GOATS MUST BE CHECKED IN after 5:00 a.m. and before 10:00 a.m., Monday, of the fair. (No animals are to be brought to the 4-H fairgrounds before 5:00 a.m.) A COMMITTEE MEMBER MUST BE PRESENT TO UNLOAD ANIMALS. ANY GOAT NOT CHECKED IN BY A COMMITTEE MEMBER WILL BE SENT HOME AFTER 10:00 A.M. There will be a goat parent/member at the fair to go over rules and expectations. All members recommended to attend. Date and time TBA. GOATS WILL BE JUDGED on Tuesday of the fair, beginning at 7:30 a.m. RELEASE TIME: All goats not to be sold in the 4-H Auction will be released after 10:00 p.m., Friday to 8:00 a.m., Saturday of the fair. IF LIVESTOCK PULLS OUT BEFORE THE FAIR WEEK IS OVER, THE 4-H'ER WILL RECEIVE AN INCOMPLETE, AND ARE INELIGIBLE TO SELL AN ANIMAL AT THE 4-H AUCTION. THE 4-H'ER WILL ALSO NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW AT THE STATE FAIR, AND NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW IN CASS COUNTY THE FOLLOWING YEAR. READ THE GENERAL LIVESTOCK RULES AND THE 4-H LIVESTOCK AUCTION SECTION. Mini members should consult the mini 4-H page for further instructions. 1. In the event of a conflict of the general rules, the co-chairs, and the goat committee will govern. 2. All Dairy Goat members are on the committee, with a rotation of 3 years co-chairman and the following year chair. (Dairy, Boer, Pygmy) 3. Project animals must be in possession of the 4-H member. ALL 4-H Goat enrollment will be ON- LINE and must be completed unless otherwise stated. 4. Animal enrollment information must be completely filled out or animal will not be eligible to show (i.e. registration number or dam registration number, tattoo, microchip number, or tag number, DOB, class letter) at either the County or State Fair. 5. Each doe that is enrolled must be permanently tattooed in the ear or tail web at the time of enrollment. All tattoos must be readable and correct for animal to be eligible to show. Pygmy Does must have a readable permanent tattoo or microchip. Wethers and Commercial Boer Does must have a county tag (tattoos null and void), except LaManchas and Pygmy wethers. Wethers, Market Does and Commercial Boer Does must be brought to the fairgrounds on May 6 TH from 6-8 p.m. Wethers will be weighed and tagged and Commercial Boer Does will be tagged that day. State Fair bound wethers will be retinal scanned. Pygmy Wethers will be permitted to have tattoo, microchip, or ear tag. (If you want your Pygmy Wether tagged, you can pick up a tag from the Extension Office.) 6. No bales of shavings will be offered for sale at the fairgrounds. 7. No straw bedding will be allowed. Only bark and/or shavings can be used for bedding. 8. All goats will be penned. If necessary, goats should be tied to keep in pen. 9. If pens need divided, the member will supply their own. 10. No solid pen dividers over 4 feet tall will be allowed. No decorating of pens.

