Thiem is trying to become the first top seed to win the Buenos Aires title since Rafael Nadal in Thiem, the current World No. 5, holds a 2-0 head-to-head lead over World No. 51 Bedene in ATP Tour-level matches, with their last meeting taking place last month in Doha with two tight sets. So far this week, Thiem has not lost a set in four matches. En route to the semi-finals, Bedene dismissed No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas (World No. 20) and No. 5 seed Diego Schwartzman (World No. 24), and now hopes to tackle the No. 1 seed Thiem. Bedene is 0-15 against ATP Top 10 players. Thiem owns all three previous meetings against the Frenchman, their last coming at Indian Wells in Monfils recently won the title in Doha, where he was slated to meet Thiem in the semi-finals before the Austrian withdrew. Thiem is trying to become the first top seed to win the Buenos Aires title since Rafael Nadal in With a victory on Saturday, Federico Delbonis will not only reach the final in Buenos Aires, but he'll score career win No. 100, and he'll do so on his home soil, no less. But first, he will have to get past World No. 51 Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia. En route to the semi-finals, Bedene has dismissed No. 3 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas and No. 5 seed Diego Schwartzman. The last time these two players met on the ATP World Tour level was on the clay courts of 2012 Barcelona, a contest that Delbonis took in straight sets. No. 5 Diego Schwartzman is joined by compatriots Federico Delbonis, Leonardo Mayer and Guido Pella in representing the host country, while top seed Dominic Thiem, Gael Monfils, Aljaz Bedene and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez round out the final eight. In the first match on Court Guillermo Vilas, Garcia-Lopez and Delbonis, ranked No. 69 and No. 70, respectively, square off in their first career meeting. While Garcia-Lopez has reached the Argentina Open quarter-finals for the first time this year, Delbonis has advanced to this stage twice before, in 2013 and Following their match will be Schwartzman and Bedene, both of whom needed three sets to pass the second round and earn a spot in the quarters. The two have met three times before, once at the ATP Tour level, and all of which have fallen in Bedene's favor. Leading off the night matches are Mayer and Monfils, who have not met since 2010 Wimbledon. Mayer is in his eighth straight main draw appearance in Buenos Aires, with this year's quarter-finals being his best result to date. He'll be going against an in-form Monfils who is fresh off a title in Doha and deep run in the draw at Quito. The final match of the day features top seed and 2016 champion Thiem facing Pella for a spot in the semi-finals. Although Pella leads their head-to-head 2-1, Thiem took their most recent meeting in the Australian Open first round. The world No. 6 remains undefeated on the courts of Buenos Aires, while Pella's record stands at 3-4.
