7 Food for Them $$ for Us! The Atascosa County Farm Bureau is observing Texas Food Connection 2016 the week of April 8-15, Texas Food Connection is a way of sharing what we do on our farms and ranches to grow our food and fiber. Because food connects everyone we work hard to provide food for everyone - rural or urban, rich or poor. We are offering a community service activity for the county 4-H clubs - a non perishable food collection - the items collected will be donated to CAM in Poteet - basically only type of food bank in area. A donation will be made to the County 4-H program in honor of the club that collects the most non perishable foods in pounds. Food can be left at the Extension Office by Friday, April 15 and it will be delivered to Rev. Jones at CAM on Monday, April 18. Atascosa will be attending County Camp III 7

9 Calf Roping & Breakaway School Come Learn all about 4-H Recordbooks Luis Saldana, District 12 4-H and Youth Development Extension Program Specialist, will present a countywide Recordbook Workshop on April 5, 2016 at the County Extension Office in Leming at 6:00p.m. What is a Texas 4-H Recordbook? A recordbook consists of information that a 4-H member records over the course of a 4-H year that documents his/her goals, knowledge and skills gained, leadership experiences, awards earned, and service in his/her community. Those experiences are recorded into forms, narratives, and a story written by the 4-H member. The information is printed, bound in a cover, and is typically submitted for evaluation. Recordkeeping is a valuable skill taught to members of the Texas 4-H program. Members are encouraged to keep project records and have these records reviewed annually by submitting a Texas 4-H Recordbook. The primary purposes of completing a recordbook are for a young person to develop the skills necessary to set goals, work toward achieving those goals, reflect on his/her experiences, and set new and higher goals for themselves. A secondary benefit is to prepare young people for the process of completing quality academic scholarship applications. 9