2 11. No bucks or Hermaphrodites will be exhibited. Wethers should be castrated, banded or clamped at least 60 days before the show. Any animal with traditional buck appearances or odors will not be permitted to be exhibited. GOATS continued 12. Meat and Dairy Wethers must have no horns. Horns must be removed 30 days before and healed by the fair. Pygmy Wethers will be permitted to have horns. 13. Age of animals shall be computed from actual date of judging. 14. Goat Wethers and Market Does are eligible to sell with no weight restrictions. Wethers will be sold by the pound. 15. HERDSMAN AWARD - An award will be made for the most well-kept pens. This may be awarded to a family or individual since animals are penned together. There will be no age separation or limiting to one year winning. This will be a joint award with the Dairy, Meat, and Pygmy Goat project. 16. Record sheets must be turned in by noon on Monday to be allowed to show. If the 4-H er is taking more than one goat projects only one record sheet is required to be completed since they are the same record sheet. 17. The 4-H er, 4-H family member, or designated person must be present with animal for weigh-in and auction number drawing. Weigh-in for goat wethers will be on Monday following the sheep weigh-in. Wethers not weighed-in will not be allowed to show. No weigh-in for Pygmy Wethers. 18. If any animal medical concerns arise, please see barn chairman before proceeding with preventatives. 19. Any contagious medical condition should be brought to the species committee before unloading or as soon as it is noted. If the committee feels it is a contagious condition, the 4-H er will be given 2 options. They can take the animal home or have a Veterinarian come and diagnose the condition at the cost of the 4-H er. 20. No injections or drenching of goats without approval of a committee member. 21. FITTING RULE AT THE CASS COUNTY FAIR, THE 4-H ANIMAL EXHIBITOR MAY RECEIVE CLIPPING AND GROOMING ASSISTANCE FROM THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY WHICH IS DEFINED AS A FATHER, MOTHER, STEPFATHER, STEPMOTHER, LEGAL GUARDIAN, BROTHER, SISTER, STEPBROTHER, STEPSISTER, GRANDFATHER, GRANDMOTHER, STEPGRANDFATHER, STEPGRANDMOTHER, AUNT OR UNCLE. IN ADDITION, GROOMING ASSISTANCE CAN COME FROM ANY PAST/PRESENT CASS COUNTY 4-H ER, AND/OR 4-H DIRECTOR, 4-H COUNCIL MEMBER, 4-H LEADER, ANY CASS COUNTY GOAT COMMITTEE MEMBER OR FROM ANOTHER CURRENT INDIANA 4-H EXHIBITOR. 22. No overnight or daytime camping is allowed at the Cass County 4-H fairgrounds. 23. No cattle chutes in goat/sheep/lama barn B7USHOWMANSHIP - the first 5 places in each class to receive blue ribbons. Champion and Honor Group ribbons will be awarded in each class. Showmanship shall be the last class of the day for each breed. Showmanship animal must be enrolled by the 4-H er showing it and must have been shown in a previous class. NOTE When the 4-H Showman has won a showmanship class they MUST move to the next showmanship class the next year (not in the same year) EXCEPTION if the member wins Senior Showmanship, he/she will automatically move up into Master Showmanship division for the Master Competition, in the current year. 1. Showmanship:

3 Junior Grades 3-5 Intermediate Grades 6-8 and previous Junior winner. Senior Grades 9-12 and previous Intermediate winner. Master previous Senior Showmanship winners and Master Showmanship participants Senior winner is eligible to move up on show day. **Can only win with one breed of goat. NOTE: The Master Showman of all 3 species will compete in show off for the privilege to show in the Premier Showmanship and represent the Goat Projects. Winner of the Premier Goat showman (show-off) between Dairy, Boer, and Pygmy will select which breed of goat to be shown in Premier Showman. GOATS continued B01U DRESS CODE FOR EXHIBITING AND SELLING 4-H LIVESTOCK 4-H ers should dress appropriately for the 4-H livestock shows and 4-H livestock auction. Appropriate dress includes being neat and clean, no midriff showing, no shoulders showing, and no sandals. Commercial advertisement of names or insignia, farm names and family names on 4-H exhibitors or exhibits while showing, is prohibited. No low cut shirts or short shorts, no tank tops, no cleavage showing and no cracks showing. Violations could be subject to animal/4-h er dismissal from class. UAUCTION RULES: 1) If the 4-H member is not with their animal at the time their animal is scheduled to sell in the 4-H auction, then the 4-H auction animal will be scratched from the auction and will not have another chance to sell. The animal will be the responsibility of the family to remove from the fairgrounds by 6:00 p.m. Saturday of the fair. 2) For each 4-H item or animal that is sold in the auction, 10% of the premium will be assessed for the auction fee, with a maximum of $300 (auction fee). 3) Special recognition will not be given to the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Market Does as an auction entry. 