Day 2 kicks off on Show Court 1 with an all-australian clash between 28-year-old wild card John Millman and 18-year-old qualifier Alexei Popyrin. Millman is attempting to claim his first main draw victory in Sydney since a win over former World No.5 Tommy Robredo in Popyrin, the reigning Roland Garros boys singles champion, is making his ATP World Tour main draw debut, with his only prior experience at a Tour event being a loss to Denis Istomin in the first round of qualifying at Dubai last year. Another Australian wild card, Alex Bolt, opens play on Show Court 4 against Ricardas Berankis. The Latvian Berankis fell to Aleksandar Vukic of Australia in the final round of qualifying, but enters the draw as a lucky loser following the withdrawal of Filip Krajinovic, due to an injury to the Serbian s left Achilles tendon. Berankis is seeking his first ATP World Tour match victory since his run to the Kremlin Cup final in October of 2017, while Bolt is searching for his maiden win at this level, having lost all three of his prior attempts. Rounding out the singles play, No. 5 seed Adrian Mannarino and No. 6 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber each open their campaigns against Russian qualifiers. Mannarino, of France, faces Evgeny Donskoy on Show Court 3.
