3 State & District News Continued RAISE YOUR HAND FOR 4-H The National 4-H Council is coordinating a nationwide call to action for alumni AND friends to "Raise Your Hand" (RYH) to empower our nation's youth with the skills to lead for a lifetime. You may remember our first RYH campaign back in the spring of This will be similar, but will include "friends of 4-H" as well as alumni. The three states with the most hands raised will win $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000! Stay tuned for surprise incentives along the way. Kansas came in 4th place last time, so we are more than determined to win some money and gain as many 4-H alumni and friends as possible! A Raise Your Hand resource page has been created. Please visit this page to download a very helpful RYH Overview. Included in this guide are social media posts (suggested text to post along with the digital assets provided), as well as sample s to send to listservs you may already have. Please also share, comment, and react to our Kansas 4-H Facebook posts. We will be posting twice weekly, in a coordinated effort with the Kansas 4-H Foundation. 4 State & District News Continued Post Rock District Shooting Sports Corner Hello Post Rockers! There has been so much great Shooting Sports action in our district that I don t know where to start! So I will start with the fun stuff first. Our BB Gunners have been tearing up the shooting lanes at local qualifying matches! In Hays on March 3 rd, Kimberlyn Nichols, Xander Elam and Kale Sorenson represented Post Rock District in awesome style! Out of a highest possible score of 400: Kimberlyn shot a 358, her personal best to date. She placed 3 rd in her age group and 7 th overall. Xander shot a 348, which was also his personal record. He was 7 th in his age group and 14 th overall. There were 86 shooters in his group. Kale was at his very first shoot and shoot a 202. He did awesome for being only 8 years old with very few practices under his belt. And the good news doesn t end there! Xander and Kimberlyn also attended a shoot at Manhattan where Xander shot a 325 and Kimberlyn (drum roll please!) a new personal best of 365! Wow! Hats off to you all and thank you so much Dirk Nichols and parents for all of your help in getting them to the matches! So, let s talk Shotgun Project! We had a great time at Ringneck Ranch on the 18th with five (5) of our kids taking advantage of some great instruction by Keith Houghton and Dean Heise! After a safety talk and basic gun instruction, we went out the range and I mean to tell you, those kids pounded the blue rock! The instructors were shaking their head at what an awesome job the youth did. A big thank you goes out to the participants who paid attention, showed respect for the instructors and then went out and applied what was asked of them! We still have room for more beginners and we supply all of the equipment! Great opportunity to get started! We will meet again at Ringneck Ranch on Sunday, April 15 th. After this date, we will meet at the Osborne Sports Park for the more advanced kids that want to continue improving their shooting skills up to and including prep for competition. There is still time to be involved. Contact me if you are interested! Before I go, remember to have a look at the new Shooting Sports Facebook Group page which is a group under our Post Rock District 4-H page. It is a closed group, but if your family is enrolled in a Post Rock 4-H club, I will add you to the page. Check for upcoming events, pictures and updates of the Post Rock District Shooting Sports project. Thank you ALL! Great kids + Great Instructors + Great Parents = Blessings! Until next month!
