1 COURSE REGISTRATION Course registration for the school year opens Wednesday, November 11. Information about the process and directions to enter course requests will be sent home on Monday, November 9 via Parent Link, Naviance and the Orange and Black ing list. The information will also be posted on the East home page. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9 THE GETAWAY Come for bread and cookies on Monday in the Getaway! BOYS BASKETBALL Tryouts for the Boys Basketball team are Monday, November 9. Freshman tryouts are at 2:45 in the Sports Complex, Sophomore tryouts are at 5:30 in the Back Gym, and Varsity tryouts are at 6:00 PM in the Main Gym. MATH TEAM Math Team meets in room B126 at 2:30 PM today. JAZZ BAND CONCERT There will be a Jazz Choir Concert at 7:30 PM in the Norris Cultural Arts Center on Monday, November 9. Come on out! Biddle will be working with us to begin creating glass panels for our very own East glass art window. Please remember your $10 semester fee if you haven t paid already. ORCHESTRA CONCERT Join us for the Orchestra Concert on Thursday, November 12 at 7:00 PM in the Norris Cultural Arts Center! SAINTS HELP WANTED: STCE is participating in an Honor Walk on Thursday, November 12 to support the St. Charles Arts Council Veterans Day celebration. The Honor Walk means that we will line the sidewalk from The Office to The Arcada and help honor the veterans with applause and thank you s. Wear red, white & blue. Bring a flag to wave! Meet at Door #1 at 5:00 p.m. We ll board the bus and be dropped off at The Office and stretch ourselves down to The Arcada. At 6:30 we ll arrive back here at East and celebrate with a pizza party. PRACTICE MATH ACT TESTS Upcoming dates for practice Math ACT tests in the Little Theater include Tuesday, December 8, Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday, March 3. Testing will take place from 2:30 PM to 3:40PM. Sign up with your math teacher! ELECTIVES Registration for the school year begins November 11. Remember to check out the elective choices that were featured on our FYI day! Your counselor will be scheduling an appointment with you to make your course selections for next year. THINK ABOUT LATIN CLUB or CLASS Latin is what you should take. No speeches will you make! Instead, we like to translate. No hate...it s so great! PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on November 23 from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Sign ups are open on Home Access Center. Please see the attached letter from Principal Charlie Kyle and the directions to sign up. REPORT CARDS Friday, October 23 marked the end of first quarter. We no longer print report cards to mail home, as they are accessible on HAC and can be printed from there. Ask your respective teachers for a pass to work on writing assignments for any content area. We are open during all lunch hours. Make the write decision! 4 SAINTS GIVE BACK The Turkey Drive has begun. We are going to provide 75 complete meals for needy families in the St. Charles area. If you are interested in donating a turkey or other food item, please return the flyer in this Orange & Black to the Student Activities office by Friday, November 13. Please bring your donated food items to the Student Activities office any time before Thursday, November 19. Dinners will be delivered on Friday, November 20. Mrs. Dandre needs volunteers for the Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. 30 drivers are needed during 8th hour on Friday, November 20 to bring turkey dinners to Anderson and Munhall Elementary schools. If you are interested in driving, please sign up for this service project in the Student Activities office. ANGEL TREE Here s a wonderful opportunity to help some children in the Fox Valley area get presents for Christmas! Pick up a tag from the Angel Tree in the Student Activities office, shop for that child, and return UNWRAPPED gifts with the attached tag by Friday, December 4 to the Student Council office in room B203 or the Student Activities office. Tags are available now. Watch for information in upcoming weeks on Operation Holiday Cards too. Thanks in advance for your support! STUDENT COUNCIL FOOD DRIVE The STCE Student Council is helping the St. Charles Salvation Army by holding a food drive. Flyers were delivered on Saturday, November 7 and the food will be picked up on Saturday, November 14. See the flyer in this Orange & Black for more details. Thank you in advance for your support! OJT FUNDRAISER On The Job Training (OJT) students are hosting a Yankee Candle fundraiser. These Yankee candles are awesome! The candles make a great gift for all your holiday gettogethers, parties, grab bags, or just to have around the house. Please see the flyer in this Orange & Black with our group number for OJT to receive a percentage of your purchases. You can order online or submit orders to OJT. Please turn all orders in to an OJT student or Mrs. Denise Luecker in the Special Education office by Wednesday, November 13. YOUNG HEARTS FOR LIFE SCREENING St. Charles East High School is partnering with the Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) Cardiac Screening Program, a not for profit organization affiliated with Advocate Charitable Foundation to offer free electrocardiograms (ECGs) to the high school students on December 10, Please visit to register your student online by November 30, 2015 or fill out and return the form in this Orange & Black to the Student Activities Office. WE NEED YOUR HELP: Over 100 adult volunteers are needed to help complete ECG testing for the students during a school day for this large event.
