpers and their wonderful sponsorship. Newsletters will be sent regularly to keep you informed each fortnight to keep you in the loop with the club. MFNC needs your support for us to continue our march to success in GO MAGPIES. 5 Netball News Teams: This year the Netball Club will field 4 netball teams; 17 and Under, B grade, A Reserve and A Grade, with no B Reserve team. Over the past couple of seasons, we have struggled to attract and retain an adequate number of players to field 5 competitive netball teams. This season, we have also faced a shortage of players in the 17 & Under Grade. The coaches and executive committee have worked tirelessly in consultation with the league, to ensure that we field a 17 & Under team. As a result, we have a small number of 17 & Under players who will play for their MCFNL club in the morning and then play for us at the approved time of 2pm. Coaches: The club welcomes new coaches across all grades this season. Anna Bucknall, Tracey Smith and Kerry Egan will coach the 17 & Under and B Grade teams. Leanne Dellvedova will take on the A Reserve coaching job. A Grade has appointed joint coaches in Alisha Chadwick and Laura Hurse, with Rachael Palmer assisting on games days. Players: Juniors : Shaiden Smith, Maddie Egan, Abbey Wagstaff, Courtney Dix, Ebony Cain, Mikaela Lugg, Sharine Lanfranchi, Kirsten Deaker, Danni Cain, Shayla Street, Tori Chandler, Ella Tranter, Maggie Tranter Seniors: Tracey Smith, Nickola Allan, Sarah Lohman, Brooke Murray, Jordan Spokes, Gill Cain,,Melissa Adams, Quetta Holloway, Bridgette Epworth, Jess Egan, Kate McLoughlin, Ingrid Dellavedova, Rachael O Halloran, Kahlia Dix, Chloe Egan, Eva Jullian, Jaymie Proctor, Olivia O Shea, Jordan Macilwain, Zoey Kerr, Anna Bucknall, Alicia Cassidy, Laura Hurse, Alisha Chadwick and Brylie Earl. Pre-Season: All girls have worked hard in the pre-season. Recent training sessions have focused on building fitness with attention to speed and footwork. Training has been held on Monday s and Thursdays, with many doing boot camp, fitness challenges and gym work outs in their own time. To assist in building match fitness, the club recently played a practice match against Carisbrook. Additionally, some players have been competing in a preseason netball competition at the TLC on Monday nights. Everyone is looking forward to the season starting and hoping to improve on last season s efforts. Page 5
6 B GRADE NETBALL The Maryborough Football Netball club delivers an exciting start to the 2014 netball season for the B Grade netball team, with a diverse range of players, some familiar and some new, we have produced a team that will sure to be a challenge in the BFNL. Across the court, attackers, defenders and mid court players, we account for all these areas and some of which many of the players have the ability and diversity to play in any position we direct them into. As a coach I hope to see individuals step up to what they know they are capable of achieving, and work together as a team to expose each other's skills and knowledge of the game. We kick off the season with a tough match against Kangaroo Flat. I wish the girls all the luck with the season, and let's show what we Maryborough girls are made of! Anna Bucknall Coach - B Grade U17 s NETBALL Maryborough Football Netball Club has had a challenging preparation for the U season. Initially due to the lack of sufficient numbers it was difficult to ensure that a team was going to be possible. It took a group of people with passion about the club to consider other options outside the square to organise for a competitive team. Thank you to these people, who together have made it possible to allow all girls interested in representing and playing for Maryborough U17 Netball to take the court. The three coaches; Anna Bucknall, Kerry Egan and Tracey Smith are prepared to commit their time, energy and passion for these girls who wish to play and improve their Netball. We are training on Monday and Thursday nights and would welcome any young local girls to attend each week if considering playing in the future for MFNC. We would ask that parents, friends and supporters of MFNC encourage the girls as much as possible. The League have to be congratulated for their support in ensuring MFNC have been able to develop a plan for the change of time to allow for the U17 s to play at 2.00pm to support other local girls to play. Our first game is Saturday 5 th April and it is a night match against Kangaroo Flat who have been a challenging team in the past. We wish the girls all the best for the season, we are looking forward to an exciting year and hope to see as many people as possible at their games each week. Page 6
