De Minaur earned his first ATP World Tour win at Sydney in Last week, the Aussie teen upset former World No. 3 Milos Raonic and became the youngest (18) and lowest-ranked (No. 208) semi-finalist in Brisbane International history. The Sydney native will meet another ex-top 10 player, Fernando Verdasco, in Ken Rosewall Arena. Vukic, 21, is making his ATP debut on Show Court 1 against Verdasco s countryman Feliciano Lopez. In qualifying, Vukic earned straight-set wins over Dusan Lajovic and Ricardas Berankis. The Sydney native will begin his senior season of college tennis for the University of Illinois later this month. Vukic earned All-American and Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Year honors in In other first-round action, Gilles Simon returns to Sydney for the first time since winning the 2011 title. Day 2 kicks off on Show Court 1 with an all-australian clash between 28-year-old wild card John Millman and 18-year-old qualifier Alexei Popyrin. Millman is attempting to claim his first main draw victory in Sydney since a win over former World No.5 Tommy Robredo in Popyrin, the reigning Roland Garros boys singles champion, is making his ATP World Tour main draw debut, with his only prior experience at a Tour event being a loss to Denis Istomin in the first round of qualifying at Dubai last year. Another Australian wild card, Alex Bolt, opens play on Show Court 4 against Ricardas Berankis. The Latvian Berankis fell to Aleksandar Vukic of Australia in the final round of qualifying, but enters the draw as a lucky loser following the withdrawal of Filip Krajinovic, due to an injury to the Serbian s left Achilles tendon. Berankis is seeking his first ATP World Tour match victory since his run to the Kremlin Cup final in October of 2017, while Bolt is searching for his maiden win at this level, having lost all three of his prior attempts. Rounding out the singles play, No. 5 seed Adrian Mannarino and No. 6 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber each open their campaigns against Russian qualifiers. Mannarino, of France, faces Evgeny Donskoy on Show Court 3. The pair has split their two ATP World Tour meetings, but Mannarino has won their two additional matches at Challenger and qualifying levels. Meanwhile, Germany s Kohlschreiber will take on Daniil Medvedev, a semifinalist at last year s inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals. Kohlschreiber is trying to rebound in Sydney after being unable to start his quarter-final match against Viktor Troicki last year, due to a back injury.
