(206) 398-GOSU Sacramento State (9/8): With three prior shots in the first half, in the 33rd minute, iguel Gonzalez launched the ball from just past midfield over Sacramento State goalkeeper Cesar Castillo s head to put the Redhawks ahead, 1-0. Just after halftime, in the 47th minute, Gabe Silveira tied the game, 1-1, with a shot from 10 yards out into the bottom right corner. Seattle U had their best opportunity to take the lead in the 52nd minute, as back-to-back-to-back shots by arrell Hannah, Hamza Haddadi and Jeff Rose resulted in a save and two blocks, respectively. Scouting Oregon State (3-1-0): Oregon State is 3-1 going into this weekend s match with shutout victories vs. Cleveland State and UC avis at the dual-site Portland Nike Invitational in week one, as well as their most recent 4-1 win at Oakland. Their single loss was a 1-0 defeat at ichigan State on Sept. 6. aniel Van Vleet and Josh Smith have each scored two goals for the Beavers with att Bersano spending all 360 minutes in Friday, Sept. Steve Simmons, at the helm, is in his fifth season at Oregon State. Scouting Portland (1-2-0): The Pilots recorded a 1-0 win vs. UC avis in the dual-site Portland Nike Invitational to open the season but have since suffered two losses, a 2OT loss vs. Cleveland State and, most recently, a 4-1 loss at Washington. This weekend, Portland is hosting a second dual-site tournament with Oregon State, hosting Air Force and Seattle U in the OSU Hensor/Zaher Nike Classic. Four different Pilots have scored one goal apiece this season and Jaime Velasco leads the team with 10 shots. Justin Baarts has received all three starts in goal, with a 2.45 GAA and a.500 save percentage, while Jason odson made his first appearance of the season vs. Washington. In his 10th season, Bill Irwin serves as irector of Soccer at Portland. The Redhawks topped the Pilots in their last meeting, 4-3, on Sept. 21, 2012 at Championship Field. In his first year back as head coach of the Redhawks, the team played in the PSF conference, as well as taking on strong opponents such as Portland, Gonzaga, UW, and nationally-ranked UC Santa Barbara and New exico. arshall Kosaka earned Second team All-PSF honors, and Jose erlo was recognized for honorable mention all-conference. Six members of the team received PSF All-Academic Honors, a testament to Fewing s emphasis on academics along with athletics. Fewing was the head coach of the Seattle University men s soccer team from 1988 through the 2005 season, when he accumulated a record of (.628) during his 18 seasons at the helm. He led Seattle U to the 1997 NAIA National Championship and the 2004 NCAA ivision II National Championship. ost recently, Fewing was the head coach of the Kitsap Pumas of the Professional evelopment League (PL) in 2010 and 2011, helping the Pumas win the 2011 PL National Championship. He co-authored the book Coaching Principles for evelopment of Championship Teams, and he has been an analyst during the television broadcasts of Seattle Sounders FC matches. Fewing was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 1997 and NCAA ivision II National Coach of the Year in He earned regional coach of the year honors five times and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) coach of the year recognition three times. He guided the men s soccer program through the transition from NAIA to NCAA ivision II, posting a (.745) record in five seasons at the NCAA ivision II level Redhawk men s Soccer ther side was able to score further in regulation, sending the game into overtime, the second such contest for the Redhawks this season. Only three Sacramento State shots resulted from the first overtime, with a purely defensive game in the second overtime, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie, the Redhawks first draw this season. Jake Feener represented Seattle U in goal for all 110 minutes, making eight saves, while Castillo made four saves in goal for the Hornets. Gonzalez led Seattle U with four shots, three on goal, while Chimdum ez led Sacramento State with six shots, two on goal. The Hornets outshot the Redhawks, 20-11, in the match. Gonzalez and Feener were named to the Copa e Causeway All-Tournament team, the twosite tournament hosted by UC avis and Sacramento State over the weekend. UC avis (9/6): In the 8th minute, Nick Grigoriev tapped the ball from the right flank to the top of the penalty box where att Sheldon was waiting to head in the ball for a 1-0 UC avis lead. iguel Gonzalez added a shot 16 seconds later, saved by Aggie goalkeeper Omar Zeenni. Ian Hines-Ike added another shot for the Redhawks, which went over the goal, but the score remained 1-0 at the halftime break. The Aggies opened up the second half with back-to-back shots, both sailing over the goal, while Hamza Haddadi, Jonathan assimino, and Austin Sweeney added shots later in the half for SU, but 3

