3 Good afternoon, and welcome to Walton Lane for today s Southern Combination Football League Division Two fixture against Alfold. We extend a warm welcome to the visiting players, officials and supporters who have made the journey from the Surrey border for today s game, and also welcome today s match referee, Neal Saxton, from Wisborough Green. Last week was important to get back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory here against Worthing Town Leisure, having suffered backto-back cup defeats against Roffey (Intermediate Cup) and Jarvis Brook (Division Two) in the two games prior. It was another super team effort behind the scenes, too with player management Andy Probee and Neil Redman (line-marking) alongside Match Day Secretary Andy Gilbert (on the mower) doing a fantastic job in preparing the pitch. We also picked up another 5* rating from our annual environment health visit - our thanks to Jan and Maurice for their continued efforts in running the kitchen, and for the postmatch player food I hear last week s lasagne was another hit! Off the field, we continuing with organising of our inaugural summer 6-a-side tournament for u7-u15 age groups at Chichester High School for Boys playing fields on July more info inside this programme, and on our website on how to enter your team, for what is set to be a weekend of football fun! Meanwhile, the club has applied for a grant through West Sussex s Community Initiative Fund to improve our canopy structure outside the main clubhouse, alongside funding for a new shed to securely store our mower away from the elements, and overseeding/ top-dressing to restore the pitch during the close season. A decision is expected in the next couple of weeks so fingers crossed. Today s visitors Alfold have followed a similar trajectory to ourselves in rising through the West Sussex League and investing in their ground and facilities. Wayne Mouring and the committee there have done a fantastic job to enable promotion, with a new changing room block being built alongside a pre-existing welcoming clubhouse and excellent playing surface. I understand there are also plans afoot for hard standing on two sides and a permanent perimeter barrier next season. Despite being at the wrong end of the Division Two table, Alfold have one of the League s most potent strikers in Dan Hallett, and reports suggest recent performances have belied the club s League position. I know from speak to Probes that Alfold is up there with one of our favourite away days given the set-up - and an innovative club too, in recording match highlights, available on YouTube a warm welcome to cameraman, Mike this afternoon, also. Rick Kennett s u16 s are now becoming a regular fixture in these notes, but deservedly so as they continue to impress Sunday saw them move top of the Arun & Chichester C Division after a thumping 8-2 win here against Worthing Town Red Ed Kennett weighing in with a hat-trick, alongside six goal scorers on the day. They travel to mid-table Rustington Otters tomorrow, with a top-of-the-table clash, here on March 12 against Midhurst & Easebourne. If you re looking for a football fix tomorrow, then John Stead s u18 s are in action here against Predators (10.30am k.o) in the B Division. 5 SOUTHERN COMBINATION FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO By Alan Price Bosham got back to winning ways with a comfortable home win against a determined Worthing Town Leisure side - and with it, wipe away the memories of previous back-to-back cup defeats. Bosham started quickly and after only four minutes had broken the deadlock through the every impressive Louis Bell. Bosham forced a corner on the right and Marco Giambelardini supplied a superb ball direct to Bell on the edge of the area and he turned and fired home in an instant to put the reds in front and give them the perfect start to the match. Worthing stuck to their guns after the early shock and probed away trying to find a way back into the tie and both Richard Ghent and Steve Kirkham went close but the returning Bosham keeper, Sam Joyce was easily able to deal with the opportunities to keep Bosham in front. Close to the half hour the Robins finally doubled their lead with a sumptuous strike from Graeme Dowden. Bradley Miles - the instigator for the reds in midfield - worked an opening and slid the ball through perfectly for Dowden to run onto and drive the ball home passed the stranded Daryl Ashworth in the Worthing goal. Bosham continued to press and almost on the half time interval they added a third goal to their increasing tally. This time Giambelardini picked up the ball on the edge of the area and weaved a little bit of magic, dancing passed a couple of players and then turning on a sixpence to fire home, wrong footing Ashworth and sealing a terrific first half for the reds and the hope of more to come after the break. Jake Lafferty came on for the restart, replacing Giambelardini and instantly set about injecting his flamboyant style on the match and to good effect. The substitute s style and quality had Worthing back peddling at times but the results in the final third of the pack went awry for the hosts and they had to wait a while before adding to goals column. Right on the hour mark Miles grabbed a goal that his strong performance had deserved. Charlie Cooper pushed hard down the right a swung in a teasing ball into the area which Miles met with a sweet half volley, leaving Ashworth rooted to the spot and powerless to prevent the subsequent goal. Bosham enjoyed a great deal of possession and territory after that and eased to the final whistle without alarm. 19 We are excited to announce our inaugural Summer 6-a-side Youth Football Tournament to take place over the weekend of July at Chichester High School For Boys playing fields. The tournament is open to u7-u15 s age groups, with group games followed by semi-finals and finals for u9 s-u15 s. Friendly fixtures will take place for u7-8 s which will be 7-a-side. All competitions adhere to FA rules, and are fully insured. Squads for u7-8 age groups can be up to 10 players, with u9 s and above naming up to eight players. ENTER We are now actively inviting teams to enter, which they can do so via the application form download on the leading story on our website alongside information on where to send the completed forms and remittance of 25 per team (BACS transfer or PayPal preferred). Club s may enter multiple sides into the same age group, should they wish (ie A and B teams). We recommend teams apply at the earliest opportunity for this weekend of football fun, as some age groups may be over subscribed. Closing date for entries including payment in full is Saturday, May 27.
