1 Crosby County 4-H Newsletter July /August 2016 The Crosby County Clover Texas 4-H Roundup State Competition Congratulations to the 21 Crosby County 4-Hers who competed at the Texas 4-H Roundup state contests in College Station, June Please see the enclosed attachment for contest results. Thanks to 4-H Parents who attended: Rosemary Chandler, David & Ronda Rendon, Angela Arthur, Sharon Wolfe, Ronda Smith, Jamie Swink and Heather Cornelius. Also a big thank you to Caroline McLaren, our summer intern. The Crosby County Clover is published by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service-Crosby County Caitlin Jackson CEA-Ag/NR Crosby County Melode Watson CEA-FCS Crosby County State Senior Photography Results Congratulations to Cielo Farley, Rachel Taylor and Hunter Wolfe for competing in the Senior Photography Contest. Their photos were submitted online in April and displayed at State Roundup in June. Cielo received Red Ribbon for Nature & Landscape; Rachel received Blue Ribbon for Plant/Flora & Participant Ribbon for Night Photography; Hunter received White Ribbon for Catch All, White Ribbon for People and Participant Ribbon for Animals-Domestic. Texas 4-H Council Member Montana Chandler ran for district council officer during the District 2 Mixer at Texas 4-H Roundup. She was elected District 2 4-H Council Delegate at Large and will serve on the Texas 4-H Council. Congratulations, Montana! Senior level recordbooks that win at the district level will be judged at the state level competition August 1. We appreciate all of the hard work that this year s participants have put into their recordbooks and their accomplishments. Crosby County 4-H Horse Project Crosby County Horse Playdays are scheduled for Sunday evenings starting at at the Ralls Lions Club Rodeo Arena. Activities will include time events and short educational program. Always Call before you haul, Angela Arthur District Show Jadeyn Arthur and Nikki Wolfe competed at the District 4-H Horse Show June 13 & 14 in Lubbock. They competed in Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Stock Horse Trail, Pleasure, Reining, Poles, Barrels, Stakes. Jadeyn will advanced to Texas Show July 23 thru 29 in Abiliene. Congratulations to Jadeyn and Nikki and Best of Luck to Jadeyn at the State Show!!! Rabbit Project If you are interested in rabbits contact Angela Arthur. South Plains Fair Rabbit Show will be 9/20-10/1. Anyone needing help with entries please contact Angela. District Leadership Camp Crosby County 4-H Fireworks Stand Thanks to everyone who worked the Crosby County 4-H Fireworks Stand! Funds will be used for upcoming Crosby County 4-H activities. We would like to thank the Wolfe Family for the use of their RV and staying overnight at the stand. Once again a big THANK YOU to everyone to help make this fundraiser a big success. Jadeyn Arthur and Cassidy Lane served as camp counselors at the District Leader Lab at South Plains College in Levelland. This is a very big honor. They were responsible for all aspects of the camp! Look for the opportunity next year to apply! Ralls Rodeo Parade The Ralls Lions Club Rodeo is August The parade will be Friday, August 19th. If you would like to head up the Crosby County 4-H to have a float please contact the Extension Office and let Sue know ASAP!

3 Fair Dates West Texas Fair, Abilene - Sept South Plains Fair, Lubbock - Sept 23- Oct 1 State Fair, Dallas-Sept. 30-Oct. 23 Entry Deadline: August 8th! If you would like to enter any of the fairs or need more information, please contact the Extension Office. Crosby County 4-H Golf Scramble The Golf Scramble will be August 13! Registration at 8am. If you know a golfer, please pass the info to them! This is a great fundraiser for the club! If you have any contacts with businesses please ask them to donate a door prize or sponsor a hole. Contact the office for more information. 4-H Food & Nutrition Lamb/Goat Projects If you are interested in acquiring lambs or goats for next year s shows please contact Caitlin or the Crosby County Extension Office by August 19. All Tags must be pre-ordered and paid for before the order will be mailed for this next year. Validation will be completed by the end of October. Congrats to the Senior Team (Montana Chandler, Grace Cavazos, Georgia Norman, Samantha Mayo, and Cielo Farley)! They were State Champions in the Nutritious Snacks division at Texas 4-H Roundup and qualified to compete at the National 4-H at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas in October. Congrats ladies! Bob Benson Memorial/4-H EXCELL Golf Tournament The tournament is scheduled for August 15 at the Plainview Country Club. Funds raised will go to: The Bob Benson Memorial 4-H Scholarship - Fifty percent of the proceeds are used to fund the scholarship. The 4-H EXCELL Scholarship - The remaining fifty percent is used to fund travel for South Plains 4 -H members who have qualified for National 4-H activities. EXCELL is an acronym for EXperience, Citizenship, and Examples for Lifetime Leadership. Please call the extension office for more information. Be watching the Crosby County 4-H Facebook page for announcements about upcoming Food and Nutrition activities. Food and Nutrition project meetings will begin in September. Parents, do you like to cook or are you interested in nutrition? We are in NEED of Food and Nutrition project leaders. Melode will provide the training and all the materials and supplies. Crosby County 4 H Enrollment The H year starts September 1. Enrollment will be begin mid August. Everyone will have to re enroll and $20 registra on fee will be due when you sign up.
