Seattle University Only Team to Make First Second Round Appearance in 2014: After winning their second straight Western Athletic Conference title, Seattle University women s soccer (15-4-2) recorded a program first, defeating Washington State, 2-1 in double overtime in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Marking the program s first NCAA Tournament victory, the Redhawks are the only team making their first all-time appearance in the round of 32. SU will face South Carolina on Friday, Nov. 21 at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT in Chapel Hill, N.C. with the winner facing the winner of No. 6 North Carolina/Colorado on Sunday. Sophie Groff (6 g, 3 a, 15 pts) and Savannah McCaskill (5 g, 5a, 15 pts) lead the Gamecocks offensively while, in goal, Sabrina D Angelo has allowed just 13 goals in 22 games for a 0.58 GAA, making 54 saves and recording 10 shutouts. D Angelo, alongside SU s Stephanie Verdoia, is also one of 10 finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award. Seattle U Defeats Washington State in NCAA Tournament First Round: Stephanie Verdoia put Seattle U ahead in the 33rd minute, dribbling past a defender and beating the WSU keeper from eight yards out to give SU a 1-0 lead through halftime. In the 80th minute, Beau Bremer crossed the ball in to Mariah Powers who tied the game, 1-1, ultimately sending the match into overtime. Natasha Howe would score the golden goal in the 108th minute, dribbling past a pair of defenders and beating

During her 17 coaching seasons, she boasts 15 winning seasons, establishing her as the winningest coach in SU women s soccer history with a overall record and a.699 winning percentage following the 2013 season. She coached her 200th career win on Sept. 18, 2011 in a 3-1 victory over San Diego State. Seattle University s former two-time NAIA All- American soccer player came home to her alma mater as the head coach of the Redhawks women s soccer program over a decade ago. She has coached the Redhawks to three NCAA Division II Tournament appearances (2004, 2006 and 2007). A 2004 Far West Coach of the Year, she boasts three NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II honorees, two All-Pacific Region and 18 Far West Region selections, three GNAC Players of the Year, eight GNAC all-conference team honorees and 27 players who have earned NAIA All-America accolades. Her teams have also boasted great academic success in her tenure, including a 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year, the 2011 NSCAA Team Academic Award, five CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans and 20 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-District selections. Woodward was honored at Seattle U s Annual Alumni Awards Celebration in April 2012, receiving the 2012 University Service Award. Record-Breaking: On Oct. 26 (Senior Day) vs. Chicago State, Senior Stephanie Verdoia broke both the Seattle U all-time career records for points and goals. With her goal in the 7th minute, she set the new record for points and with her goal in the 34th minute, she set the new record for goals. Verdoia surpassed Trisha Tateyama ( ) for the points record, who recorded 116 during her SU career and Nichole Sauvageau ( ), who recorded 45 goals during her Redhawk career. Going into this weekend, she is the only DI women s soccer player to rank in the top 10 in both goals and assists. Verdoia Passes Seattle U Single Season Goals Record: On Nov. 9, 2014 in the WAC Tournament championship game Stephanie Verdoia became Seattle U s all-time single season goal scoring 5

6 leader now with 22 in 2014 going into the NCAA Tournament Second Round. She surpassed 20 goals, recorded both by Ingrid Gunnestad in 1990 and Trisha Tateyama in Ending On a High Note: In their final four matches heading into the NCAA Tournament (two regular season, two WAC tournament), they outscored their opponents 25-0 with four straight shutouts, recording shutouts in five of their last six contests. WAC All-Tournament Team: After winning the WAC tournament title for the second straight season, Stephanie Verdoia was named Tournament MVP while Isabella Guerry, Kiana Kraft, and Julia Moravec were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Redhawks Lead All-WAC Teams With Six, Verdoia Repeats as Offensive POY: Senior captain Stephanie Verdoia earned her second straight Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year title while Seattle U led all teams with six All-WAC Selections. Verdoia Named Senior CLASS Award Top 10 Finalist: Announced as a top 30 candidate in September, Stephanie Verdoia was named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, one of the most prestigious awards for collegiate senior student-athletes, which celebrates accomplishments in four areas - classroom, community, character, and competition. Fan voting comprises 1/3 of the total vote for the winner, which will be announced at the 2014 Women s College Cup championships in December. Fans can vote once per day until Nov. 24 at WAC Winning Streak: Seattle U women s soccer recorded a 15-game regular season conference winning streak and nation-leading 17 total conference game winning streak (including conference tournament games) from Sept. 20, 2013 to Oct. 5, Verdoia Named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I Women s National Player of the Week (Sept. 29-Oct. 5): After scoring both game-winners at Grand Canyon and Bakersfield on Oct. 3 and 5, as well as recording a career high seven points (two goals, three assists) at CSUB, Stephanie Verdoia was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I Women s Soccer National Player of the Week. She was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week for her efforts. Racine Named to CS360 Weekly Honor Roll: For a pair of assists in the team s undefeated weekend vs. Portland on Sept. 25 (T, 1-1) and Utah Valley on Sept. 28 (W, 2-1), Madeline Racine was named to the CollegeSoccer360 Weekly Honor Roll. The freshman defender assisted both Natasha Howe s go-ahead goal vs. Portland as well as Taylor Ritzman s equalizing goal vs. Utah Valley. Verdoia Named Senior CLASS Award Top 30 Candidate: Stephanie Verdoia was named one of 30 DI women s soccer student-athletes across the country as a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award. The award focuses on four particular areas - community, classroom, character, and competition - and is one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate athletics. The list will be narrowed down to a top 10 in October with the winner announced at the 2014 College Cup championships in December. Verdoia on Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 List: Stephanie Verdoia ranks No. 93 on the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Women s National Top 100. In the midseason version of the list, she moved up to No. 85. Seattle U Chosen as Preseason WAC Favorites: In a vote of the league s eight head coaches, Seattle U women s soccer was chosen to win the 2014 Western Athletic Conference women s soccer title, repeating their title win from last season. Stephanie Verdoia, the reigning WAC Offensive Player of the Year, was also chosen as Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The Redhawks received all seven possible first place votes, as coaches could not vote for their own teams. SU also led all teams with five Preseason All-WAC honorees including redshirt senior Jacqui Wallis, senior Verdoia, juniors Kelly Beck and Brianna Smallidge, and redshirt sophomore Natasha Howe. College Sports Madness Names Preseason All-WAC Teams: College Sports Madness followed suit after the official WAC preseason poll, naming Stephanie Verdoia Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and reigning WAC Coach of the Year Julie Woodward the Preseason Coach of the Year. CSM also named Brianna Smallidge Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Verdoia, Natasha Howe, and Smallidge were named College Sports Madness Preseason First Team All-Conference while Taylor Ritzman, Jacqui Wallis, Kiana Kraft, and Kelly Beck were named CSM Preseason Second Team All-Conference. OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi All- Tournament Team: Brianna Smallidge, Isabelle Butterfield, Isabella Guerry, and Stephanie Verdoia were named to the All-Tournament Team of Hawaii s OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi (Aug. 30-Sept. 1). Verdoia Receives Joe Kearney Award: Stephanie Verdoia was named the female recipient of the Joe Kearney Award from the Western Athletic Conference. Named in honor of the former WAC commissioner, the awards are given annually to the top male and female student-athletes in the WAC, as voted upon by athletics directors and senior woman administrators at each institution.
