2 Thoughts For The Month With Megan P A G E 2 Summer Time This time of year brings with it the end of school, longer days, ICE CREAM, & all the fun that summers usually bring. This year, as you have heard, we will be hosting 2 camps for our youth to participate in. These camps will be full of fun, laughs, learning, & 4-H (of course!). You may not know what these camps will entail, so here are descriptions of each. Don t miss out on these great opportunities! Stitch it Up Sewing Camp: June 30 This camp will be held at the Navarro County Expo Center. We are co-hosting this camp with Navarro County! This camp will be a 1-day camp focused on all things sewing! We will also participate in a huge community service project at the end of this camp. Specifics: 3 rd -6 th graders from Ellis & Navarro County, 9:00-?, Megan will be driving the van from Waxahachie for those wanting to attend this camp, bring a sack lunch. County Camp: July This 2-day camp will feature 6 different project areas: Foods & Nutrition, Robotics, Leadership, Rocketry, Fashion, & Ag Product ID. We will play a lot of games and get to know our fellow 4-H members better! We will also learn more about 4-H. This camp will be hosted by the County Council officers. Specifics: 3 rd -6 th grade students, 9:00am-12:00pm, open to Ellis County 4-H members, $10 per camper. Chef Camp: July This 2-day camp is all things cooking! We will go on a culinary adventure to learn all aspects of cooking, food safety, food challenge, and other nutrition information, all while having a blast! Of course, we will get to sample as we go J There will be games, teamwork, and, of course, a lot of cooking! Specifics: 3 rd -6 th grade students in Ellis & Navarro Counties. 9:00am-3:00pm, *you will need to bring your lunch each day, open to all 3 rd -6 th grade students (4-H & non-4-h), $10 for 4-H members, $15 for non-4-h members,*will most likely be held in Ennis, Registration ends on July 9 th! Club Officer Workshop: August 3 rd or August 8 th Each club officer will need to attend this workshop. We will learn about working together as a team, communicating with each and our club, running meetings, & have a ton of fun along the way! Each officer is asked to attend one of the days; you do not need to attend both days. (Club Managers: This is a great time to meet with your club officers to plan out your year).

If you are a Council delegate or a president of your club, you need to be here to represent your club. 5 P A G E 5 4-H COUNTY COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENTS All 4-H Council Members are encouraged to attend all council meetings and help with planning and conducting of county workshops, trainings, and events. You are the role models for younger 4-Hers. And, we need your help! Below is a list of events for council members to put on their calendar. 6 P A G E 6 END OF YEAR FORMS DEADLINE As this 4-H year is winding down there are several important documents that we encourage you to complete. We want to recognize all the work and learning that have taken place this year and we can t do that without your help. Please complete and turn in a Project Record Form for EVERY project you completed this year. If you meet the requirements for an award, complete the form and turn it in! If you don t know about the awards, talk to your club manager. Seniors, remember to complete a scholarship application and turn it in. (See article on page 2) Most of these forms are on the county website at under the Publications tab. All projects, awards, record books and scholarships are recognized in the program at the 4-H Banquet in August. Don t forget to turn in all project record forms, award forms, record books, and scholarship applications before June 17 th at 3pm! Available RECORDBOOK COVERS Green recordbook covers may be purchased at the office for $3 each. COUNTY WORKSHOP: Aladdin Cost $25.00 Join us for a workshop full of shimmering splendor. Focus will be on Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Creative Arts, Public Speaking, Fashion, & Team Building. A series of guest instructors will guide youth through the full scope of producing a theatrical production, in this hands on workshop. *If you would like to AUDITION for a role in the production, please prepare best 16 bars from a musical selection of your choice. 8 P A G E 8 ART MANIACS 4-H CLUB The Club with No Name, is now officially, The "Art Maniacs". The "Art Maniacs" County Workshop Series will continue with a Summer Workshop Series. Stay tuned for more information. The Choir Workshop ended with a recital, for the families and others, to hear what the choir had learned. Everyone was impressed. The choir did a great job. Thank you, to David Curry, for teaching and conducting the choir. Our weekly Art Workshop has also ended. We learned points of perspective, shading, ways of being more creative and much more. Thank you, Dell Reed, for teaching and helping us to improve our art. Susie Ragsdale won the drawing contest associated with this workshop. She won an Art Kit. In our meeting, each member told about the failures of a famous person before he or she became a success. This was our leadership assignment. We learned to not give up. In other news, Gabrielle Brown won 1st Place, for Share-the-Fun, at County Level and District Level. She is going to State RoundUp. Congratulations! Secretary, Zachary Brown

Silver Spurs 4-H Club have been busy this Spring despite the mud and rain which interferes with horse kid plans! Below are just a few of the things we have been up to. Stay tuned! * District Horse Judging at Texas A&M: First place junior team with Parys Bishop, Sadie Hinz, Avery Newsom and Gentry Rogers! Sadie also earned 4th high point individual and Gentry 5th high point individual. Second place intermediate team with Jacob Ingram, Alyssa Ingram, Megan Newsom and Autumn Wells! Jacob also won 4th high point individual. * County Round Up- Sadie Hinz, Autumn Wells, and Gentry Rogers won first place in Educational Presentation - Horse. * Pole Bending Clinic - We had a great turn-out and learning experience at our May monthly meeting with a pole bending clinic taught by local trainer Amy Andresen. We really appreciate it when professionals donate their time and experience with us! * Good luck to all of our Silver Spurs who will be competing this summer at the District Horse Show in Belton, State Hippology at State Round-Up, and attending Horse Judging Camp at Texas A &M! *We are wrapping up our meetings on June 6 with hippology practice and a mounted clinic on the 4-H Stakes Race taught by former Silver Spur and horse trainer Jacqulayn Cawley.

10 P A G E 10 ALL 4-HIM 4-H CLUB The All-4-Him 4-H Club met on May 22 nd at the Church of Christ on Country Club Road in Ennis, TX, for our final meeting of the year. First, our spring semester was reviewed with photos in a PowerPoint presentation. Second, Avery Jones gave his senior 4-H project presentation on Wildlife & Fisheries. Third, our club awards were handed out to our members. After that, our new officers for were elected. (See the following list of officers.) Some 4-H training was given, and then photos were taken outside. (See below for photos of our officers and of our club.) To finish up our meeting, everyone had a candy treat! I m hoping that a lot of our members will turn in their Project Record Forms (PRFs), Record Books, and award applications on Wednesday, June 17 th, to the Extension Office. Our club has no graduating seniors this year, so no ALA-Scholarship applications will be turned in. Have a blessed summer, All-4-Him 4-H and Ellis County 4-H!
