3 COUNTY NEWS Raffle Ticket Fundraiser Earnings Thank you to everyone who sold raffle tickets to raise money to support our annual 4-H Awards Banquet! Also, thank you to everyone who supplied items to put in the baskets. We raised $1,250! Page 3 A HUGE thank you to Brianna Ryan who sold $400 worth of raffle tickets! She went above and beyond! Smoke detectors are being provided free of charge and volunteer help is available to install them into your home by the County Fire Marshall s office. Contact the County Fire Marshall s office if you are interested at Changes from State Office on Grade/Age Requirements effective this New 4-H Year Changes in Age / Grade Requirements for 4-H. Effective with the new 4-H Year signup (August 15, 2015 to September 30, 2016) Texas 4-H will have new membership eligibility based on SCHOOL GRADE and not age. The new eligibility rules and guidelines are: Youth may participate in 4-H year from September 1st of grade three through August 31 following completion of grade twelve, with these age restrictions: Minimum age - 8 (in addition to being in the 3rd grade) Maximum age - 18 (as of August 31, 2015) 4-H Member Categories Juniors: Grades 3, 4, and 5 Intermediates: Grades 6, 7, and 8 Seniors: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12

For a show schedule and other pertinent information, visit Page 5 LIVESTOCK NEWS By Sam Womble CEA, AG/NR Project Support I m available to assist you with your livestock projects should you have questions or need help. Please call the Extension Office at Livestock Project Reminders With summer here, it s important to pay particular attention to your animal projects. Below are a few tips: - Try to avoid major changes to your feed ration. Any changes should be made slowly over the course of several days. Be consistent with your feeding schedule and amount each day. - Keep the dust down in your pens to avoid problems with pneumonia. - Clean pens/stalls daily to manage mosquitoes. - Keep projects under fans and keep them cool. - A clean, fresh supply of water is a MUST. Check troughs/water buckets daily. - Control parasites as appropriate. Project Meetings If you have suggestions for livestock project meetings you d like to see offered this fall, please pass along your ideas.
