The first is for Mr. Stott and our 5th and 6th grade band members. The second is for Mrs. Todds Authors Tea. Wednesday night I attended our whole district band concert at Medomak Valley High School. Listening to our band from the whole district was very fun! Seeing the progression from elementary school through high school is remarkable. Thank you to all the students, parents and staff that came out to see all the hard work of our students and music teachers. Our very own Mr. Stott did a wonderful job representing Union Elementary School. Mrs. Todd held and Authors Tea on Thursday afternoon. Students read their stories to our audience, sang several songs, had snacks, honored our volunteers, watched a class sideshow and shared their stories with our visitors. It was wonderful to have all the families and friends come to celebrate the learning. Thank you Mrs. Todd for all your hard work. Monday- Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, juice, fruit, Tuesday- Cinnamon bun, fruit, juice, Wednesday- Fruity Cheerios, fruit, juice, Thursday- Bagel & cream cheese, fruit, juice, Friday- Assorted cereal, fruit, juice, 6th grade Student/Parent Night & Dance will be held at Medomak Middle School on Tuesday, June 9th from 6:00-8:00 PM. 2 Students recognized for positive behaviors!! Congratulations to the following students for being recognized this week for our targeted positive behavior which is: students acts in a way that is respectful and responsible. Also, that the student is ready to learn and act in a safe way. Addison Lea, Noah Holmes, Jennifer Lind, Josh Blake, Ryan Lea, Aiden Abbotoni, Teagan Aiken, Vinny Athearn, Jonathon Winchenbach, Sciatzy Solis, Logan Cook, Hannah Woodcock, Grace Weston, Bella LaFrance, James Hopkins, Lexi Gordon, & Alex Ward. We did a drawing from those names and the following students will receive special privileges next week: Jennifer Lind, Teagan Aiken & Sciatzy Solis. Summer Fun Raffle Union Elementary School s PTC is holding a Summer Fun Raffle to benefit the PTC. The raffle items are on display in the lobby here at the school. Tickets are on sale in the office for $.25 each or 5 for $1.00. The drawing will be held on Thursday, June 18th. Good luck everyone!! Great job!!!! Field Day 2015 Field Day will be held UES rain or shine on Wednesday, June 17th directly after the 3rd Trimester Awards assembly. Parents are welcome to come and help for the day with his/her childʼs class as they rotate stations. Parents must be approved volunteers to help out. Please contact Allison in the office to sign up to help. All visitors please report to the office when you arrive. The activities will begin at approximately 10:15 and will continue throughout the day. We will have a break for lunch. If you would like a lunch that day, please order it in the morning and let us know if you want ham or cheese pizza. Adult lunches are $4.00 or you can bring your own! Final Awards Assembly Parents and family members are invited to attend the 3 rd trimester awards assembly on Wednesday, June 8:45 AM. The awards that will be presented at that time will be Effort, Citizenship, Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies, Writer, Scholar, MVEA awards grades 4 & 6, District III Chorus, and K-2 and 3-6 General Music Awards. We will also be recognizing the volunteers who have helped out this year. The 6 th graders who will be moving on to the middle school next year will be recognized at the end of the assembly.

Easy cards and crafts for the for the special father in your life. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call Vose Library at Heroes of Summer Reading Saturday, June 27, 10am Design your own superhero and get ready to read this summer! Sign up for the Summer Reading program. Games and activities for all ages. Summer Reading celebrates the theme Every Hero Has a Story. Children from birth to eighteen can sign up at the library, set reading goals, keep their reading logs, and earn chances to win a bicycle! Our Summer Reading prizes are sponsored by the Union Masons. Six bicycles, complete with helmets, will be given away two large, two medium, and two small one with training wheels. ----Family Movie Night: The Secret of Kells Thursday, July 9, 7pm Pre-Kindergarten Questionnaire The budget proposal for next year would provide for the expansion of our PreKindergarten program into Union Elementary School and/or Prescott Memorial School. We are trying to find out how many 4 year olds in Union would be interested in attending a Pre-Kindergarten program and what would best work for families. Currently, Pre-Kindergarten for our district four-year olds is offered at Miller School and Warren Community School. Please contact the school ASAP at , or stop at the school for a questionnaire, to help us plan and provide the most effective pre-school experience for your child. Letʼs watch a movie together! Bring your kids in their jammies and stay to watch with the whole family. Set in Dark Ages Ireland, The Secret of Kells is the story of a boy on a dangerous quest and a magical book, interwoven with elements of Celtic folklore Academy Award Nominee for Best Animated Feature. Not rated; cartoon violence (Viking raids), some scary creatures. Reviews suggest ages 7-9 and up. Note: This is a Hulu movie, so itʼs supported by commercials. The good thing is that means itʼs free for us to show! Availability may change if that happens, weʼll choose another family-friendly movie. Health Office News June 12, 2015 Maine is a great place to be in the summer! Our Mid Coast area has ponds, rivers, lakes, streams and the great Atlantic Ocean that provide endless opportunities for water related activities like swimming, kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, waterskiing and fishing. Please remember these general safety tips to keep you, your family and those around you safe and happy on the water this summer. Learn to swim the best thing anyone can do to stay safe in and around the water is to learn to swim Never swim alone Watch children around any area of water, no matter how shallow children need constant adult supervision in and around any water Pay attention to local weather conditions and forecasts and stop swimming or boating at the first sign of bad weather Enter the water feet first enter the water headfirst only when the area is clearly marked for diving and has no obstructions Do not mix alcohol with swimming, diving or boating Wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal floatation device (PFD) if you are a child or inexperienced swimmer in or around the water Be certain there is an approved PFD for each passenger in a boat Tell someone your plans before going out on a boat Keep toys out and away from a pool when not in use toys can attract young children into a pool Watch out for the dangerous too s too tired, too cold, too far from safety, too much sun, too much strenuous activity (Red Cross)

4 PEN BAY SOCCER CLUB TRYOUTS FOR FALL SOCCER SUNDAY, JUNE 14 TH All teams will have a tryout each weekend. All tryouts will be held at the Pitch on Route 90 in Warren, unless noted otherwise. Players should make at least one of the tryout dates or make arrangements to be seen by the their prospective team coach. Players must register BEFORE attending the tryout. Registration is now open. Click on Pen Bay Soccer Club s website s register tab to be directed to our new online registration system through GotSoccer. The Pen Bay Club fee is $90 (not including uniform) and can be paid at the time of registration. Scholarships are available. UNION REC SWIMMING LESSONS AT BEAVER LODGE Union Rec will again offer swimming lessons this summer at Beaver Lodge. These lessons are open to current residents of Union OR members of Beaver Lodge. The first session will consist of 6 lessons and the second session will be only three classes, swimmers will be assigned level 1-4 depending on age and ability. Session I: Tues & Thurs starrng July 2-21st Session II: Tues & Thurs- Three days only starrng July 23, 28th and 30th. Cost for session 1 - $16 for Union residents $36 for members of Beaver lodge who are not Union residents. Session 2 cost- 10$ for Union residents and $18 for everyone else. Space is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.
