1 Home of the Mustangs! Website: End of the First Quarter Midkota Messenger November 2016 Mission Statement: All Children Will Learn in a Challenging and Nurturing Environment. Superintendent s Column By Mr. Dale Follow us on Facebook: Midkota Public School Friday, October 28, is the end of the first nine weeks. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in Binford on Thursday, November 10, from 3:30-9:30 PM. If you are unable to meet with your child s teacher on this date, please contact the appropriate staff members and make arrangements to discuss your child s academic progress. Athletics The Midkota Mustangs volleyball team will be playing in the District 5 Tournament in LaMoure on October 27, 28, and 31. The girls will play Edgeley-Kulm in first round action on Thursday twenty minutes after game 1 (approximately 4:30 PM). Good Luck volleyball team! Weather As the weather begins to turn colder, we begin to think about the upcoming winter season and what it might bring us this year. Students should dress appropriately for the weather. This includes a winter coat, gloves/ mittens, and snow boots. Elementary students will be going outside for recess when appropriate and all students, whether riding the bus or driving to school, should be prepared for the winter weather. All weather-related school announcements will be sent through the automated notification system. Parents should make sure that the school has the telephone numbers in our system for any number that you want to be called home, cell phone, grandparents/daycare, etc. Announcements will also be sent to the television and radio stations in our area. November Calendar Nov. 7, 8 & 10 Region Volleyball Tournament in Ellendale November 10 Parent-Teacher Conferences, Binford, 3:30-9:30 PM November 11 Veteran s Day, No school November 14 Girls Basketball practice begins Nov. 24 & 25 Thanksgiving, No School

2 Thank you to Tom Spafford for generously donating elementary school supplies in memory of his wife, Linda. Each year, Linda was always so willing to purchase needed items for students in need! Her generosity will always be remembered! Midkota School Christmas Concerts The Christmas concerts for Midkota Schools are on the calendar. Make plans now to attend. The elementary concert, A Holly, Jolly Christmas will be on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 in the Binford gymnasium. Please have your student dressed up NO blue jeans or casual t-shirts, please. The high school band and the junior high and senior high choirs will perform in concert on Friday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 in the Glenfield gym. That s Christmas To Me will present a variety of Christmas and seasonal music that says Christmas to them. They will be attired in their formal wear: boys in black pants with white shirts with collars, black socks and shoes; girls in black tops and black slacks or skirts and black shoes. The school will provide ties for the boys. 9 Midkota 2016 FBLA Fall Conference Left to Right: Victoria Vollmer, McKenna Frappier, Mikayla Donohue, Jade Boote, Charlotte Dalman On October 3rd and 4th, four Midkota Seniors students attended the North Dakota FBLA Fall Leadership Conference in Bismarck. While there, they met new people, learned the new rules of FBLA, and how to become better leaders in their community. A great speaker from Tennessee encouraged members to get involved and to make life interesting by viewing others perspective. This FBLA year is sure to be a great one with Midkota s new advisor, Kristi Halverson. Viewed in the picture above are the elected officers for the FBLA club. Due to the rules only the elected officers were able to attend the Fall Conference, but at the spring conference in April all Midkota FBLA members will be able to attend. Overall the students have enjoyed being in FBLA and can t wait to see what this new year brings! -By Chapter Reporter Victoria Vollmer
