New Orleans beat Dallas in the paint (38-28), with second-chance points (13-6), and on the fast break (24-8). 30 of Dallas 44 points from the bench came in the first half. Dallas was held to recording only one steal, while New Orleans recorded 10. PAUL IN PURSUIT OF BACK-TO-BACK MVP CALIBER SEASONS: Below are a few of Chris Paul s impressive numbers that demonstrate his dominant play at the point guard position. Paul has scored 20 or more points and dished out 10 or more assists 17 times this season. Paul s 30-plus point, 15-plus assist and zero turnover performance was the first of that caliber since John Stockton had 33 points, 15 assists and no turnovers on December 28, There have been 13 games during the NBA season in which a player has scored 20-plus points and had 13-plus assists Paul has registered eight of those contests and is one of only two players with multiple performances of that caliber. Paul scored 34 points, had nine assists, eight steals and four rebounds 12/20 vs. SAC, the third such game of his career only two other players have turned in multiple performances of that caliber since the season, in Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson both registered at least 30 points, nine assists and eight steals twice during that span. Paul has had double-digit assists in 26 of 36 games this season he is the first player to start the season with at least eight straight games with double-digit assists (to start the year) since John Stockton had at least 10 assists in his first nine games in Paul had 30 points and 11 assists 1/3 at DEN, marking the 12th time in his career he's had at least 30 points and 10 assists. HORNETS TURN IN IMPRESSIVE WIN IN HOLLYWOOD: Below are a few notes from the Hornets win over the Lakers on 1/6. The Hornets snapped the Lakers 15-game winning streak on their home floor. The Hornets' 116 points are the most the Lakers have given up at home this season. New Orleans limited the Lakers to a season-low 13 fourth-quarter points. The Hornets converted on 33 of their 37 attempts (both season-highs) from the charity stripe and the Lakers made 17 of their 22 attempts the teams combined shot a total of 59 free throws. The Hornets shot 50.6% from the field 1/6 at LAL, going 39-of-77 from the floor, despite going just 5-of-14 from three-point range. Kobe Bryant scored 39 points, but was outscored by David West, who had 40 it was only the fourth time in his career that Bryant has scored that many points in a game without being the high scorer he was previously bested by Gilbert Arenas (2006), Allen Houston (2003) and Jerry Stackhouse (2001).
