1 100 W. Franklin Room 16 Clinton, MO (660) FAX: (660) This I Believe The following was written by an Indiana 4-H Club Staff person and fits with fair time 1. 4-H boys and girls are more important than the 4-H projects H is not trying to replace the home, the church, and the school only to supplement H ers should be their own best exhibit. 4. No 4-H award is worth sacrificing the reputation of a 4-H member or leader. 5. Competition is a natural human trait and should be recognized as such in 4-H club work. It should be given no more emphasis than other fundamentals in 4-H. 6. Learning how to do the project is more important than the project itself. 7. Many things are caught rather than taught. 8. A blue ribbon 4-H boy/girl with a red ribbon pig is more desirable than a red ribbon boy/girl with a blue ribbon pig. 9. To learn by doing is a fundamental in any sound educational program and characteristic of the 4-H program. 10. Learning how to think is more important that what to think. All good points to keep in mind as the heat of summer ushers in the fair season. The following clubs were in attendance and gave updates: Montrose Busy Beavers, Clinton Cougars, Clinton Cool Cats, Shawnee Mound Indians and HC Sharp Shooters. Those not attending were: Clinton Rockets, CCA, Leesville Leprechauns, and Mt. Zion Lions. Old Business: Kim Hall said there were a few openings for camp if you know anyone interested in attending they should contact the office immediately. Henry County camp counselors will be Mikayla and Alex Engeman, Alex Jones, Taylor Henzlik, Julie Hull, and Haylee Hayes. Alyssa Engeman and Kayla Taylor were chosen as counselors in training. Several 4-Hers from the county are scheduled to attend. Kim reported the Carnival made roughly $4, Kim also reported next year s 4-H dues are still $11 before Jan. 1 but a dues increase will take effect after Jan. 1, Dues will increase to $20 per member. Clubs should plan on getting their forms in early to take advantage of the current dues of $11. If members have a hardship paying the increased dues they should contact Kim. The Olde Glory Days committee needs 25 4-H youth to help them with their Deal/No Deal game on July 3 rd at 7:00 on the Clinton square. Let Verlinda know if you are interested in helping. They will also need your T-shirt size to order matching T -shirts. Alex Jones thanked everyone for helping with the Pull Tab campaign. 589,000 pull tabs were delivered from Henry County to the Ronald McDonald House in KC. New Business: Carnival-nothing further to report. Banquet & Awards- They are planning on holding the banquet at the Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 11 th, to cut expenses. They are asking the extension council to provide desserts, 4-H families to provide side dishes, and the 4-H council to purchase the meat and paper goods. Invitations will be sent to 4-H families and those receiving an award to encourage attendance. They will limit the photographs to group shots after the banquet to cut down on chaos of getting photos and participating as presenters and/or receiving awards. Awards will be on certificate paper and they will attempt to make them look the same. Fair Committee- The times and dates the clubs were to watch the 4-H exhibits during the fair were shared with those in attendance. They will be printed in the upcoming LINKS. Volunteers are still needed to cover the dog show concession stand and lead the games for Westin Wilkins Fun Night. Contact Michelle Henzlik if interested. Presentation Day-Judges are still needed for Presentation Day. The committee worked on finalizing the list to give to Rosemary Peterman which will make final contacts when she starts as summer help May 27 th. Budget-The council officers met with Paula Thornley to discuss next year s budget. The carnival didn t bring in as much money as last year so funds were dispersed differently in the budget. The activity fund was deleted completely and money dispersed in the budget where it could better benefit more members and not just the handful that attend activities previously supported by the fund. Zac Jones made a motion to accept the new budget and Chelsea Thornley seconded. Motion carried to accept the new budget as presented. At the September meeting, the council wishes to discuss giving all or a portion of the leftover budget to the Endowment Fund. Henry County 4-H Link 9
