( S e e I n s i d e f o r R e s u l t s ) Duds to Dazzle STATE ROUND UP District Fashion Show The State Roundup meeting will be held on May 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the Annex. We will discuss travel, what to take, and complete the necessary hard copy forms. Camp Date: June 27-June 30, 2016 Camp Location: Aspendale Mountain Retreat Center, Cloudcroft, New Mexico Camp Fee:$175 Contact: Joan or Mike at (Registration will be open via 4-H Connect, June 1-June 21, 2016) The objectives of 4-H POWER Camp is to adopt and apply the latest practices and research findings to everyday living, develop self-confidence through leadership, Strengthen local 4-H units by becoming involved in leadership responsibilities and encouraging other youth to do so, develop positive character traits, sportsmanship, decision making capability, and public speaking skills through participation in 4-H activities. Workshop sessions will be on wiring, safety, and renewable resources and energy efficiency. 4-H members should have completed 8th to 12th grade in the school year. There is no county quota. We have room for 50 campers and they will register on a first come, first serve basis. Texas 4-H Congress Texas 4-H Congress is a four-day mock legislative experience for 4-H members who will be in 9th through 12th grade for the school year, also eligible to attend are 4-H youth who graduated high school in the spring of During this time, 4-H members assume the roles of senators, representatives, lobbyists, press corps, and special interest groups to gain a first-hand understanding of how the legislative process works. Bills that are written and sponsored by a 4-H member focus on issues concerning Texas and Texas youth. Those bills are assigned to the appropriate committee, debated in committee meetings, and delivered to the Governor of Texas 4-H Congress for his or her signature or veto. Copies of all the bills that are signed into law during Texas 4-H Congress are provided to the Office of the Governor for review. Deadline for registration is May 28th. Keep in mind, the county can only send 2 delegates, so if you are interested, please call Joan or the office at
3 P a g e 3 Photography Project The Photography Project will meet on Thursday, May 12th and Thursday, May 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Gray County Annex. Dog Project The Dog Project will meet on Thursday, May 5th at the Annex building (NO DOGS) at 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday, May 18th at the Bull Barn at 6:30 p.m. Deadline to register for the Texas 4-H Dog Show is May 9, Shotgun Project The Shotgun Project will meet every Tuesday night at the Pampa Trap & Skeet Range located east of the Bull Bars at 5:00 p.m. You must have your own shotgun and ear and eye protection. The NRA grant we received has allowed us to be able to furnish two boxes of shells per week/per child. Anything additional must be provided on your own. CLUB NEWS Clover Kids The Clover Kids will meet Monday, May 16th at 6:00 at the Annex. Bring your bicycles and what you signed up to bring to the cookout!! North Fork 4-H Club The North Fork 4-H Club will meet on Tuesday, May 17th at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H Park. We will be having an ice cream social, so call the office and sign up to bring something for the social. The Soaring Eagles The Soaring Eagles 4-H Club will meet Wednesday, May 11th at 2:30 at the Grandview Hopkins cafeteria. The Lefors Pirates The Lefors Pirates 4-H Club will meet later in May. Contact the office for time and location.
4 Council Meetings 4-H YOUTH COUNCIL The 4-H Youth Council will meet on Sunday, May 1st at 5:00 p.m. at the Annex. We will be looking at several summer activities and it is important for all council members to attend! PARENT/LEADER COUNCIL The Parent-Leaders Council will meet July 6:30 at the Annex. We will be working on next years budget. FISHIN N FUN Fishin N Fun will be held June 13th and 14th at Mesa Vista Ranch, Cottonwood Lake. The camp will teach basic fishing instructions and have a fishing tournament to introduce youth to the long-life sport of fishing and outdoor recreation. All participants must be in 3rd grade September 1, Clover kids (8 years of age and under) must be accompanied by older 4-H sibling and parents. Vet Science will meet May 9th at 6:30 in the Gray County Annex. We will be discussing Emergency Preparedness for our animal friends. Be ready if disaster strikes! See you there!
5 Team Eagle National Rifle Association Qualification Awards Three Gray County Eagle shooter members were presented with awards during the past several months. All qualifications were under the auspices of the American Rifleman Air Rifle, 10 Meter, 3-position course of fire. The American Rifleman qualification program is a progressive course of fire requiring shooters to meet nationally defined scoring criteria in each of the prone, kneeling, and standing positions. 6 4 - H F u t u r e s a n d F e a t u r e s Gray County rocked at the District Big Fun in D1 4-H Spring Roundup Fashion Show! Emily Robertson placed first in Intermediate Construction Casual and Natural Cotton Fibers. Jacee Sellers placed first in Intermediate Construction ReFashion. Kaitlyn Hart Placed third in Senior Buying Formal, Savanna Sellers placed first in Junior Buying Dressy. Victoria Swift placed first in Intermediate Buying Fashions under $25 and Tony Soria placed fourth in Junior Buying Casual and tied for fourth in Cotton Natural Fibers. Gray County 4-H also represented in the Spring Roundup Duds to Dazzle contest by the Intermediate team, Emily Robertston, Victoria Swift, Jacee Sellers, and Izaak Lee, who placed first in the non-wearable category. The Junior team, made up of Joshua Lee, Tony Soria, and Savannah Sellers, competed in the wearable category, placing 6th. Victoria Swift placed 3rd in storyboard and Izaak Lee and Joshua Lee also competed in Intermediate Storyboard. Gray County 4-H was also represented by three teams at the District Big Fun in D1 4-H Spring Roundup Educational Presentations. Senior Team, Jacee Baten and Rose Noyes placed second earning a trip to State Roundup. Intermediate Team, Kellie Mae Davis, Jacee Sellers and Lexi Rosser placed first. Junior Team, Savannah Sellers and Tony Soria placed second. Great job and Congratulations to all who participated!! County Fashion Show The Gray County 4-H Fashion Show was held on Friday, April 1 with youth participating in Construction and Buying Divisions. Pictured are our own 4-H Club s Savannah Sellers, Victoria Swift, Jacee Sellers, Emily Robertson, and Tony Soria. Kaitlyn Hart also competed at District Fashion Show.
