Having picked up his 70th match win at the event with his semi-final victory over No. 7 seed Daniil Medvedev (now 14-1 in Basel semi-final matches), Federer is currently riding a 19-match winning streak at the tournament. The Swiss star has reached the Basel final in each of his last 12 appearances ( , ), and now sets his sights on winning a 99th career ATP World Tour singles title. Copil s terrific week in Basel will continue with the biggest final of his career, as he seeks to become the 14th first-time singles titlist this season. The Romanian reached his first ATP World Tour semifinal and final at Sofia in February, and will now contest a second singles final after making it through the qualifying. Having gone 0-6 against Top 10 players prior to this week, Copil picked up his first Top 10 win over No. 6 Marin Cilic in the second round, and then garnered another in his semi-final upset of No. 5 Alexander Zverev. He is the first qualifier in the Basel final since Marcos Baghdatis in 2005, and the lowest-ranked Basel finalist since No. 100 Patrick McEnroe in Alexander Zverev may have fallen to Copil in the singles semi-final, but he will still play for a Basel title on Sunday, as he will partner his older brother Mischa in the doubles championship final. Alexander won at Montpellier in 2017 and reached 4 other doubles finals in his career all while teamed with his brother. He seeks his second doubles title, while Mischa goes for a fourth career doubles title. They ll meet Dominic Inglot and Franko Skugor, who paired up for the first time at Budapest in April and promptly won the title. They won again at s-hertogenbosch two months later. ZVEREV ON COLLISION COURSE FOR 1-VS-2 FINAL Top 2 seeds and Top 5 players Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev are a win from meeting in a dream final at the Swiss Indoors Basel. Daniil Medvedev and Marius Copil hope to end the dream before it starts in Saturday s semi-finals. Federer seeks his 70th win and 14th final at his hometown event when he faces Medvedev, whom he defeated at ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai on 10 October. The Swiss is 13-1 in Basel semi-finals with 11 straight wins since David Nalbandian beat him in Federer has also reached the Basel final in each of his last 11 appearances ( , 2017). Medvedev, Federer and Kevin Anderson are tied for the seventh-most wins on the ATP World Tour this season with 42. But Medvedev stands alone with 37 hard-court wins in the most of any player on tour. Like Federer, the 22-year-old Russian has won three titles this season. Facing Federer in Basel is unlikely to phase Medvedev, who defeated Alex de Minaur of Australia in the Sydney final, Steve Johnson of the United States in the Winston-Salem final and Kei Nishikori of Japan in the Tokyo final. Medvedev is 22-5 overall since 20 August with two of his three titles. Neither Zverev nor Copil has lost a set in Basel. For Zverev, that s spanned three matches.
