3 C o m m o d o r e s R e p o r t It s hard to believe that summer is already here! We had some good weather and great events at the Club in May. Leslie and I have really enjoyed coming in from the water and joining friends at the Anchor Bar. I continue to hear very positive feedback from the members about the improvements to the Club, and we ve seen a surge in Club usage over the past month. I m confident this will only continue and grow as we enter our peak summer season. With the kids out of school for the summer, treat yourself to a night out at the Club. In addition to our regular dinner service on Wednesday and Friday, we ll be serving food downstairs every day of the week from 11:00 am to 8:30 pm through Labor Day. Skip the trip to the grocery store and the troubles of cooking and come try out our new menu, have a swim, and enjoy the sunset. Remember that swim team and sailing season mean that we ll be hosting visitors from time to time. Please make sure that your vehicles have a current GYC sticker. I look forward to seeing you at the Club! 4 G e n e r a l M a n g e r s R e p o r t Gulfport Yacht Club has a Text App. To join the App simply send a text message to 51660, type in GYC and hit send. You will receive a message quickly afterwards asking to join, type YES and hit send. It s that simple and you will be ready to receive the Clubs text messages. We are currently sending out over 170 text messages to our members who have signed up already. Don t miss the fun, download the App today! Every year when school lets out and we get in to the bulk of the summer I mention SAFETY. It is very important for all members to take caution, drive slowly when entering and exiting the property. We have several families with small children running around enjoying the pool, beach, boating, and activities at the club. It only takes a split second for an unforeseen accident to happen. Also, no kids are allowed to climb on the rocks by the beach. There are very sharp objects that could potentially cause harm to the child. No running on the dock & piers and no swimming allowed in the boat harbor. Last but not least, when dining in the clubhouse remind your children no running is allowed and you must have a shirt and shoes on. The new Anchor Bar is rocking and rolling. We have set record sales for the month of May. Member services and usage are a huge factor of a successful club operation. We have recently completed numerous projects and upgrades to our facility. One item that has been discussed in detail is building a Splash Pad for the children. We believe this would be a GREAT addition to the club and set us apart from all others. We have surveyed 2018 Pool & Deck Party Policy The Anchor Bar is Open 7 days a week from 11:00am to 8:30pm. You must purchase food and beverage from the Club, no food or beverages are allowed to be brought in. You may order from the Anchor Bar Menu, Catering Menu or we have pizzas (cheese, pepperoni or sausage) available for $7.00 each. You may bring in your cake for birthday parties. The Deck Fee is $50.00 and Lifeguard Fee is $80.00 per guard for GYC Members. several members about this idea and have received an overwhelming positive result. Being in club management for 30 years, I have witnessed the most success at clubs comes from continuous Member Support. Let s face it, this is your Home Away from Home. To date, we have had a few very generous members offer to donate to the cost of the project. We have collectively been promised at least half of the $30,000 plus project cost. If you are interested in donating to this project or have questions please contact me at your convenience. Thank you in advance for your continued support in helping us reach our targeted goal of being the elite Yacht Club on the Gulf Coast. If you are or know someone hosting a private event this year and are in search for a venue please, have them contact our professional staff. The club offers a first class facility with quality product, top notch service and plenty of parking for large events on our 3rd floor. We also do catering trays and boating food to-go for your convenience. Our GYC famous Seafood Gumbo is a great item to take to any outside event. If interested in ordering contact the office at , ext 306. See you at the Club, Steve Chatelain General Manager Breakfast served every Saturday 8am to 11am Best Biscuit Sandwich in Town!!

5 L a d i e s A u x i l i a r y R e p o r t With summer s long days being here, this is the best time to be at our Yacht Club. There is always so much to do during this time of the year. The Yacht Club looks so good with all of the improvements that have been made. Our May Luncheon was one of the ladies favorites. We were treated to a summer wine tasting. Brian Hollis of Republic Nations Distributing Company entertained the ladies with the history of the wines he presented. And the wine tasting was enjoyed by all present. Our Chef, Jason, did it again by providing us with a delicious lunch. We had Caesar Salad with house made dressing. The entrees were pan seared redfish with a citrus beurre blanc sauce and grilled chicken breast with mushroom cream. Wild rice, steamed asparagus and toasted mini baguettes finished out the meal. And, of course, there were many different desserts. The Day of Wine and Roses was the theme for the May Luncheon. Jana Jarrell and Ruthie Kennedy were our hostesses. They did a wonderful job transforming the room into a beautiful setting. Glass vases with roses were on each table. These centerpieces were our door prizes. Many happy ladies left the luncheon with their winnings. June 27th is our annual Mother/Daughter Luncheon. This luncheon is very popular. Mothers, Daughters, Grandmother, Aunts, Nieces, Neighbors, Friends and Youngsters look forward to this day. They always enjoy their time together. Come join us that day for fun and friendship. Be sure to make your reservations with camilleswilliams@gmail.com or Mayor Billy Hewes has confirmed that he will be giving our program on July 19th at 6 o clock p.m. It is titled A State of Gulfport. It should be a very interesting night, with lots of information for us. We are still having our Membership Drive. Be sure to attend each Luncheon to receive your FREE Raffle Ticket for a $500 credit on your 2019 GYC account. See you at the club! It is the fastest boat in North America and the conditions were perfect for the team during the week. They smashed the around the island record and would have a first place finished in every race except for a minor error in the first race. In 20kts of breeze the boat would sail 12.5kts upwind and 22kts downwind. While he was down there he found two potential regattas for our kids to participate in where they will provide the boats. - ALL HANDS ON DECK! The weather finally allowed us to squeeze in a fishing tournament with our first evening trout shootout on May 17th. We had a good group of 25 fishermen and some nice trout hit the scales. Top honors went to Hank Lomax for the biggest trout with a 4.1 lb fish, Sam Vasquez followed with a 3.35 lb trout and Sam Day was third with a 3.15 lb fish. The team stringer award went to Team Headin South with a 5 fish stringer weighing in at lbs. The new Anchor Bar really made for a great event as everyone was able to order food, swap fish stories and watch offshore lighting storm from the deck. What a great addition to the club! Be sure to get in on the action on June 7th or June 28th as we plan to keep up these easy evening events. The Ship Island Rendezvous is set for Saturday, May 26th at the east end of West Ship Island. This is always one of the most fun events of the year so be sure to bring a full crew to enjoy some island life, grilled burgers and hot dogs and a great day on the water with other GYC members. The GYC big boat crew will kick off the month with the Chandeleur Rendezvous June 1-3. Boats will meet up in Little Smack on Friday for a little friendly competition to determine who will be crowned the Trout King for Will Tony Caranna defend his crown? Can he really make it rain? These questions will be answered in June. New for the event this year will be a boat competition to determine which boat has the crew with the most skills. The annual Shannon Waller Fishing Regatta will take place on June 23rd. This is always a fun tournament with multiple categories. Shannon was always a strong supporter of getting GYC members on the water to go fishing and we look forward to another great event. Be sure to check the Facebook page and s for details and get signed up. Finally, we moved our Inaugural Ladies Fishing Tournament to July 21st due to numerous conflicts in May. This is a team event for the ladies and a great chance for our lady anglers and boaters to have a little fun on the water. Get your teams together ladies! To register for tournaments, check for a sign-up sheet in the bar or call Johnny Marquez at (228) to register. We hope to see you at these events in June.
