2 Emma C 3rd Matt B 9th Matthew S 25th Tyler T 4th Brookelynn R 22nd Ryan J 28th ANNOUNCING THE 2011 TEEN CONFERENCE! Are you interested in building useful skills while you make about 300 new friends? If the answer is yes, you will definitely want to do that in a leader s paradise, at Teen Conference! Along with new skills, you ll learn about what s waiting for you as a 4-H teenager and meet other youth from across the state. Your teenage leaders on the State 4-H Council have planned this event and they ll all be there, leading the workshops themselves! This event is exclusively for youth ages and there s a reason it always sells out, so contact the county 4-H office today and get signed up! The deadline is December 2, 2010, cost is $129 and t-shirts can be pre-ordered at $15/each. For more info, check the website at Teen Conference Dates: February 5-6, Ages: Cost: Kept at 2010 rate of $129 per person, for youth and adults. T-shirts must be pre-ordered and will be available for purchase at the event for $15 each. Please do not send t-shirt money with the registration check Please do indicate on the county form which sizes your attendees will need (for ordering purposes). Chaperones: Counties are responsible for providing one chaperone for every 10 youth, per existing 4-H policy. For example, a delegation of youth will require 2 chaperones. Lodging: As with last year, the event will take place at Columbia s Stoney Creek Inn. Lodging arrangements will prioritize safety and supervision; youth will be rooming with other youth from their county and region, and chaperone rooms will be located in close proximity to the rooms of the youth they are supervising. A parent waiver allowing youth to share a bed with a peer from their county will be incorporated into the registration form, necessitating that roommate requests be accepted. This will create additional tasks and procedures, so please bear with us through any delays. Registrations: Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis as long as space is available. Not including State 4-H Council members, we are limited to 290 total participants (251 youth and 39 adults) after that, there is literally no room at the Inn. We are not able to reserve spaces in advance, and registrations are not considered complete unless they include all paperwork, a check for registration fees, and one chaperone per 10 youth. Forms and Information: The registration form is available at the Sullivan County Extension office or at MFA SADDLE AWARD Sponsored by MFA Agri-Services-Feed Division, the MFA Saddle Award is for Missouri 4-H members aged 14 years and older participating in the Missouri 4-H Horsemanship Program who demonstrate knowledge and skills in horsemanship and horse science, the ability to share the knowledge and skills with other members and a commitment to better their community. Please complete the Level 3 (Ages 14 to 18) Missouri 4-H Recognition Form to be eligible for the award and the MFA Saddle Award application available at the Extension Office. December 15 deadline in the county office. The MFA Saddle Award is presented at the Missouri Equine Celebration in January. 2

3 CLOVER KIDS CORNER Alison Copeland Through Clover Kids clubs, children learn how to get along, share, work in groups, explore their interests, and build selfconfidence. Each Clover Kids Corner provides an activity, information or other materials that Clover Kids leaders can use in planning and implementing experiences that introduce five to sevenyear olds to the 4-H concept of learning by doing. Thanksgiving Meal Placemats Materials Large construction paper Markers or crayons Brown, orange, and yellow finger paints Clear contact paper Paper plates Directions Draw a turkey on a white piece of construction paper Children can color or decorate the turkey with markers and crayons Pour the finger paint in a paper plate Have each child place their hand into the paint and use the handprint as the turkey's tail feathers When the paint is dry, cover both sides of the paper with the contact paper to create an easy-to-clean placemat Repeat steps 1 through 4 to create a placemat for each dinner guest Ask each child to talk about things for which they are thankful COMPUTERS ON THE FARM Bradd Anderson This annual event is geared for Missouri youth and adults interested in computer applications on the farm. Demonstrations and discussion of computer technologies for farm applications are emphasized in these hands-on, interactive sessions. Registration is required, but there is no registration fee for 4-H ers and their parents to attend Computers on the Farm on January 7-8, Location is Tan-Tar-A resort, and rooms are available at a special low conference rate. Lodging and meals are on your own, and facilities include an indoor water park that the entire family can enjoy. A pizza lunch will be served on 4-H Saturday. RAMS-CHIEFS GAME SOLD OUT - ANOTHER OPTION FOR 4-HERS Dave Hileman Union MO I have just learned that the Rams-Chiefs game is sold out. In order to accommodate any 4-H family who calls in from here on out, the Ram s are offering the same deal for the December 26 game against the 49ers ($35 ticket includes t-shirt & $10 food and drink voucher, orders of 10 or more get additioan). They are working to get the website updated to reflect these changes so when you share this information with families be sure to let them know that the Ram s web site may still have the old information on it. Cyndi Lemmon I think we should be pro-active on the Missouri 4-H site and put up a sign that says that tickets are no longer available for the Rams-Chiefs game, but the Rams are offering 4-H families the same deal for the December 29th Rams 49ers game. I know all these changes are frustrating to 4-H staff, but we are learning in this first year and will know what to change if we continue to offer a 4-H Day with the Rams in And again, feel free to redirect any angry calls to me at:: or Dave Kinsey and Matt Honerkamp of the Rams. You can contact Dave or Matt at: Dave Kinsey: dkinsey@rams.nfl.com Matt Honerkamp: mhonerkamp@rams.nfl.com ATTENTION: BEEF MEMBERS & LEADERS This upcoming 4-H year there will be a change to the H & FFA Livestock Sale. The livestock sale committee will be following the state fair guidelines allowing only market animals to be sold. This means there will NOT be a heifer sponsorship or bucket calf sponsorship in the 2011 livestock sale. 3
