1 Happy March Y'all! It may not feel like it, but spring is just around the corner and its time to start thinking about purchasing your animals for fair. Quality assurance classes will be held all month long. After spring break we will have more and mope workshops available. I am very excited about all the new things coming to Park County 4-H! I also love the many great traditions y'all have and hope to keep those alive. I look forward to seeing you all at workshops! MARCH/APRIL 2018 Park 4-H Newsletter 1

CLUB VISITS Council Members will be trying to start the new year off right with club visits. During these visits council members will come do a survey and visit with your club as to what the council does. 4 LEADERS/CLUBS Be Active Leaders please do not forget to enroll for the year at Please remember that every 5 years you are required to be rescreened and do some additional training. Every year leaders must complete the MVR (Motor vehicle check) If you need assistance completing the enrollment process and the required screenings please contact Tycee at or Rachel at Leaders will you be doing project specific meetings? 6 Showcase Showdown Preview Day April 28th from 10am-4pm in the Bicentennial Hall Come find out about all of the great contests that take place at Showcase Showdown in June. Tables will be set up with all of the contests information. Presentation Contest The Presentation Contest will be held this year on April 28th at 10am in Powell at the fairgrounds in the Extension Meeting Room. Awards at 4pm Presentations: Public speaking, interactive exhibits, demonstrations, skits, drama, visual aids and/or multimedia displays. Cloverbuds is a fun, educational program for children ages 5-7 by Jan. 1 of the current 4-H year. Cloverbuds lets young children learn about their world in a positive environment. Big Horn Basin 4-H Camp Counselors Food Cook Off Workshop April 3rd from 1pm-5pm in Powell at the fairgrounds Bicentennial Hall Kitchen. Learn how to prepare for a food cook off contest. More detail to follow. Watch Facebook, Instagram and Monday Messages. Produce Judging Practice Interested in Produce Judging? Watch for practices coming up in May and June. Dates and times to be announced soon. Reasons Workshop Come learn how to give reasons in any judging contest. The workshop will be on March 6th at 6:30pm at the fairgrounds in Powell in the Extension Meeting Room. Mini Horse Clinic Series Next clinic will be on March 28th at 6:30 at the fairgrounds in the Extension Meeting Room. This nights topic will cover diseases, vaccines, and worming. This program is available and beneficial to ALL HORSE members. Interested in being a camp counselor? There will be a conference call on April 12th at 6pm for those that are interested. 9 MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES Be Active YOUTH QUALITY ASSURANCE YQA is for any member showing any 4-H market animal. This REQUIREMENT ensures that you are raising a quality market animal to sell. YQA DATES: YQA 1: March 14th Powell~ 630pm in the Bicentennial fairgrounds YQA 1: March 15th Cody~ 5:30pm in the EOC courthouse YQA 2 & 3: March 20th Powell~ 6:30pm Level 2, 7:30pm Level 3 in the Extension Meeting fairgrounds YQA 2 & 3: March 21nd Cody~ 6:30pm Level 2, 7:30pm Level 3 in the EOC courthouse Meeteetse: March 22nd Level 1~5pm, Level 2~6pm, Level 3~7pm Location to be announced Youth Quality Assurance (YQA) teaches youth how to give the best care for their livestock in order to produce a high quality product for consumers. This is learned through understanding the importance proper nutrition, housing, identification, handling, carcass quality, health care, withdrawal times, and recordkeeping. All youth planning to sell a market project must complete YQA each year. This is NOT a Junior Livestock Sale Committee requirement. Below is a list of dates for all nutrition and YQA classes that will be offered this year. If members have gone through Pork check Off (PQA) or have completed the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) or have another quality assurance certification, that will meet your requirements. Members may also opt to take the course online at yqca.org. There is a $12.00 fee to take this course. If you would prefer to test out of YQA, an age and species appropriate test may be taken at either extension office. Youth must score an 80% or higher, and can retake the test (on a different day) as many times as they would like. Members scoring 100% (on the senior level test) will no longer need to complete YQA in future years. 10 MEMBER OPPORTUNITIES Be Active FAIR NEWS STILL TO COME! PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP The photography workshop will be rescheduled for sometime in March. Please be on the look out in the Monday Message or Social Media. All those signed up for the previous one we will notify you of date and time. Those who have already paid will be credited those fees to participate. DOG WORKSHOP Dog members be on the lookout for a dog workshop on July 18th. This will cover showmanship and possible agility and rally. LIVESTOCK WORKSHOP Livestock members be watching for a livestock workshop around the time of the Summer Sizzler on June 9th. Clinician will be covering nutrition, grooming and showmanship. New Opportunities for Fair 2018! Check out the fair book the first part of May for more details or call the fair office at Rate of Gain Contest Anyone interested in the rate of gain contest may participate as long as your animal is entered in the species market class. Watch for upcoming weigh in dates. Park County Bred and Fed Contest Any calf, swine, meat goat or lamb bred & fed in Park County is eligible! When purchasing your projects for this year s fair, consider keeping it local.
