3 Good evening, and welcome to Bosham Village Hall for our annual end of season presentation evening. We welcome players, management, partners, friends and families and very warm welcome to our special guest, Portsmouth FC ambassador, Alan Knight MBE. Tonight we celebrate what has been another successful season at the club culminating with our recent Southern Combination Division 2 Cup final victory against League champions, AFC Varndeanians at Storrington, two weeks ago. A spectacular finish from Nick Edgington added to Marco Giambelardini s earlier strike to ensure the silverware came back to Walton Lane for a second successive year. The victory was also the first time a side had won the cup back-to-back since the League s original formation in 1983/84, and was the fourth occasion Bosham had their name on it. We seem to say this every season, but the League itself conspired to be one of the most competitive its ever been, with six sides taking the title race right down to the wire. We ended the campaign in sixth spot having crammed in 11 fixtures into April and 40 percent of the season into the space of 35 days! Testament to the players for balancing their work commitments to travel to the likes of Billingshurst for a 6.15pm k.o! As the cup final proved, on our day, we are a match for any side in this Division, with the League a realistic aim in 2016/17. Danny Mullen stepped up to take over the reserves at the eleventh hour, and after a difficult start to life in the West Division without a pre-season, has brought in new faces and transformed their fortunes, ending with three wins from the final four, and again playing a pivotal role in linking first team prospects and developing the best crop from the youth set-up. John Stead s squad in their first year at u18 level have had a challenging season, with a couple of sides pulling out the League, but despite some tough opposition, never gave up - and looking at the bigger picture, seeing players move into the senior set up via Danny s reserves would mark their campaign a success. 2015/16 heralded a second youth team in Bosham colours, with Rick Kennett managing our newly-formed u15 s, with the support of Chris Rustell. They finished fourth in the C Division and gave the league leaders a run for their money, while both bosses are currently in the midst of obtaining their Level 1 coaching badges, funded by the Football Foundation, and helping to maintain our FA Charter Standard status. Off the field we ve continued to make progress, with funding in the region of 13k from West Sussex County Council s Big Society Fund and Bosham Parish Council enabling us to purchase a new pitch perimeter barrier, external storage, pitch line marker, our own mower, and a new bar shutter. The grant will also fund a pitch renovation project starting next weekend to scarify, over seed and top dress the playing surface to get it back in top condition for the start of 2016/17 to benefit all four sides that use it on alternate weekends. Andy Probee again picked up the Southern Area Groundsman of the Year for Step 7 clubs, with Southampton Head Groundsman, Andy Gray casting his assessment recently. The match programme meanwhile received a merit from the Soccer Club Swap Shop awards, provisionally positioned 21 st nationally from 585 entries at all levels of the non-league pyramid. Next season marks our 115 th season since the club s formation in 1901, and we plan to recognise this with a little addition to the club logo on kit, and through our growing website and social platforms. A big thank you to our MC, Frank Antony; DJ, Ben Evans; and Jan, Gordon and Nicki Webb for their help with the food and bar tonight. We would also like to pass on thanks to our sponsors for their support this season, and the club committee for their continued efforts behind the scenes to keep us moving forward. Enjoy your evening, Simon.

7 We always seemed to have a bit of a grudge match against Wimbledon it was their long-ball style against our passing game. They were the ones where it always helped having players like them on your side. Slowest: Probably me, ha! I wasn t the quickest! ALAN KNIGHT Best Trainer: Mart Poom, the Estonian who went on to play at Derby and Arsenal. We used to say he was like a clone of Ivan Drago, the big Russian guy from Rocky IV! He was like a robot at training! Nice lad, too. Worst Trainer: There s loads! But I ll say Andy Awford now he s the manager he s the one giving out the orders, and I think he prefers it that way! Most Skilful: Robert Prosinecki. The ball would stick to his feet - although Robert joined just after I finished playing so will split this one between Paul Walsh and Kevin Dillon. They had fantastic natural ability, were such fluid players with great awareness and seemed one step ahead of everyone else. Hardest Shot: Again, there were quite a few, but I ll go with Mark Hateley he could definitely hit them. The Joker: Vince Hilaire. Vince was more of a story teller, making people laugh and a great character to have around the dressing room. Hardman: I ve been lucky to play with quite a few over the years. Mick Kennedy, Mick Tait and Billy Gilbert come to mind. Fastest: Paul Hall he was probably the quickest I ve seen at the club. Most Intelligent: Well, there s one or two that have surprised me later on in life. Aaran de Zeeuw is now a crime scene investigator in the Dutch police, so out of everyone I d have to say him. Least Intelligent: Oh dear! Possibly Graeme Hogg the lads once told him he needed a passport to go to the Isle of Wight and he believed them!! Biggest Moaner: Kevin O Callaghan - he would moan about all sorts! I remember him and Billy Gilbert used to bicker about who had best cut grass in their front lawn, or the best toilet roll anything! Worst Dress Sense: I ll have to bring Robert (Prosinecki) back for this one! He had these fashion shops in Barcelona and other places around Europe, but some of the gear he turned up in was terrible psychedelic colours, awful. Most vain: Well, there s probably a few now but I d get in trouble for saying! I ll go with Keith Viney. And Who s the longest in the shower: We used to have baths back then! I ll say Steve Middleton, the goalkeeper. He was at the club the season I made my debut in 1977/78 that game at Rotherham was certainly one of the fondest memories of my career, keeping a clean sheet and winning one-nil.
