Following the American game, Navy will play each of the nine other Patriot League members one more time. Alumni Game to be Held aturday; 1994 quad to be Honored at Halftime The annual Navy men s basketball alumni game will be played on aturday at 3:30 PM at Alumni Hall. Admission is free to the game. Fans attending the game must have a military ID to drive on to the Naval Academy grounds. If you do not have a military ID, you can take the free shuttle bus from the press box side of Navy- Marine orps Memorial tadium starting at 3 PM. There is a $5 charge to park at the stadium. Twenty-five former players will be coming back for the game, including 20 that will be playing in the contest. even players from the 1994 NAA Tournament team will be playing in the alumni game. The players are back at UNA for the 20-year reunion of the NAA Tournament Appearance. That team will be honored at halftime of the men s basketball game against Holy ross. Navy went in 1994 and finished 9-5 in the Patriot League. Navy defeated Army (96-84), Holy ross (93-91 in overtime) and olgate (78-76) to win the Patriot League Tournament before falling to Missouri (76-53) in the NAA Tournament. Midshipmen torylines Navy is coming off a overtime loss to Lehigh on Wednesday. Zach Fong s seven three pointers against Bryant on Dec. 14 are a Navy freshman record and are tied for eighth-most among all players. Fong ranks ninth on the Navy freshman record list for three pointers made (29). Fong is ninth on the freshman charts for three pointers attempted (76). Venturini is 10th in school history in career three-point field goal attempts (348). Venturini s 114 career three pointers made are seven away from tying Michael Burd for 12th place. Worth mith ranks 12th in school history with 76 career blocks. mith has 703 career points and he is 35 points away from moving into the top 40. James Loupos has played 106 career games and is five away from moving into a tie for 12th place (111). mith Has areer Day in OT Loss to Lehigh Navy junior forward Worth mith had a career day against Lehigh on Jan. 22, but Navy fell short to Lehigh in overtime, mith scored a career-high 26 points and made 8-of-9 free throw attempts. He scored Navy s final nine points of the second half. mith pulled down seven rebounds, with six being on the offensive end, and also set new careerhighs with five steals and 39 minutes played. Freshman Grant Vermeer had a season-high 13 points with 10 coming during a 13-0 Navy run in the first half. Lehigh s Mackey McKnight s game-winning layup with 1.1 seconds left in overtime and he also forced overtime with a game-tying layup with 19 seconds left in regulation. Two Mids uspended For the Remainder of the eason ophomore guards Tilman Dunbar and Phil Guglielmo were suspended for the remainder of the season on January 14 for a violation of Naval Academy rules. Dunbar and Guglielmo had been originally suspended indefinitely on December 27. At the time of the original suspension, Dunbar was Navy s leader in scoring (11.9 ppg) and assists (5.0 apg). Dunbar started the first 10 games of the season at point guard. Guglielmo saw action in one game this season, playing one minute at Bryant.

Venturini made eight threes (8-of-9) against Lafayette on Jan. 5 to rank third in program history for most treys in a game. Fong s seven three pointers (7-10) at Bryant on Dec. 14 are tied for the eighth most in a single game in school history by any player. Fong holds the Navy freshman record for most three pointers in a game. The Navy school record for most threes in a game is nine. The record is shared by Greg prink (vs. Brown, ) and Michael Burd (vs. Mount t. Mary s, ). Navy Holds Off Bucknell, Navy built a 16-point second-half lead and held off a late rally for a win over defending Patriot League hampion Bucknell on Jan. 15. Navy snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Bison while rebounding well from its loss to Army the previous aturday. Navy used a 13-0 run to take a 16-point lead (56-40) with 4:54 remaining, but Bucknell fought back with a 21-6 spurt that included outscoring Navy 10-0 in the final 3:01. Bucknell had fouls to give on the ensuing possession and eventually sent sophomore Kendall Knorr to the line for a one-and-one with 24 seconds remaining. Knorr missed the free throw and Bucknell took the ball over down one, but Knorr stole the ball and was fouled again. However, Knorr missed the front end of another one-and-one and Bucknell got the defensive rebound. till trailing by one, Bucknell s ameron Ayers missed a three pointer with six seconds left. Hass got the offensive rebound and shot a three from the left wing, but Knorr got a piece of it and as the shot came up well short of the rim, senior James Loupos wisely batted the ball back to half court as time expired to seal the win for Navy. Navy forced Bucknell to turn the ball over 19 times, the visitors season-high, and held a 10-0 advantage in points off turnovers in the first half and overall. Navy also held a 14-0 edge in fast break points and led in points in the paint. Venturini, playing his first career game at the point guard position, scored a game-high 14 points and had four assists. mith had 13 points and seven rebounds and Fong added 10 points. Mids Fall to Army, A 12-0 run to open the second half keyed Army to a win over Navy on aturday Jan. 11. A season-best crowd of 5,528 fans watched the B ports Network televised contest in Alumni Hall. Navy led at halftime, 24-20, but Army opened the second half on a 12-0 spurt to erase the deficit and stake out an eight-point lead. Freshman guard Michael Brown then ignited Navy to a 14-4 run to retake the lead at Brown hit two three pointers and had a layup during the run and sophomore guard Kendall Knorr and junior guard Brandon Venturini each sunk three pointers. The two teams stayed even for the next 10 minutes of the second half as the game saw eight ties and five lead changes. Army took the lead for good at on a Tanner Plomb layup. After Navy cut the lead to 51-49, Kyle Wilson hit a jumper and then a big three pointer on the next possession as the Black Knights began to pull away. Army would then make 4-of-6 free throws in the final 31 seconds to hold on for the five-point lead. Brown had a career-high 15 points for Navy off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting and pulled down five rebounds. Venturini scored nine points and Knorr had seven points, seven rebounds and four assists. Navy truggles Offensively in Loss at Boston University Navy s first Patriot League game against conference newcomer Boston University was one that Navy would like to soon forget. Navy struggled mightily from the floor in the defeat in Agganis Arena on Jan. 7 Navy held the Patriot League preseason favorites to a season-low 55 points but wasn t able to take advantage on its own offensive end. Navy set two school records for offensive futility, including lowest field goal percentage in a game (.208) and fewest field goals made (11). The Mids field-goal percentage in the first half (.167) tied for the second-worst in a half in school history.