Five different Redhawks led the team with one shot apiece, while Alex Aguiar led the Aggies with four shots as UC avis outshot Seattle U, In goal, Jake Feener made four saves for Seattle U while Zeenni made two saves for UC avis. elaware (9/1): The Redhawks took the early lead, 1-0, in the third minute as Jeff Rose took a shot seven yards out from center, sinking the ball into the left side for his first career goal. The Blue Hens tied the game in the 12th minute as Guillermo elgado scored his third goal of the season, assisted by Roberto Gimenez and Jaime artinez, from the top left corner. Taking their first lead, elaware s Prince Nartey scored on a penalty kick in the 21st minute to lead, 2-1, which remained the halftime score. Seattle U evened the score at two in the 69th minute as ichael Roberts (Issaquah, Wash.) headed the ball into the net off a corner kick. The game going into overtime, in the 99th minute, elaware s Evan Reed headed the ball into the net off a corner kick by Kyle Nuel, the golden goal, as the Blue Hens took the 3-2 victory. Kyle Bjornethun, Shane ahvi, Ian Hines-Ike, Rose, Jonathan assimino, Brandon arquez, Jordan Bingham, and arrell Hannah all saw their first collegiate action over the weekend. UBC (8/30): Early in the match, in the 10th minute, Pete Caringi drove in his first goal of the season for the Retrievers to give UBC the early lead, 1-0. The goal, assisted by Stephen Ho and Gaeton Caltabiano resulted from a long pass from Caltabiano to Ho, who followed it up with a step and leading pass to Caringi. The Retrievers would add to their score, 2-0, at the 24 minute mark as Caringi scored again, this time assisted on a dish by Kadeem acres. In the 38th minute, iguel Gonzalez would add a goal for the Redhawks to narrow the score, 2-1, which remained the score going into the halftime break. Near the end of the match, in the 84th minute, amadou Kansaye scored an insurance goal, assisted by acres to insure the UBC win, 3-1. The match was also part of the Springhill Suites Arundel ills BWI Kick-Off Classic and Gonzalez and Jeff Rose (Carmichael, Calif.) represented the Redhawks on the All-Tournament team. Leaders of the Pack: Brady Ballew and Renato Bandeira have been chosen as this year s team captains. Nate aligcon Joins Coaching Staff: In Spring 2013, Nate aligcon, an All- American player and top area club soccer coach joined the Seattle U coaching staff as an assistant coach. He was a two-time All-American at Seattle Pacific, helping the Falcons win the 1993 ivision II national championship and advance to three national semifinal games as a center midfielder. He most recently served as head coach of Seattle United B01 Copa and G95 Copa, as well as several other club teams since Let There Be Light: Championship Field, the home of Seattle U men s and women s soccer, will be receiving a significant enhancement in the form of lights. The installation of lights will make night matches possible as early as the middle of the 2013 season. en s Soccer Joins the WAC: In January 2013, the WAC announced that it would again sponsor men s soccer starting with the fall 2013 season. The league is divided into two divisions as follows: East ivision (Air Force, Grand Canyon, Houston Baptist, and Kansas City) and West ivision (Bakersfield, UNLV, San Jose State, and Seattle U). This is the second time the WAC has sponsored men s soccer as it was also part of the conference from Air Force and UNLV competed in the WAC for the first three seasons, while San Jose State competed in all four of those seasons. Preseason WAC Poll: In a poll of the league s eight head coaches, the Redhawks were chosen to finish sixth in the WAC in Bakersfield was chosen to finish first in the conference with five first place votes. iguel Gonzalez and Jake Feener were named to the WAC Preseason All-Conference Team. College Sports adness Names Preseason All-WAC Teams: As chosen by College Sports adness, iguel Gonzalez and Kyle Silva were named Preseason First Team All-WAC while Hamza Haddadi and Austin Sweeney were named to the Second Team Recap: In their final season in the ountain Pacific Sports Federation (PSF), recent graduate arshall Kosaka earned Second Team All-PSF honors and sophomore Jose erlo received Honorable ention All-PSF recognition. Kosaka also earned his third straight PSF All-Academic honor, while senior Bobby Segal earned his second consecutive such honor. First-time honorees included recent graduate evin Thomas, senior Renato Bandeira, redshirt junior Brady Ballew, and junior Kyle Silva. In 2012, head coach Pete Fewing also made his return to Seattle U in his 19th overall season at the helm. WAC Tournament: The 2013 WAC Tournament will be hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo Thursday-Sunday, Nov Besides Grand Canyon, who is not yet eligible for NCAA Championships through their reclassification period, all seven other teams will advance to the conference tournament. The New WAC: With the addition of men s swimming & diving and men s soccer to the Western Athletic Conference, 19 of Seattle U s 20 sports now have a conference home in the WAC. Alongside Idaho and New exico State, SU welcomes six newcomers to the conference including Bakersfield, Utah Valley, Kansas City (UKC), Chicago State, Grand Canyon, and UTPA (Texas-Pan American). Several others join the WAC as affiliate members for men s soccer including San Jose State, UNLV, Air Force, and Houston Baptist. 4
