Thanks to Nancy Cook s organizational skills, this trip exceeded all expectations. We booked 4 catamarans through the Moorings ranging from 39 to 48 and they came well equipped, complete with generators, air conditioning and GPS. Our daily cruises ranged from 7 to 20 miles with consistent 15 to 20 knot breezes and the temperatures ranged in the low to mid 80 s every day. Most days were full of sunshine with an occasional shower that did not linger. Yes, we did enjoy reading about the snow and freezing temperatures back home. We flew from Belize City to Placencia where we boarded our yachts and headed out to the islands inside the second largest barrier reef in the world. Apparently this area is like the BVI s 50 years ago. The water was crystal clear, warm and ideal for snorkeling, scuba and fishing. We feel fortunate to have been able to enjoy this trip before the cruise ships arrive and they are on their way. They are already building facilities at an island offshore to accommodate these ships. One interesting note, Belize claims to be environmentally responsible thus if a boater damages the coral they can be liable for $2,500 up to $12,500 per meter of damaged coral and possible jail time. Ouch! I m pleased to report you would have been proud of your fellow yachtsmen/women as we had no incidents and no one landed in jail. It was a challenge as the charts date back to the late 1800 s and therefore are not too accurate. This brings me to our next winter cruise in 2016 on Arabella scheduled for February This cruise has received tremendous interest, thus if you are interested I suggest you make your reservation ASAP. This is the official invitation for the Arabella winter 2016 Cruise and names will be accepted by Vicky on a first come, first serve basis. The information on the cruise is included in this Tide, with more information in the blast plus you can also check out their Club Manager Vicky Van Loo Office: manager@tayc.com

2 website at The yacht can accommodate a max of 40 so space is limited. Considering how cold the past two winters have been, we expect many of our members will look forward to a warm, breezy and exceptional travel experience. There are four different cabin configurations and pricing to match so study the layout closely. This is the ultimate win, win trip for TAYC! Not only will you be able to partake in this fabulous cruise on Arabella but Dennis Conner will donate $10,000 back to TAYC for the Junior Sailing Program or favorite Club project. Plus, we get a discount club pricing. Be sure to act quickly before it is sold out! On another subject, please remember to sign up for our Race Management Seminar which is scheduled at TAYC on Saturday 4/18. This will be a very informative course and well worth your time! Finally, our TAYC Annual Meeting will be on Sunday 4/12 and you will be able to use your new name tags. I will look forward to seeing you there! Commodore, Brud LaMotte

3 Junior Sailing Hello Junior Sailing Families, The ice has melted! Spring is here and fair-weather sailing is around the corner. As you enjoy warmer days, remember that there s only one month left in early registration for the 2015 Jr. Sailing Program! If you still need to register your sailor, take a moment to go online and register before space runs out and/or late fees apply. After May 1 st, a $100 late fee is applied to new registration. This late fee is also applied to an early, registered sailor with missing/incomplete enrollment forms or an outstanding deposit. Congratulations Juniors! On March 14, 2015, the CBYRA High Point Awards were held at Camp Wright, in Stevensville, MD. Congratulations to TAYC Junior Sailors, Noah Kullman, Mark Bourdin, Zadoc Bond, William Cook, Ryan Stephens, Tucker Andrews, and Walter Ralph for qualifying in the 2014 CBYRA High Point Series. Special congratulations to Mark Bourdin for finishing 8 th out of 43 Optimists! This is an impressive overall CORUM ranking for the series! Access the complete series results on the homepage of the junior program section of tayc.com! I hope to see you at the TAYC Spring Invitational on April 25 th (Penguins and Comets). Scott Williamson TAYC Jr. Sailing Director juniorsailing@tayc.com PHRF Racing The PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet) TAYC Spring Series racing is all set to go with the first race to be held on Sunday, May 10 th, Mother s Day, and continuing every Sunday through May except Memorial Day weekend. The Spring Fling Races (part of the Spring Series) are published in the CBYRA (Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association) Greenbook with other sanctioned races for this part of the Bay. These PHRF races are as much fun and as serious as you want to make them with spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes. There is also a race from Oxford to Cambridge and return as an afternoon and moonlight evening race with intention of finishing in the dark at TAYC on May 31st planned. Bob Greenlee has agreed to serve as PRO (Principal Race Officer) for a number of these races and our RC (Race Committees) need staffing, including signal/committee boats and mark boats. So be ready to lend a hand when called on! If you are not racing, be on race committee - have fun on the water! See our Race Committee Staffing Spreadsheet for volunteering needs online at Call or me at or scallahan@leinc.com to volunteer. Thanks! Sean Callahan PHRF Chairman Shields Racing The Shields Fleet showing their appreciation at the Shields Cocktail Party to Stacey Wrightson, Tony Passarella, George Passano and Pat Shehan for their commitment each year as Shields Race Committee.