4) See 4-H Auction Section for more auction details. ************************************************************************************************************************ DAIRY GOATS PROJECT CHAIRPERSON: Sherri Gehlhausen ( ) Members: Teresa Montgomery, Grant Montgomery, Luke Rusk, Stephanie Rusk, Evy Ingle, Marianne Ingle, Diana Adams, Mac McAninch, Becky Jackson, Brenda Rusk, Bekki Smith, Grethen Crum, Tommi Appleton, and Josh Cunningham 4-H Helpers: Mac Appleton, Nathan Adams, Ryan Adams, Brock Smith, Cole Appleton, Dalton J. All Dairy Does (milking and dry) must be accompanied by registration papers showing that the exhibitor owns the animal entirely, in family partnership, or leased animals. Animals must be of Purebred, American or Recorded Grade Stock. Senior Doe title stays with the doe. Doe may show in Dam and Daughter. 2. All dry stock must be under 2 years of age and never freshened. All milking does must be in

4 milk. 3. EXHIBIT CLASSES: Classes will be divided by breed, except wethers. A. Junior Kid-born on or after April 1, current year. Kids born after May 15 th, the dam must be registered and enrolled by May 15 th. B. Intermediate Kid born March 1 - March 31, current year C. Senior Kid born January 1 - February 28, current year D. Junior Yearling born June 1 - December 31, previous year Never fresh E. Senior Yearling one year and under two years Never fresh F. Doe 1 year and under 2 (milking) G. Doe 2 years and under 3 (milking) H. Doe 3 years and under 5 (milking) I. Doe 5 years and over (milking) J. Champion Challenge Previous Best Senior Doe in show winners. K. Wethers Only 3 wethers may be shown by any one exhibitor. These animals must be 100% dairy. Wethers must have milk teeth in place to be shown. L. Dam and Daughter - Animal MUST be shown in an above class, but both animals must be enrolled by the same 4-H member. DAIRY GOATS continued 4. Separate Dairy goat and Meat goat wether Rate of Gain contests will be conducted. 5. Dress code shall follow ADGA: White shirt with sleeves and White or Black pants are recommended. Shorts are not recommended for showing. 6. Milk out will be no earlier than 18 hours prior to show time and will be posted. 7. For a breed to be recognized and judged separately, there must be at least 3 animals dry or 3 animals milking and two (2) exhibitors showing the breed. All others will show in AOB class. 8. Best Senior Doe will be eligible to sell a block of goat cheese on a silver plated tray. (The tray will be furnished by the previous year winner. Trays are available for purchase from a trophy shop.) Goat milk will not sell in the 4-H Auction. If Best Senior Doe does not wish to sell, the Reserve has the option to sell the tray and cheese. If neither can or wish to sell, the cheese tray will sell and money donated to the fair for improvement of goat facilities. 9. Milking contest and milk-out times for the contest will be posted on Tuesday of the fair. 10. An exhibitor is limited to a maximum of 2 breeds with 2 entries per class and 1 entry in group classes, except a maximum of 3 wethers can be exhibited per exhibitor. Maximum number will be assigned at pen set, if warranted. This limitation is at the time of exhibition not enrollment. 11. NOTE: State Fair does require registration papers on does, also. Follow State Fair guidelines for

5 ownership rules. 1. Wethers must have a county tag. 2. EXHIBIT CLASSES: A) Registered Does will be broken into age appropriate class following state fair guidelines, however based on our county show date. Commercial does will be shown by weight. Percentage and Full-blooded animals will be shown in the same classes. NOTE: Registered Boer Does will be shown separate from Commercial Boer Does if numbers allow. B) Wethers will be broken into classes according to weight. They may be 100% Boer or Boer Crossbred animals. UWethers must have milk teeth in place to be shown. There will be three weight divisions: Light, Middle, and Heavy Weights. Champion and Reserve will show for Grand and Reserve Grand. C) Market Does will be broken into classes according to weight. They may be 100% Boer or Boer Crossbred animals. Must have milk teeth in place to be shown. NOTE: At May weigh-in date, all exhibitors must determine whether a doe is being exhibited as a commercial doe or a market doe. 3. General Grooming: Body Trimming/clipping is allowed but not required. 4. Any one exhibitor may exhibit a maximum of 10 does. 5. Any one exhibitor may exhibit a maximum of 3 wethers. 6. Any one exhibitor may exhibit a maximum of 3 market does. 7. Market Does can ONLY be shown in Market Doe classes. No ear tags are required for Pygmy Goat wethers. Every goat must have a permanent tattoo or microchip for identification. If ear tag is preferred by 4-H er then pick up a tag from the Extension Office. 2. Pygmy goats may be shown with or without horns. 3. Pygmy Goat Does and Wethers do not have to be registered. 4. EXHIBIT CLASSES: Classes will be divided by age similar to the State Fair. Registered and unregistered will show in the same class. Classes may be adjusted according to number of pygmy goats enrolled.
