10 DAY 7 - Saturday, November 18, 2017 ATP World Tour Info Tournament Info ATP PR & Marketing ATPWorldTour.com NittoATPFinals.com Martin Dagahs: mdagahs@atpworldtour.com #NittoATPFinals Press Room: #NittoATPFinals FEDERER-GOFFIN, DIMITROV-SOCK SQUARE OFF IN SEMI-FINALS Six-time Nitto ATP Finals champion Roger Federer is joined by three first-time semi-finalists Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin and Jack Sock. This is the first time in tournament history (since 1970) three debutants are in the semi-finals. The last time three players were making their first semi-final showing in the Nitto ATP Finals was in 2008 with Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Gilles Simon. In the first match on, No. 2 Federer brings a 6-0 FedEx ATP Head2Head record against No. 7 Goffin. Federer has won 14 of the previous 16 sets against the Belgian, including the last eight. Federer won the last meeting in the semi-finals of his hometown tournament in Basel on Oct. 28. The 36- year-old Swiss superstar who won Group Boris Becker with a 3-0 record, is appearing in his 14th semi-final in the ATP Finals, the 10th time after going unbeaten in round robin play. He comes in with a 13-match winning streak on the season (52-4 overall). He is 10-3 in SF matches in the season finale and he is trying to reach his 11th final (6-4). His last Nitto ATP Finals title came in 2011 (d. Tsonga). He has been a finalist three times since, in 2012, 2014 (W/O) and 2015, each time to Djokovic. Federer leads the ATP World Tour this season with seven titles and a 14-1 record vs. Top 10 foes. Goffin, who was an alternate last year in London, clinched his semi-final spot on Friday with a win over Dominic Them. The 26-year-old Belgian has won a career-high 56 matches this season and he is 22-7 since the beginning of the US Open with back-to-back titles last month. In the evening session, No. 6 Dimitrov takes on No. 8 Sock, who has a 3-1 head-to-head record, winning the last two meetings after saving match point. Sock saved one MP in his win at 2015 ATP Masters 1000 Montreal and four MPs in a (7) victory earlier this season in March at ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells. The winner will be the first debutant to advance to the Nitto ATP Finals championship since David Ferrer in 2007 (l. to Federer). The 26-year-old Bulgarian has won all three of his Group Pete Sampras matches, dropping only four games in his last two wins. Sock is the first American in the season finale semi-finals since fellow Nebraska native Andy Roddick in 2007 (l. to Ferrer). The last American to advance to the final was James Blake in 2006 (l. to Federer). In doubles action, first-time qualifiers Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus, the only team to go unbeaten in round robin play, take on top seeds and the year-end No. 1 team Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo. 47 DAY 2 - Monday, November 13, 2017 ATP World Tour Info Tournament Info ATP PR & Marketing ATPWorldTour.com NittoATPFinals.com Martin Dagahs: mdagahs@atpworldtour.com #NittoATPFinals Press Room: #NittoATPFinals NADAL BEGINS QUEST FOR BIGGEST TITLE MISSING FROM RÉSUMÉ Rafael Nadal owns 75 singles championships, including 16 Grand Slams, 30 ATP Masters 1000s and an Olympic gold medal. On November 1 in Paris, the 31-year-old became the oldest year-end No. 1 since the Emirates ATP Rankings were established in But the four-time year-end No. 1 still has a glaring hole on his Hall-of-Fame résumé. He s never won the Nitto ATP Finals in seven prior appearances. The Spaniard returns Monday to The O2 in London against No. 7 seed David Goffin. The Nitto ATP Finals is held on indoor hard courts, a surface where Nadal has struggled. Nadal s only indoor hard-court title came 12 years ago at ATP Masters 1000 Madrid, which has since switched surfaces to outdoor clay. Nadal defeated Goffin on the Madrid clay earlier this season, but the Belgian bounced back with consecutive titles at Shenzhen and Tokyo in the fall. Goffin is 20-6 since the US Open, helping him become the first Belgian qualifier in the 48-year history of the Nitto ATP Finals. Also making history for his country is No. 6 seed Grigor Dimitrov, who is the first player from Bulgaria to compete in the year-end championships. He meets No. 4 seed Dominic Thiem in the opening match from Group Pete Sampras. All four players in the group have career-high rankings this week (Nadal - No. 1, Thiem - No. 4, Dimitrov - No. 6, Goffin - No. 8). Thiem is 2-1 lifetime against Dimitrov, most recently saving five match points to beat the Bulgarian en route to the Madrid final. Four-time champions Bob and Mike Bryan face two-time qualifiers Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares in Monday s doubles opener. Then, World No. 1 Marcelo Melo and No. 2 Lukasz Kubot meet Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers in a rematch of the ATP Masters 1000 Paris final won by the Brazilian and Pole on November 5. Melo, the 2015 year-end No. 1, will finish 2017 as the No. 1 doubles player -- and he and Kubot will be the No. 1 team -- with one victory at the Nitto ATP Finals.
