3 Good afternoon, and welcome to Walton Lane for today s Sussex County League Division Three fixture against Southwick. We extend a warm welcome to our visitors who have made the journey along the coast from the Brighton area for this afternoon s game, and to match referee, Martin Smith, from Bognor Regis. It s been another hectic couple of weeks at the club since my last notes including our club and charity fundraiser against the Pompey Legends. Adecentcrowdof165didn tlettheweather dampen their spirits and helped make for an enjoyable and nostalgic afternoon with good causes at its heart. Ourthankstoeveryonewhocamealongand supported and to those who gave up their timetohelpoutbehindthescenes. We must of course give special thanks to Portsmouth for their assistance in organising, in particular to Touchline Tony MaleandAlanKnightwhoweresogenerous indonatingvipmatchdayticketsforafuture Pompey game for us to raffle, in addition to a signed ball and pictures. Although Alan couldn t play because of a hip injury, it was brilliant just to have him around signing autographs and posing for photos. We hope this is the start of a fruitful partnership with our local professional club. We were delighted to give John Stead s youth team the chance to visit Wembley Stadium on Sunday to see England Women against Germany - with tickets courtesy of our FA Charter Standard status. Although England lost 3-0, am sure the boys will have memories they ll keep for a very long time. Theclubwasalsothrilledtoberecognisedat the annual Sussex Sports Awards last week held at the Brighton Grand Hotel, with Chairman, Alan Price attending to collect our certificate and chin-wag with former Brighton defender, Adam Virgo, who was sat onthesametable! It was back to League action on Saturday for Andy s first team, with a comfortable 6-0 win at Clymping that took us back into second spot - although we re expecting a much tougher time this afternoon against Southwick, who have won six of their nine League fixtures so far this season, and like ourselves, are also still in the Sussex Intermediate Cup. Enjoy the game, and Up The Robins! BOSHAM XI 4 POMPEY LEGENDS 3 (16/11/14): The teams line-up for the camera ahead of the club and charity fundraiser at Walton Lane two weeks ago. Photo: Michael Hulf

5 Sussex County League Division 3 By ALAN PRICE Bosham were in fine fettle thisweek and set about securing an emphatic win against rock bottom Clymping to move back into second place in the table. The blues have conceded a bucket full of goals this season in what has been a very tough campaign so far, and Bosham gave them little respite going two goals in front with less thantenminutesontheclock. First Jake Lafferty showed what he can do in rounding off a move inspired by Graeme Dowden who went on a surging run from the back deep into the blues half. Having found Lafferty with a simple pass the striker cut in from the right and then fired an unstoppable shot intotheroofofthenet. Next Marco Giambelardini was on hand to complete another scorching reds move. Both Adam Brett and top scorer Dave Storey were involved as the ball found its way to the feet of Bosham play maker who needed no second invitation to slot home passed keeper, Rhys Griffiths. Bosham were flying and the blues simply had no answer to the precision and pace that the Robin s continued to show during the half. Joe Charman and Ashley Corby tried their best but the defensive partnership of Nick Edgington and Dave Bryant were not to be broken and the reds went into the interval with their lead firmly intact even with Gary English coming very close to a spectacular own goal. The second half was less than two minutesoldwhenbrettgotinonthe scoring act to add a third in sublime style. Surging forward, defenders backed off and the Bosham striker was almost invited to shoot, which he did, from the edge of the area and his effort flew into the bottom corner leaving keeper, Griffiths, stunned at what had just happened. Worse followed for the luckless Griffiths as he was then forced off with an injury to be replaced by substitute keeper, Craig Seacombe Bosham now went in search ofmore goals and this time Dave Storey was the player to oblige. The striker burst clear of a dispirited defence and finished easily to give the reds a fourgoalcushionbythehourmark. In the final quarter of the game Dowden slotted a superb free kick and, late on, Dave Storey wrapped things up with his second of the game to make it six of the best for the reds. Bosham: Hasted, Probee, Dowden, Bryant, Edgington, Docherty, Mullen, Lafferty, Giambelardini, Storey, Brett. Subs: Barnes, Redman, Carter.
6 Formed in 1901, Bosham were founder members of Division Three of the County League in 1983/84 following a long and established period within local football. Their inaugural season at the higher standard ended with a commendable fourth placed finish. The following year of 1984/85, the club finished runners-up to Oakwood, winning promotion to Division Two. To cap a very successful season, Bosham also won the Division Three League Cup a feat they were to repeat in 2009/10. Having won promotion in 1985/86, Bosham had mixed fortunes in senior football with their best effort a sixth place finish in 1990/91, although the following season they were relegated back to Division Three after seven years at the higher level. However, in 1993/94, they were promoted back again as champions albeit a short-live success, as the following two seasons saw successive relegations back to the West Sussex Football League. Following an overhaul of both players and management, Bosham enjoyed a resurgence on the pitch resulting in one of their most successful seasons ever in 1998/99, winning the coveted treble of the West Sussex Premier Division; Malcolm Simmonds Cup and the Centenary Cup a feat no other club has achieved. 1999/00 saw Bosham champions once again, making a welcome return to senior football and scoring 109 goals along the way an average of 3.6 per game - although following a mid-table finish in 2000/01, The Robins found themselves bottom of the pile the following year and yoyoed backdowntodivision 3. The club once again struggled in Division Three, but a late revival saw them finish one place off the bottom, five points clear of Uckfield Town. Although a relegation position, the resignation of Oving coupled with only Wadhurst United meeting the requirements for promotion - spared them the drop. Until 2006/07 a year when Bosham were once again reprieved after a picking up the Division Three wooden spoon there had been signs of improvement, with the club appearing reasonably comfortable in Division Three after many up and down seasons; and in 2004/05, reached the Final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup, where they were defeated by Rustington. Cup success again afforded the Walton Lane side in 2008/09 when they were beaten by a solitary goal to nil against fellow Division Three side, Forest, in the final of the same trophy. However Bosham did find the winning formula the following season, drafting in a largely youthful squad, to lead the club to the Division 3 title for the third time; the Division Three ChallengeCup,andtheTeamoftheYearaward. Unfortunately, league ground grading regulations were to this time go against Bosham and they were denied a place back in senior football. Despite this knock, the club managed to keep the majority of the side that earned their top spot the previous season, and gallantly went on to finish in fourth place in 2010/11. Bosham were unfortunately demoted to the West Sussex Premier Division for the start of the 2012/13 season, owing to ground grading regulations, despite ending the previous campaign in 9 th place. Under the guidance of Tony Hancock, the Robins finished third in their return season in West Sussex Premier Division. Despite a positive start to the 2013/14 campaign, Hancock ended his ten year reign in charge of The Robins, with long-serving player Andy Probee taking over the role in November Probee immediately steered Bosham back to the Sussex County League as Premier Division Champions in his first season as manager. The close season of 2013/14 was one of the most significant in the clubs recent history, with Sport England funding enabling clubhouse, dressing room and ground facility upgrades. The refrubished clubhouse was officially re-opened by Alan Knight MBE on August 30, Football Foundation funding was also obtained to assist with a new under 16 team, while Bosham also achieved FA Charter Standard status in recognition of being well run. Although Bosham have never competed in the FA Cup, they were entrants to the FA Vase between 1986 and 1990, however in facing stiff opposition, never managed to win in this competition.

