Participation in any competition or shooting sports event is only permitted while meeting eligibility criteria under Texas Education Code No Pass No Play. Save the Date! Officer and Manager Training will be held on July 30, 2015 at 6p.m. At St. John s Lutheran Church on HWY 97 in Jourdanton. All managers and newly elected club officers are expected to attend! Awards Banquet The annual awards banquet will be held on August 1, 2015 at the Poteet High School Cafeteria. We are delighted to announce that the speaker this year is Ronnie McDonald, the first black A&M Yell leader and judge in Bastrop. He is an inspiring and educational speaker. Tickets $7.00 for parents, non-4-hers and guests. The price for 4-H members is $4.50. Due to the limited seating, we can not guarantee ticket availability at the door. Please purchase your tickets at the Extension Office or by mailing in a check by July 25th. We are asking that volunteers bring their favorite deserts to share. There will also be a silent auction to raise funds for the County Merit Scholarship. Please contact Sue Ann Smith ( ) or Debbie Ward ( to donate goods or services. The Council has chosen Alex s Lemonade Stand, a pediatric cancer charity, as the service project for this year. You may make a cash donation when you purchase your tickets or at the banquet and a portion of the funds raised in the silent auction will be donated Calling all Council Members and Ambassadors! On August 10, H Interpretation will be presented to Commissioner s Court at 8:30 am. Please come to the Extension Office at 8 am dressed appropriately. Worth Livestock Show, San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Star of Texas Fair in Austin, San Angelo Livestock Show, Sandhills Stock Show in Odessa, State Fair of Texas in Dallas, and Heart O Texas Fair in Waco). The verification process will require 4-H exhibitors to pass an online test that measures their knowledge on quality assurance and character education content items. All 4-Hers must take this test Quality Counts test and more information available at counts.tamu.edu 4-Hers that were intermediates last year and will be in the senior division this year must retake the test.

If you are planning to enter the fair, the deadline for entries is midnight August 18, 2015 for online entries. More information about entering and schedules can be found at or call the Extension office How much does it cost? 4-H has a participation costs of $20 (before November 1st of each year) to $25 (November 1st and after) to join. Some projects might cost something to get started like, if you want to do rabbits, you must provide the equipment, feed and purchase the rabbits. How old do you have to be? 4-H is for kids of almost any age. If you re in kindergarten, first grade, or second grade, you can be in Clover Kids. From third grade to age 19, you can be in 4-H. What is 4-HConnect? 4HConnect is a web-based system used to enroll youth and accept applications for adults in the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program. If you need more information, contact the Extension office at ! We are always glad to help! Remember the 4-H enrollment year begins August 15! If you are not registered now but want to join, wait until August 15!
4 FSA makes loans to individual youths to establish and operate income-producing projects of modest size in connection with their participation in 4-H clubs, FFA and similar organizations. Each project must be part of an organized and supervised program of work designed to provide practical business and educational experience. The project must be planned and operated with the help of the organization adviser and produce sufficient income to repay the loan. A Youth loan is available to young persons between the ages 10 and 20 years. The maximum loan amount is $5,000. Loan funds may be used to: Buy livestock, seed, equipment and supplies Buy, rent or repair needed tools and equipment Pay operating expenses for the project For more information you can go online to or you can contact our local FSA office at ACEE club members did well at the District Horse Show in Robstown on June 19. 5 Have a Hankering to Show? Intro to Livestock Showing Workshops will be held in August for those interested in showing but not sure how to proceed. Dale Rankin will be holding these workshops in the Extension Office. August 4 Intro to Sheep and Goats 6:30 pm August 25 Intro to Swine 6:30 pm He will discuss acquiring your animal, training, feeding and showing. Bring your questions! Young Farmers Rodeo Fundraiser Atascosa 4-H has been offered the opportunity to raise some money by running the concession at the Rodeo on August 14 and 15. Several members of the council have already volunteered but we need more help! Last year over $1, was raised, which really helps our budget. Please call or Michelle at the Extension office if you would like to help. Announcing New Project Group! Dale will be starting a new project group in August:: Wildlife and Fisheries. This group will explore activities such as wildlife biology, ecology, habitat management and recreational use, from observation to simple identification to management processes and the ethics of stewardship. Contact Michelle Pfeil at the Extension Office for more information! Dog Project Dog to the Bone We are meeting at the Rotary Building at the Strawberry Festival Grounds at 6pm. We will continue to meet during the summer. Meeting dates will be July 14 and 28 and August 11 and 25th. Please contact Michelle Pfeil at the Extension Office for more information, if you have questions about the project or would like to be added to the list. You do not need to own a dog to attend. Plant ID Consumer Decision Making Sewing Project The next meeting of the Beginner Sewing Project is July at St. John s Lutheran Church from 9 to noon. We have 3 machines in the office so if you do not own one at this time, you may borrow one of ours. Dru Benavides is the Agent and Paula White is the Project Leader.
