Mark Twain The JPS Community Connections Committee announces this holiday season s 12 Days of Kindness. JP students are being challenged to go beyond the usual and passive "nice" and set an intention to perform acts of kindness. Suggestions will be given for each of the 12 Days prior to Winter Break. In addition, there will be opportunities to honor your classmates acts of kindness and celebrate our culture of KINDNESS. JPS students have the courage to go beyond nice and take action with acts of KINDNESS. 2 The Senior of the Month Program is sponsored by Edison Rotary the local chapter of Rotary International, a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who through community service make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad. JPS staff nominate well-rounded students who are actively engaged in community service. Our November Seniors of the Month are academically successful, responsible, respectful students who give back to the school and surrounding community. Congratulations! Claire Gao Claire is president and founder of the Asian Dance Performance Team which performs at various hospitals, veteran homes, and senior homes to spread culture and joy. She is a teacher s assistant at King s Academy of Dance and the Edison Chinese School. Claire also volunteers at the Menlo Park Veteran s Home. Suhav Toteja Suhav is President of the JPS Model United Nations. He is Captain of Odyssey of the Mind and Co-captain of the Varisty Football Team. Suhav volunteers many hours as a Hindi School teacher in Marlboro and as an assistant coach for the Edison Youth Basketball Program. He also is a volunteer for Speak Up Edison New Jersey Governor s Award in New Jersey All-State Chorus! March If you are interested in serving on the Women s History Month Committee, please sign up on the form in the Main Office. The committee members will design bulletin boards, write informational announcements, design a t-shirt and discuss other means of celebration. Meetings will be scheduled before and after school. Out of over 1100 students auditioned for the choruses, 350 were accepted for the Mixed Chorus and only 16 qualified for the Governor s Award. The Choral Procedures Committee has chosen Jared Borja as one of four recipients because of his impressive audition in octets, as well as his resume and experience singing with JP Stevens and his community.

4 The Way Life Goes By Muskan Khandare I am on a boat that is sturdy and impenetrable Sailing across sea; going through the motion. I am unclear on what to anticipate on this journey; Unaware of where this vast blueness ends. In an instance, the tide changes. Saltwater seeps in. A wind blows in resistance. My course is altered. All serenity is destroyed. Given way by nature, I am no longer protected. Disrupted by circumstances, I become vulnerable. No! There is a solution. It is not over yet. Life happens. Sometimes, uncontrollably. Still, I have control of myself. I have power. In life, no one is invincible. In life, everyone is capable.

5 HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING It s that time of the year once again! JP Stevens has adopted 11 families this holiday season for the C.A.R.E. project. The C.A.R.E. project sponsors families of Edison with children who are in need of gifts for the upcoming holiday season. If you are interested in providing a gift, individually or as a group, please: Take a tag from the giving tree in the Counseling Office naming the gift you need to purchase (one tag per person unless you are taking for a club). Complete the information on the sign-up sheet for that specific item. Purchase and wrap the gift, using the same tag as a label for the gift. Return the gift to the Guidance Office no later than December 15 th. Our only request is that once you take a tag from the giving tree, you follow through with your commitment to provide a gift. This is a great opportunity for the JP Stevens family to come together to make someone s holiday a little brighter! Counseling The first marking period has ended. Do you feel like you need to improve? See your School Counselor to talk about study strategies, note-taking skills, time management, tutoring and more. It is still early enough in the year to improve your grade. Are you struggling with the workload of a class, or feeling stressed about life in general? 7 The Class of 2018 is hosting the annual blood drive on December 13 th. If you are 16+ years old and want to donate blood, you can pick up a form in room 234. Forms need to returned ASAP with parent signatures to Ms. Holborow or Ms. Boff. Donate and help save lives. Jordan is a junior captain. She is a flyer and completed all of her stunts and tumbling passes during the halftime performance at the Thanksgiving game. Matt has been a defensive rock all season. He had 5 interceptions for his team this season including one against Edison in the Thanksgiving game.
