Thanks, Frank! I can t thank Bob Molloy enough for all he s done to improve the club s communica on systems. He is in charge of the Website, our Yahoo Group and is now working on the club s IT capabili es. We soon will have a new digital Restaurant system and be er internet access on the docks. Thanks, Bob! The ships store is fully stocked with new merchandise. Be sure to check it out. You can also order anything you want in different colors and sizes. Just contact Supply Officer, George Braun, for details. gbraun@htamericas.com or If you look on the veranda, you will see some new chairs. Many thanks go out to the commi ee: Sail Program Chair Jeff Ronald, Mary Schorse, Julie Co age and Paul Miller, and of course, Bob Gamble. Thanks Bob, for all your hard work. 3

Mother s day Brunch was a great success. Chef Ernie, Kim, Chrissy and the crew outdid themselves. It was a beau ful day to sit on the veranda and enjoy the view. Hopefully, the weather will stay nice enough for everyone to get their boats in their slips and start to enjoy the water. Looking forward to a fun and safe boa ng season. 12 Memorial Day Cruise Details Now that opening day has come and gone at NERYC, it s me to start planning for our Memorial Day cruise. The cruise is to the Bal more Yacht Club in Essex Maryland. This is BYC's opening day weekend and they throw a party and welcome visi ng yacht clubs who cruise in. There are plenty of things to do the whole weekend. Trip details are as follows. We can arrive a er 9:00 AM on Saturday and stay un l Monday. If people are interested in leaving Friday night to anchor out at a spot on the way like S ll Pond, or Worton Creek, let me know and I'll try to coordinate a group. We will figure out ac vi es we want to par cipate in as a club such as our own dock party, and leave free me for everyone to do whatever they want. Alex Szep has offered to arrange a golf ou ng at a nearby golf course, so if you are interested let me or Alex know (alexszep@gmail.com). I want everyone to know that the BYC is in Essex, Maryland on the Middle River and is not anywhere near where the unrest that was in Bal - more. So, no worries there. See their website (h p:// moreyachtclub.org/) for more informa on on their loca on and for local hotels for those who want to travel by land. Please let me know if you are interested in a ending. I'll be needing to give them some es mate of our par cipa on in the near future. Pcmiller0124@gmail.com Paul Miller R/C 12

Hello Members Our 2015 yach ng season has begun! With our Opening Day behind us we are now in full swing of our club s opera on and yach ng season with a wide range of ac vi es scheduled on our calendar. Please check it out. Before I get into highligh ng a few items, I want to take a moment and thank the many members who have volunteered their me improving and preparing our club. It is no secret that our club s success is a func on of how we, as members, volunteer our talent, me and energy to make things happen. Several members and affiliates have done just that over a couple of weekends in April and May. At the risk of not capturing everyone, I would like to name several folks that helped out during each of our workdays in April and May and on Opening Day: Glenn & Miriam Davis, Dave Brzezowski, Phil Grava, George & Suzanne Braun, Ed Kennedy, Joe Volpe, Karla Shantz, John Murray, Dennis & Be y Cimino, Bill Dallas, Ceil Keenan, Peter Messikomer, Jon Fowler, Ma Sheen, Chris Reno, Cliff Shaw, Paul & Laura Miller, Jeff Ronald, Bill Doyle, Barry & Jen Lo er, Paul Carrick, Richard and Jane Kane, Rick, Sue & Kyle Hanson, Brian & Ma Fuchs, John Margan, Betsey & Gary Denapoli, Steve Young, Frank & Ceil Kennan, Darlene Hamlin, Judy and John Murray, and members of both the US Sailing Team and Coast Guard Auxiliary - Thank you for your help preparing our club for the season and for your help with Opening Day! Through the hard work of volunteers I hope, when you are at our club, you do reflect upon the wonderful atmosphere, both inside and outside, and truly enjoy what the club has to offer. 18

I par cularly hope you enjoy the Adirondack Chairs that now adorn our lawn where you may comfortably relax and take in ac vi es happening around the club, look down the North East River pondering life or catch one of the beau ful sunsets. Thanks John and Judy Murray for contribu ng the new chairs and for pu ng new life into chairs donated by Steve Young. I also hope you enjoy the movie library on the second floor donated by Dave & Peg Brzezowski in the beau fully finished Op bookshelf cra ed by Frank Wile. The upstairs now is setup to be quite a gaming room with TV, pool table, ping pong table, foosball table, card table and an assortment of games to enjoy. Please take advantage of this area with your friends and family. I was asked during Opening Day if our club s affairs are in order and I responded yes, they are in order with the help of our members. Your club is ready to enjoy! Opening Day Weekend began with the annual Margaretville Party including excellent food, socializing and dancing to a DJ on Friday evening. Saturday brought simply amazing weather. The day started with setup and such for the a ernoon ceremonies and with Race Commi ee George Braun and Dave Brzezowski ge ng off our first Spring Race with wonderful winds in the 5 to 10 knot range. Gary and Betsy Denapoli showed their sailing prowess aboard Arrow by taking first place in the non-spin class finishing closely ahead of Nigel & Joanne Veater aboard Therapy. In the Spin class, Bill Johnson aboard Crazed Weasel took the Spin class finish ahead of Barry & Jen Lo er on Lo ery. 19

The wind was perfect and the racing was wonderful to watch from the upwind mark. 20

NERYC s 86 th Opening Day ceremonies were held at 4pm. It is hard to imagine that our club has successfully weathered 86 years right here on the North East River. I had a chance to reminisce with past Commodores about its history over a champagne toast recognizing and thanking them for their contribu ons and service. In the early years, NERYC was a des na on for folks up and down the Bay to visit each weekend. North East had very li le in terms of restaurants so NERYC was a very a rac ve place to socialize. A common theme reflected with each person that I ve spoken with is if these walls could talk. Over the years many people have volunteered, served on the board, or have served as an officer taking your club forward. Many trials, tribula ons, and successes have been experienced and we thrive today 86 years later. Quite an amazing story that con nues to unfold. For new members not familiar with opening day ceremonies I can share that the formal Opening Day ceremonies are a tradi on prac ced at yacht clubs all over the Chesapeake Bay and many yacht clubs across the country. Officers visit in uniforms and protocol is observed and is a prac ce that stems from tradi on. Officers from NERYC visit other yacht club to par cipate in their opening day ceremonies. The opening day tradi ons are changing in some clubs as clubs see a change in their membership interests. At NERYC we con nue the Opening Day welcoming each new season with a formal affair. We welcome club members, guests and visitors from other yacht clubs. We recognize passed members of our club and we fire the cannon to start each new season. I look forward to seeing you at the club and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere the club has to offer. May we have fair winds, inexpensive fuel, and a spring that provides us many warm sunny days. Happy Yach ng! Bob Gamble 21
