They are a outstanding group that have been the fore runners in creating many events that will continue to grow in Barton County. May 1,was the last day to change a 4-H project. Let me or your club leader know if any changes need to be changed. Barton County Achievement Day will be held June 3, 2012 at the Lamar First Christian Church. Beginning at 1:00 pm The registration is enclosed. Please return the registration forms if you want a County 4-H T-shirt to be appreciated to make a $5.00 donation to Barton County 4-H. I need to have t shirt orders by May 20. The day will feature events of public speaking, fashion review, demonstration. personal development and 4-H project judging. Clover kids are encouraged to attend and participate in the club activities. A New additions in Public Speaking will be the 4-H Creed for ages 8 11 and the 4-H Pledge for Clover kids H members will also be able to QUALIFY in 2 events at SW Regional Achievement Day July 16, One event in public speaking, demonstrations, or personal development and one judging area. 4-H camp An African Safari is coming soon Barton county will be attending Camp 2. However, the 2012 schedule is posted. On line. The fair, set for July 27-August 4, is one day shorter and the schedule has been adjusted, so check your shows for new dates and times. Missouri State Fair Entries Online the Missouri State Fair now has their fair book posted on their website and are accepting entries for the 2011 fair. Most livestock entries are due postmarked by 7/2/2012. 3 SHOOTING SPORTS FUN SHOOTS Information 4-H Shooting Sports on Facebook 4-H Shooting Sports members, parents or leaders that are into social media are invited to visit the Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports page on Facebook. Take a look and Like to stay up to date on happenings regarding the state 4-H shooting program. Ozarks Shotgun Fun Shoot July 21, 2012 Ozark Shooters, Branson, MO 4-H shotgunners are invited to a fun day of shooting at Ozark Shooters, July 21. The fun shoot will include 25 Skeet, 25 Trap, and 25 Sporting Clays. State instructors and state team coaches will be on hand. Open to all 4-H members enrolled in the 4-H Shotgun project. Objectives: Introduce 4-H shooters in Southwest and South Central Missouri to the state team try-out process in hopes of recruiting more shooters for 2013 Determine if there is enough interest to merit adding a second set of state shotgun team try-outs in southern Missouri. State shotgun instructors/coaches will be on hand after the shoot to lead a discussion and Q & A period; specifically in regards to the state teams and the try-out process. Pre-register by July 13. A minimum of 10 pre-registered is required or the event will be cancelled. Details will soon be posted on the 4-H Shooting Sports website at WESTERN HERITAGE AND COWBOY SHOOTING June 29- July 1 Bolivar, MO Missouri 4-H is expanding the Western Heritage and Cowboy Shooting program to an additional 6-8 counties. County programs wishing to be part of the second phase of implementation must apply as a team of 2 or 3 volunteers. Participation will be limited again. Team applications are due June 1 and selected programs will be informed by June 5. A $30 per person fee will cover the curriculum resources, noon meals, and the ammunition used. Programs currently participating in the Western Heritage project are limited to 1 volunteer for this workshop. 5 Learn A Do 4-H Club Learn-A-Do 4-H held their April meeting, Saturday the 14th. Tony Morgan, Vice- President opened the meeting and Hannah Moyer gave the Treasures report. The members gave demonstrations over their projects. This gave us practice for Barton County Achievement Day. Those giving demonstrations were; Hannah Moyer- How to make a Strawberry Smoothie, Jerica Stahl-How to French Braid Hair, Tony Morgan- Seed Germination, Kalli Rowden-Benifits of Goat Meat and how to make goat meat chili, Lakin Stanley- How to make Dirt Cups, Braxtyn Muncy-How to make ants on a log, Jacey Stahl-How to make snickerdoodle cookies, Matthew Morgan- How to Set a live trap, and George Weber-How to show and prepare for a swine show. Everyone did a wonderful job. We are looking forward to our May demonstrations. Thanks to the Stanley and Winslow family's for refreshments. Our next meeting is Thursday, May 10th at 6:30 pm at the Wolf building. Reporter Mathew Morgan City Clovers 4-H Club On April 14th, the City Clovers 4-H Club held a cupcake walk at the opening day of Farmers Market to raise funds for the Lamar Animal Shelter. Despite the rain, the fundraiser was a big success. The next day, the Club held its monthly meeting. It was "Backwards Day", so everything was done in reverse order. Project demonstrations were given by Kenna Roland and Noah Shaw. On April 21st, Ryan Davis and Madison Crockett helped with the Barton County 4-H bake sale at the Earth Day booth at Farmers Market. This Saturday, May 5th, the City Clovers will have a booth at the Lamar square for Truman Days. They will be selling more raffle tickets for their quilt fundraiser. The quilt is a Lamar Tigers theme.
