1 Wellington Rugby League Newsletter- Pass It On Edition 20 Friday 13th September 2013 In this issue: Orcas results 17 s & Premiers, College League draw & results, Pirtek National Premiership ORCA draw, 2013 State of Origin winner, Pacific Cup 5th October, Kapiti Bears Cup this Sunday, Junior Kiwis & NZ Residents 16 s, Orcas 12 s, 13 s & 14 s representative players named For the latest news, draws, ladders, cancellations/changes visit Dates for your diary... 21st Sept Girls College Lightning League, 5th Oct Pacific Cup Wise Park, 5-6th Oct Wellington Futures Tournament, 8th Nov WRL Golf Classic, 9th November Melbourne Storm Camp, 9th Nov WRL Awards night Visit us on Facebook LIKE US ON FACEBOOK
2 Monday Night Football came alight last Monday as the Orcas nearly pulled off a last minute win against the reigning champions Akarana. The boys showed plenty of guts and determination fighting back after being down 8 nil after only 5 minutes to lead 16-8 at the break. Akarana regrouped in the second half to go out to a lead before milking a penalty in front of the sticks to extend the lead to with under 10 minutes on the clock. The Orcas kept attacking and whilst guilty perhaps of trying to score off every play they eventually crossed in the right corner to set up an exciting last few minutes. Alas what seemed like a try in the dying seconds on the left edge was not to be as a touch judge call on a play the ball gave possession up. This weekend sees our Premiers and 17s play together for the first time this season as we travel to Whanganui for the local derby against the Mid-Central Vipers. The 17s will be looking to continue on their undefeated way but will need to be wary of the Vipers. The Premiers need to regroup after last weeks close loss as they have proven they can foot it with heavy weights and are still in the hunt for a top 2 finish. The Junior origin series was decided last week Western Bays winning 3-2 and now the focus goes on the Junior rep teams for the 12s,13s,14s. The college competitons are underway and whilst we have made some great inroads over the last few years it is disappointing that a number of colleges and their rugby departments still continuing to undermine rugby league and the opportunity for boys to play our great game. Never the less we will continue the good fight to ensure rugby league is an option for those who want to play. It s the business end of the season for the NRL and what a series this will be whislt it is hard to look outside the top 4 for the eventual winner it would not surprise to see any of the bottom 4 pushing hard for a Grand Final appearance. The Dogs still have not hit their straps yet, the Sharkies have a fierce pack and sharp backline, the Cowboys are on a 6 game winning streak and have the JT factor and the Knights have depth and a wealth of experience and the master of coaches Wayne Bennett. My predictions- Roosters, Sharks, Knights, Bunnies Can t wait. Results for Orcas 17 s & Premiers 17s Wellington Orcas 20 v Akarana Falcons 18, Counties Manukau Stingrays 42 v Wai-Coa-Bay Colts 6, Northern Swords 28 v South Island Scorpions 22 Premiers Northern Swords 0 v Canterbury Bulls 52 Counties Manukau Stingrays 54 v Wai-Coa-Bay Stallions 22, Wellington Orcas 20 v Akarana Falcons 24 DINGO
