For those who didn t make it to the workshop you can visit the website below for a description of the categories: Rules: The categories for the Texas 4-H Photography have changed for the contest. The categories are: 1. Animals - Domestic 2. Animals - Wildlife 3. Catch All 4. Details & Macros 5. Dominant Color 6. Elements of Design 7. Enhanced 8. Food 9. Landscape & Nature (non-animal) 10.Motion/Action 11. People 12. Plant/Flora 13. Sports 14. Theme (2018 theme is Backyard ) 15. Travel & Place FOOD & NUTRITION Food Show - Monday, Oct. 30 5:00 at Sunset Center (behind 4-H office and 1 block over) Must call the office or Jacque to register for this contest by Wednesday, Oct. 25. Please provide the category and age division (see info below) Thank you Courtney Rowan for helping organize activities for the members during the food show. There will be 4 categories: 1. Protein, 2. Grain, 3. Fruits and Vegetables, 4. Dairy There are also 4 age divisions: 1. Beginner (Clover Kids) -K thru 2 nd grade 2. Junior 3 rd thru 5 th grade 3. Intermediate 6 th thru 8 th grade 4. Seniors 9 th thru 12 th grade Individuals will prepare a recipe at home. Bring ONE SERVING on a disposable plate to the contest to present to the judges. The theme this year is FRESH FROM THE FARM. Senior contestants need to be able to explain how their dish relates to the theme and prepare a speech (no longer than 3 minutes) answering the following questions. Judges will interview junior and intermediate contestants with the following questions: 1. What are the parts of MyPlate? Where does your dish fit into MyPlate? 2. What are two main nutrients in your dish? What do they do for your body to keep you healthy? 3. What is something new that you learned in preparing your dish? What was the most difficult part of preparing this dish? 4. What is a food safety step that you took in preparing your dish? How would you safely store the leftovers of your dish? 5. What is something new that you learned in your food project his year? Winners are eligible to compete in Abilene at the District 7 Food Show, but must sign up on 4-H Connect the same day. (District is November 16) Nutrition Quiz Bowl Game show format using: American Dietary Guidelines, Food Safety, Cookery Principles, and Choose My Plate information

3 Deadline to enter on 4-H Connect is Oct 23. is November 7. Call the office as soon as possible if you want to be on a team! Food Challenge- Group of 3 to 5 must prepare a recipe from ingredients that are placed on their table for the contest. Group presents their dish to the judges and also presents info on food safety, food preparation principles, nutrient content and functions, ChooseMyPlate, and cost analysis. Call when you have your team together so we can schedule a practice in November. Each team needs to designate at least 1 team mom (or dad) to travel to the District competition with them. The District contest is January 24 in San Angelo. CLOVER KID FOOD CHALLENGE November 6 (Tentative Date) Call the office if you want to participate.. MCCULLOCH 4-H -COUNTY WIDE EVENT & 4-H ONE DAY Food Drive: Trick of Treat for Helping Hands on Sunday, Oct 29. Meet at 5 for meeting at Heart of Texas Event Center. This Club is for ALL 4-H members in the county. TRACTOR SUPPLY PAPER CLOVER CAMPAIGN Co. is hosting the on October 4-15 to help raise funds for 4-H. Clubs are invited to come by, set up a booth and help promote the sales. Please call the Extension Office to sign up after school to go to and help sell s. Each year for about 5 years we have received from $600 to $1200 from this extraordinary effort from TSC! Guadalupe Results: Post next month Next Judging contests: Oct. 8 Heart of Texas Judging in Waco, Oct. 10 State Fair of Texas Judging in Dallas Oct. 14 Hill Country Judging in Mason HOT Judging, Nov. 18, 2017 LIVESTOCK PROJECTS AND VALIDATION Projects will need to be purchased before validation County Validation dates: LIVESTOCK SHOW VALIDATION DATES- If you plan to show at the County Show or Majors you must validate your animal. Just a reminder to get your livestock animals. Validation will be Sunday Oct. 22, 2-4 pm at Brady High Ag Building. If you miss that one there will be one more on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 5:00-6:00 pm. Swine Validation will be in November. If you are interested in showing Single Fryer Meat Rabbits, please call the Extension Office to sign up. 4-H Major and County Show entries will be due to the Extension Office on Friday, Nov. 17. Everyone showing at County level must validate their animal and turn in an entry form. Entry Forms will be available in the Extension Office. McCulloch County Jr. LiveStock Show January 04, 05, 06, NATIONAL 4-H WEEK Anyone who wishes to make a Public Service recording to air on the radio and about our ONE DAY 4-H Events, needs to pick up a script from the office to take to the radio station. Please call to let them know when you are coming. This week, 4-H members from across the nation are celebrating their organization. The theme for this year s National 4- H Week is 4-H Grows Here. The celebration recognizes that 4-H grows here regardless of where you are. We re looking at the 4-H program and realizing that regardless of where a young person is, if they re in an urban area or our most rural area, young people are growing through 4-H. They re learning life skills. They re developing new leadership skills, and they re truly becoming the citizens of tomorrow for our country, our state and our communities, Dr. Toby Lepley, Texas assistant 4-H leader for Operations in College Station, said in an interview with Tom Nicolette on the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Radio Network. In Texas, there are a little over 50,000 youth in their community 4-H clubs. Another 550,000 youth are involved in 4-H through other activities and special interest projects like Ag in the Classroom and the Junior Master Gardener program.