19 Slowest: It has to be the Gaffer and his assistant. Probes and Neilsa!! Probes looks like he s quick, but that s only because his arms move twice as quick as his legs!! Where as Neilsa isn t too slow, it s just I ve seen milk turn quicker!! MATT DOCHERTY Best Trainer: James Wilson, the skipper! Always there, always gives 100%. Usually working hard to burn off the can of Red Bull, and family pack of Fridge Raiders he s just consumed!! Worst Trainer: Edgey!! Mainly because he isn t ever there. But his fitness levels are high because he does put in a shift on the dance floor at Drift! Although I m not too sure how cardiovascular The Robot is?! Most Skilful: Either Marco or Kieran Hartley. Kizza is a player who will skin you and leave you for dead whereas Marco will trick you, pullyourpantsdown, checktoseeifyou reok andthendoitagain.hedoesn thaveacarein the world. Any more laid back and he d fall over! Hardest Shot: I have to be honest, do I pack some power but Kieran Hartley does have a shot on him!! That s why they built the new fencebehind the goal.fluffwould misshalfof all our games due to Kizza s shooting, collecting the stray balls! The Joker: We all have a laugh within the club. Ben Blanshard is always on the wind up. Plusit sabitofajokehe sstilltryingtoplay! Hardman: The boss - Probes, has to be mentioned. He likes a scrap, but his bark is worse than his bite. Just ask that fella from Lancing!! Most Intelligent: Anyone who can count to tenisinwithashout I dsaydavebryant. He told me he was away in China on business the other week, so he has to do something intelligent!! Least Intelligent: Kieran Hartley. Easily distracted, usually by a butterfly or a funny shaped cloud. He also finds it hard to dress himself. He came out to the bar after Ifield away, withhisshirtoninsideout. Biggest Moaner: Dowden. You know when Dowd s moaning because he mouth is moving! Whether it s because he doesn t get the ball out on the left or there isn t enough cheese in the cheese sandwiches after the game. He s always not happy with something. I once heard him moaning to himself at half-time, away to Ferring! Poor lad. Worst Dress Sense: Neilsa(Redman) by a mile. Oncecametoendofseasonnightoutinapair oflinentrousersthreesizestoobig.ohandhis purple George shirt, fresh out the packet!! Most vain: Marco Giambelardini. Moisturises after every the game, never lets his stubble grow a cm longer than socially acceptable and keeps his tan up all year round. Oh, and he was fuming about the length and style of the tracksuit bottoms, claiming they were like flairs. I even heard that he brings a pocket mirrorwithhimtoallgames. And Who s the longest in the shower: Well, Puma (Adam Brett), does like a shower. However, I do like to make sure that after the game, every bit of me is clean and that can take some time!!

Season saw an end, until 1956, of Bosham s membership of the West Sussex League. Finishing bottom of the WSFL Junior Division, the Club left to join the newly formed Chichester and District League for the season. The League President was Mr E Ford and the Secretary was Mr Grenyer of Whyke Lane. Bosham s Secretary at that time was Mr A DHawkins of 9 Gifford Road. It is understood that the Club s home ground was close to the shore near the Trippet. Season saw the first Chichester Charity cup competition. The cup was played for on a knock-out basis involving members of the C&DFL plus invited clubs from the area. Bosham reached the semi-finals in the first two seasons of the competition.
