This is the first time since 2014 two former Stockholm champions are meeting in the final. Three years ago, Tomas Berdych beat Dimitrov in the title match. This is their eighth meeting, fourth this season, with del Potro holding a 5-2 head-to-head advantage (3-0 indoors) but Dimitrov has won the last two meetings. In May, del Potro won in the 1R at ATP Masters 1000 Rome but in August Dimitrov prevailed in the 3R at ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati en route to the title and earlier this month on Oct. 4, the Bulgarian won in the 2R of Beijing. They met here in the semi-finals last year and del Potro won en route to the title. Dimitrov is appearing in his third Stockholm final (1-1), having won his maiden ATP title in 2013 (d. No. 3 Ferrer) and finishing runner-up in 2014 (l. to Berdych). Dimitrov is trying to earn his careerbest fourth ATP title of the season. He is 3-0 in finals He is making his 13th career ATP World Tour final (7-5) showing. With his semi-final win, Dimitrov moved from No. 6 to No. 5 in the Emirates ATP Race to London standings. He has held serve 31 of 33 games (94%). Del Potro rallied from a set down to beat Verdasco in a third-set tie-break on Saturday in 2h, 43m. The 29-year-old Argentine is appearing in his first final since winning here one year ago (d. Sock). Del Potro has held 33 of 37 service games (89%). He is attempting to earn his 20th ATP level title and become only the third Argentine in the Open Era with at least 20 titles. Guillermo Vilas-62 and Jose-Luis Clerc-25) are the other Argentines with 20+ titles. He is lifetime vs. Top 10 opponents (4-10 in 2017) and the last time del Potro beat a Top 10 foe in a final was 2013 Basel (d. No. 6 Federer). Fognini and Verdasco are appearing in their first Stockholm semi-final.
