Pre-registration is due July 1st and includes a T-shirt for the livestock shows! All fair activities will be held at the American Legion Field in Milan. The 4-H & FFA Horse show and circuit show is Sunday, July 1st, at the Green City Saddle Club Arena. IF YOU MISSED THE SHOW ME QUALITY CERTIFICATION TRAINING IT S NOT TO LATE! You can go on line at and take the training that way. In order to exhibit a food product animal (beef, dairy, goat, sheep, swine, poultry or rabbits) you are required training. Remember for youth ages 8-13 by January 1 of the program year, you must take the training for 2 consecutive years. Then at the age of 14 you must take it for one last time. 3 E-Commerce for Kids Workshop, August 1 4-Hers Can Learn How to Sell Online Want to put your 4-H skills to use to sell items online, start a business from home, and still have time for 4-H, friends, and fun? Curious how other youth are using online sites like Facebook, ebay, and Etsy to earn their own money? Find out this summer! Missouri 4-H is offering an e-commerce online workshop for any 4-H youth ages who are interested in learning about e- commerce. No experience necessary! Joining this online meeting of youth and adult leaders from your home computer will be easy on August 1. Visit our website or fill out the attached registration form to reserve your spot! Questions? , hennesss@missouri.edu. 4-H FRIENDS: SHOW ME 4-H WARES Show Me 4-H Wares at the State Fair applications are coming due soon. 4-H members/ groups who apply by July 1 will be selected and notified by July 15. Applications can continue to come in until Aug. 1, or until the youth marketplace at the State Fair fills up. Like last year, two 10x10 booths are reserved for Aug. 9, 10, 11, 12. Youth can request a 4-hour or 8-hour timeslot to sell on one of those days. This year, mystery shoppers will be visiting the booth and judging how youth present themselves and their items. Ribbons will be awarded in Jr. and Sr. levels. County Show-Me Wares youth are especially encouraged to apply for the State Fair booth! But any individual 4-H member (or group of 3 members representing a club/group) can apply to sell. Please be sure to look for the BIG 4-H CLOVER in the Mizzou Central building, and stop by to see 4-Hers in action! showmewares.htm SHOW ME ROBOTS AT MISSOURI STATE FAIR Lynna Lawson Missouri 4-H is partnering with the Missouri State Fair and SCOPE to offer several opportuni es for fairgoers to learn more about robots. The robo cs educa on and industry will be featured on August 12 & 13 in the Lowell Moheler Exhibi on Hall on the fairgrounds. The event begins each day at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. h p:// On Sunday, August 12, Show Me Robo cs Day will bring agriculture, industry, military, educators and hobbyists together for a showing of robots, careers, and educa on in Missouri featuring exhibits, demonstra ons and interac ve ac vi- es. Mini workshops will give fairgoers the opportunity to build robots and learn more about ge ng involved in robo cs. On Monday, August 13, Robot leagues are planning rumbles for FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST Robo cs Compe on, BEST Botball, and VEX teams. 4-H and adult hobby groups will offer robot challenges and contests that will be open to robo sts of all ages! 4 MISSOURI 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS FUN DAY SHOOT 2012 When: July 21, 2012 Where: Ozark Shooters, Branson Mo Time: 8:30 AM Cost: $61 for clay targets (50 Trap - 50 Skeet - 50 Sporting Clays) Missouri 4-H state shotgun instructors and coaches invite 4-H members to a Fun Day Shoot to be held at Ozark Shooters Shooting Sports Complex. The purpose of this Fun Day Shoot is to provide participants in the 4-H shotgun program an opportunity to experience the various events required of a Shotgun Team member under the guidance & instruction of state instructors. The numbers of 4-H shooters participating in the try out matches for the state shotgun team have declined in recent years. Therefore, the State Shotgun Instructors have decided to hold a Fun Day Shoot to help determine whether holding shotgun team tryouts in the southwestern part of the state, as well as in the Columbia areas, is feasible and worthwhile. This fun day will provide a chance to gauge interest and recruit new shooters. A discussion session after shooting will be held to answer any questions about the state shotgun team and the proposed format change. Advanced registration is required but there is no registration fee. Only cost is the cost of clay targets and shells. See the webpage for forms. go/projects/shootingsports/contests.htm STATE TEAM TRY-OUT EVENTS AT STATE SHOOT Any 4-H shooter considering trying out for the 2013 State shooting teams, please pay attention. Muzzleloading, Smallbore Rifle and Smallbore Pistol teams actually have a state team try-out event at the Missouri 4-H State Shoot, September 15, If you are thinking about trying out for any of these 3 teams, it is highly recommended that you (if eligible) pre-register for these events. PHOTO CONTEST CELEBRATING USDA S 150 TH ANNIVERSARY This is your opportunity to submit photos that capture the diverse ways young people are engaged in agriculture today and the impact it has on communities!! Contestants must be a 4-H member, volunteer, alumnus, or staff and 14 years of age or older. All photographs must be taken by an amateur photographer. Visit for official contest rules. Photos can be submitted on now through the end of the contest, July 2, Photos should reflect on one of three areas of focus: citizenship in agricultural issues, how agriculture affects healthy living, and the science behind agriculture. All eligible photos will be available for public vo ng during July 18-August 1. The photos with the most votes will be chosen as finalists. The finalists' entries will then be voted on by a panel of judges consis ng of USDA staff who will determine the top winners. The winning photographs will be prominently displayed within the 4-H/USDA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., during Na onal 4-H Week, October 1-6, The Photo contest and display are part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Morrill Act and Cooperative Extension. 4

Also attending were Tanner Tipton, Natalie Ayers, Tate Snyder and Zachary Ayers. The five 4-Hers are all members of the Green City 4-H Workers Club. The camp theme this year was 4-H Olympics. Activities and workshops were geared toward the theme and included physical fitness, foods of other countries and skits based on the Olympics. One of the favorite evening events was the paraplegic group that came and shared their life changing experience and why they were in a wheelchair. Campers got to try out the wheelchairs and experience how it was to get around and even play basketball from a wheel chair. 5
