Troicki defeated Mikhail Kukushkin two years ago in the first ATP World Tour final to ever feature two qualifiers. In 2016, the Serbian player saved a championship point against Grigor Dimitrov. Others already through to the second round are No. 1 seed Dominic Thiem, No. 2 seed Pablo Cuevas and No. 4 seed Pablo Carreño Busta. All three players won multiple titles during the 2016 season. Thiem enjoyed the biggest breakthrough of the bunch, capturing four titles, earning 58 wins and reaching a career-high No. 7. Australians Alex De Minaur, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Jordan Thompson were granted wild cards. De Minaur qualified at Brisbane last week before falling to Mischa Zverev in his ATP World Tour debut.