Navy s 32 points in the game was the fewest since scoring 25 in a loss to Penn tate on Feb. 6, Venturini Named NAAA Athlete of the Week Junior guard Brandon Venturini has been named the NAAA Athlete of the Week presented by Rolls-Royce for the week ending January 5. Venturini scored in double figures in three games last week, averaging 18.0 points against UMB, Loyola and Lafayette. Venturini scored a career-high 28 points on 8-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc in Navy s win over Lafayette on Jan. 5. Venturini was also named the NAAA Athlete of the Week on Jan. 14, Venturini s hooting Lifts Navy to Home Win Over Lafayette Junior guard Brandon Venturini scored a career-high 28 points and made 8-of-9 three pointers to lift Navy to a conference win over Lafayette in Alumni Hall on Jan. 5. Venturini was 6-of-6 on three pointers in the second half and helped Navy shoot 11-of-14 from beyond the arc in the contest. Navy s.786 three-point shooting percentage is the second-best single-game mark in school history. Venturini s eight threes were one shy of the Navy school record. He eclipsed his previous career highs of 23 points and seven three pointers, which both came against Lafayette on Jan. 12, Navy used a late 14-5 run that was ignited by two Venturini treys to pull away from Lafayette. The win snapped Navy s four-game losing streak. Fong ets Navy Freshman Three-Point Record at Bryant Zach Fong set a freshman school record with seven three pointers but Navy suffered a overtime loss at Bryant on December 14. Fong was 7-of-10 on three-point field goals and scored a team-high 21 points. Fong hit two three pointers in the final 11 seconds as Navy erased a four-point deficit to force overtime. Fong hit a trey with 11.0 seconds left to pull Navy within one and after two Bryant free throws, Fong drilled another trey with just 4.6 seconds remaining to tie the game at Fong made his seventh three pointer in the overtime period, but Bryant responded with a 13-2 run in overtime to put the game out of reach. Fong established new career-highs with his 21 points and 20 minutes played. Avila in Dunbar Named Patriot League Player of the Week on December 9 ophomore point guard Tilman Dunbar was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on December 9 for his play in Navy s win over The itadel. Dunbar notched career-highs of 28 points and eight rebounds as Navy won its third game in a row and its fifth out of its last six last Wednesday. Dunbar also had seven assists, two steals and one block. Dunbar shot 7-of-12 from the floor and was 14-of-17 from the free throw line. The 14 made free throws are a career high and he made eight free throws in the final 74 seconds of the game to seal the win. Dunbar, a sophomore, earns his first player of the week award after claiming four rookie of the week accolades from the conference last season. He was also named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team last year. This is Navy s first Patriot League Player of the Week honor since Knorr eals Win Over UME ophomore guard Kendall Knorr scored a career-high 17 points, including seven in the final 22.5 seconds, to lead Navy to a win over Maryland Eastern hore on Nov. 26 at Alumni Hall. Venturini hines at Virginia Junior guard Brandon Venturini was one of Navy s lone bright spots in a loss at A-member Virginia on Nov. 19. Venturini scored 15 points and hit four three-pointers. It was the fourth-straight double figure scoring game for Venturini, who scored 11 against aint Francis U, 16 against Goucher and 10 against Binghamton. Team Effort in Home Opening Victory Against Goucher The Navy men s basketball team put its offensive potential on display in a sound victory over Division III Goucher on November 13. Dehellis oaching taff Third-year head coach Ed Dehellis has a wealth of experience on his staff with his five assistant coaches. Associate head coach Dan Earl has been with Dehellis for all three years at Navy. Earl played at Penn tate from and served as an assistant coach at his alma mater under Dehellis from Assistant coach Ernie Nestor is in his second season at Navy. Nestor came to Annapolis after serving as an assistant at Missouri during the season. Nestor was the head coach at George Mason from and was the head coach at Elon from Nestor also had two stints as an assistant at Wake Forest ( and ). He comes to Navy after successful stints at East Tennessee tate and Penn tate, and is the 19th head basketball coach in the 107-year history of Navy basketball. In , the Mids posted an 8-23 overall record, winning five more games than it did in his first year in Annapolis while playing one of America s youngest lineups. Dehellis, who is 55, led Penn tate to a record and a fourth place finish (9-9) in the Big Ten in , including the Nittany Lions first appearance in the Big Ten hampionship Game and the school s first trip to the NAA Tournament since Dehellis came to Navy after a very successful eight-year run at his alma mater, Penn tate.
