Seattle U to Honor 2004 Team and Retire Pair of Jersey Numbers: After being nationally ranked for the first time since returning to DI competition (No. 22) last week, the Redhawks, as well as their pair of opponents this weekend, are receiving votes in the Sept. 9 edition of the NSCAA National Poll. This weekend, the Redhawks turn their sights to UPenn and UConn in their regular season home opening weekend, a weekend in which several special recognitions and ceremonies will take place. UConn Match to Be Broadcast on NSCAATV: Seattle U s match vs. UConn on Sunday, Sept. 14 will be broadcast on NSCAATV and fans who can not attend the match in person can follow the action at www. nscaatv.com/c1821. Ticket Information: Fans can purchase single game tickets starting an hour prior to each match at the ticket booth at the main Championship Field entrance (corner of 14th and E Cherry). Prices are as follows: $7 for general admission, $5 for youth (17 and under) and seniors (65+). On Friday, the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship Team will be honored as this season marks the 10 year anniversary of the historic season. On Sunday, the numbers #3 and #9 will be retired to honor 1997 NAIA National Player of the Year Tom Hardy and 2004 NCAA Division II National Player of the Year Bobby McAlister. Camper Reunion Set for Sunday: Campers from the summer 2014 Seattle U Nike men s soccer camp season are welcome to join the Redhawks on Sunday for the match. If campers wear their camp t-shirt, they will receive free admission. Scouting UPenn: Last season, the Quakers earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, battling to a 1-1 draw and falling in the first round to Providence in penalty kicks, 3-1. Reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and 2014 team captain Duke Lacroix was named No. 82 on the Preseason Top-100 Players List on TopDrawer- Soccer.com. To open 2014 last weekend, Penn shut out Drexel, 2-0, and downed Central Connecticut, 4-3, as freshman Austin Kuhn was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week and senior Lacroix was selected Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week.

The 2013 campaign was one of the most successful in program history as Fewing was named Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, taking the Redhawks from an start to winning both the WAC Regular Season and Tournament titles. With the tournament win, the team became Seattle U s first men s team to qualify for an NCAA DI tournament since March 1969 and the first to win an NCAA DI tournament game since March 1964 with a 2-1 come-from-behind First Round win at Creighton on Nov. 21. He helped develop both senior forward Miguel Gonzalez, named WAC Offensive Player of the Year, and senior goalkeeper Jake Feener, who led the nation in DI saves and saves per game throughout the entire 2013 season. Fewing was the head coach of the Seattle University men s soccer team from 1988 through the 2005 season, when he accumulated a record of (.628) during his 18 seasons at the helm. He led Seattle U to the 1997 NAIA National Championship and the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship. Most recently, Fewing was the head coach of the Kitsap Pumas of the Professional Development League (PDL) in 2010 and 2011, helping the Pumas win the 2011 PDL National Championship. He co-authored the book Coaching Principles for Development of Championship Teams, and he has been an analyst during the television broadcasts of Seattle Sounders FC matches. Fewing was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1997 and NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year in He earned regional coach of the year honors five times and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) coach of the year recognition three times. He guided the men s soccer program through the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II, posting a (.745) record in five seasons at the NCAA Division II level. Players of the Week: WAC Players of the Week Aug Shane Haworth (Def.) Featured Student-Athletes Aug Jeff Rose Scouting UConn: In 2013, UConn advanced to the NCAA tournament quarterfinals, falling to Virginia, after defeating No. 1 UCLA in penalty kicks in the Third Round. Goalkeeper Andre Blake, the first keeper to be picked No. 1 in the MLS SuperDraft in 2014 was named as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, one of the most prestigious soccer awards each season. Associate head coach John Deeley, in his 18th season with the Huskies, was named National Men s Assistant Coach of the Year by the NSCAA. As of Sept. 11, the Huskies have faced two other ranked teams to open the 2014 season including then #17 Coastal Carolina 3

4 and then #23 Wake Forest, losing both matches by a one goal margin. In between the pair of losses, UConn shut out Stony Brook, 3-0. They also faced nationally ranked Washington on Friday evening. Cyle Larin has scored three of the Huskies six goals to start the year. Seattle U Chosen as Preseason WAC Title Winners: In a vote by the league s 10 head coaches, the Redhawks were picked to repeat their 2014 WAC men s socer championship from just a season ago. They received seven of nine first place votes cast, leading with a total 76 points. Kyle Bjornethun represented the Redhawks on the Preseason All-WAC Team. The entire poll can be found on the bottom left side of page three. College Sports Madness Names Preseason All-WAC Teams: CSM named Ian Hines-Ike and Kyle Bjornethun to the Preseason First Team and Hamza Haddadi and Shane Mahvi to the Preseason Second Team. Head coach Pete Fewing was also named Preseason WAC Coach of the Year. Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic: Jeff Rose, Ian Hines-Ike, Shane Haworth, and Brady Ballew were named to the All-Tournament Team of College of Charleston s Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic (Aug. 29, 31). Ballew was named Tournament MVP Redhawk men s Soccer In With the New: The Redhawks will face two new conference opponents in 2014 as Utah Valley adds a men s soccer program for the first time and Incarnate Word joins the Western Athletic Conference as an affiliate member for men s soccer. WAC Tournament: The 2014 WAC Tournament will be hosted by Seattle U at Championship Field on Nov , 16. At the conclusion of the six-team tournament, the winner will receive the league s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 5 2013 Recap: Seattle U won the WAC regular season and tournament titles with an undefeated WAC record. SU made program history with the team s first NCAA Division I tournament appearance and win. The win at Creighton on Nov. 21 marked the first Redhawk men s team to win an NCAA DI tournament game since men s basketball on Mar. 14, At the end of the season, the team earned a spot at No. 25 in the men s DI Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 poll. Jake Feener led the nation in total saves and saves per game. Head coach Pete Fewing was named WAC Coach of the Year, Miguel Gonzalez was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year, and Kyle Bjornethun was named WAC Freshman of the Year. SU led all teams with five All-Conference honorees including Feener, Gonzalez, and Ian Hines-Ike on the first team and Bjornethun and Bobby Segal on the Second Team. Gonzalez led the league in nearly every recordable offensive category including shots, points, goals, and game-winning goals. Feener, Gonzalez, Hines-Ike, and Bjornethun were named to the WAC All-Tournament Team while Feener was named MVP. Michael Roberts was named Capital One Academic All-District First Team, NCAA Division I District VIII was the Redhawks first year in the WAC after the league reinstated men s soccer for the first time since
