Both players are appearing in their first Stuttgart final. This is their third meeting (tied 1-1), the first coming on grass. Both of last year s meetings came in three sets during the European indoor circuit. Lopez won in the 1R of Vienna and Pouille won in the 2R at ATP Masters 1000 Paris. Lopez is appearing in his 16 th career ATP World Tour final (5-10), fourth on grass (2-1). He leads the tournament with 55 aces and he only has been broken three times in 56 service games (95%), saving 14 of 17 break points (82%). The 35-year-old Madrid native is trying to become the third Spaniard in the last four years to win the title. Two years ago, Rafael Nadal won in the tournament s first year on grass and in 2014 Roberto Bautista Agut captured the crown. Lopez won his last ATP title in Gstaad on July 24, 2016 (d. Haase). His previous grass court titles came in Eastbourne. Pouille is appearing in his fifth career ATP World Tour final (2-2) and third this season (1-1) on as many surfaces. He and Gilles Muller are the only players to reach ATP finals on three surfaces this season. The 23-year-old Frenchman is appearing in his first grass court final and he s trying to become the first Frenchman to win the since Jeremy Chardy in Prior to that Henri Leconte won the title in He has held serve 39 of 43 games (91%), saving 16 of 20 break pts. (80%). Pouille saved match point in his 2R win over Struff and in his title run in Budapest in April he saved two match points in his opening 2R match (d. Vesely). In the opening match, Berdych and Feliciano Lopez meet for the 13 th time (tied 6-6), the second in Stuttgart and on grass. In the next match on, Kohlschreiber looks for his second win this season against Pouille. In February, the German won their first meeting in the 1R of Rotterdam. Kohlschreiber, who was runner-up in 2013 and last year, is appearing in his third straight QF and fifth overall in Stuttgart. Pouille is 4-0 in QF matches this season. In the third match on, Haas takes on Zverev for the second time. Haas won the first meeting in the QFs of 2009 Halle.
