2 A MESSAGE FROM THE OUT GOING PRESIDENT Ou wih he old and in wih he new! My reign as WABL Presiden has come o an end, so I ve passed he gavel on. Serving as WABL Presiden for he pas wo years was an ineresing and exciing ime for me. As my firs year began, I jumped righ in preparing for he upcoming season while learning my Presidenial duies. The 2006 season was a good year for us, bu I was looking forward o an even beer 2007 season. Las year s season was a special one for WABL, because i marked he 50h Anniversary of he Wes Akron Baseball and Sofball League. No only did we have o prepare for anoher season, we also had o plan special evens o commemorae such a momenous occasion. We had many 50h Anniversary evens hroughou he 2007 season; our firs even was he dedicaion of Resnik Field (formerly Fairlawn Field), and we d like o hank our special guess, including Councilman Bob Keih and he Akron Aeros masco, Orbi. Oher new and special evens during he 2007 season o help celebrae 50 years of WABL included: a reverse raffle and dinner, a 50h Anniversary Celebraion wih he Akron Aeros wih fireworks afer he game, and a WABL alumni picnic and game. As always, 2007 sill had our regular WABL aciviies such as player regisraion, eam ryous and draf, WABL Day wih he Akron Aeros and he Akron Racers, our annual golf ouing scramble, baseball and sofball playoffs, and he grand finale Day of Champs parade and games. I d like o hank our special guess, including Mayor Don Plusquellic, Councilman Bob Keih, and WABL Alumni Jim Daly, who ook ime from heir busy schedules o help WABL celebrae is 50h year by paricipaing in our Day of Champs evens. 5 2007 V.P. of BOYS Baseball Repor The 2007 season was a very special year for our organizaion. I marked he 50h anniversary of WABL: man, woman, and child working ogeher o build a communiy-based baseball and sofball program ha enriches he lives of all involved. From Board members o coaches, communiy leaders o sponsors, and parens o kids all did heir par o make our 50h year a huge success. For his I am deeply graeful. Now, as we move ino he 2008 season, I would like o challenge each and every person affiliaed wih WABL o give jus a lile bi more of hemselves in order o make he nex fify years even bigger and beer. I know ha here is greaness in our organizaion, and ha i requires a whole communiy o bring ou is full poenial. 6 2007 F-League Repor The 2007 WABL season coninued a hree-year affiliaion wih he Norh Akron Chaper of Ohio Ho Sove Baseball. WABL sponsored wo eams in F-League, one made up primarily of 14 year olds and he second consising primarily of 13 year olds. This year s F-League eams were he Aeros, sponsored by he Akron Aeros and managed by Kevin Gruber; and he Indians, sponsored by B.W.L. Engineering and managed by Jesse Cahey. In addiion o Norh Akron, communiies such as Goodyear Heighs, Firesone Park, Hudson, Sow, Tallmadge, and Mogadore rouinely compee in Ho Sove. Our eams play boh home and away games wih all oher eams in he league. I is anicipaed ha mos of he F-League home games for he 2008 season will be played a Perkins No. 2, which is presenly undergoing renovaion. Thanks for your ineres and your suppor. The Norh Akron Chaper of Ohio Ho Sove consiss of eams or 15 and 16 year olds from norheasern Ohio, including he communiies of Norh Akron, Elle, Ravenna, Springfield, Mogadore, Creswood, Aurora, and Kenmore. The games are played on full-size fields such as Summi Lake Park, and require he use of -3 bas (Ohio High School Ahleic Associaion sandard). Las season, one of WABL s wo eams was made up almos exclusively of Firesone High School freshmen and sophomores. This year s EE-League eams were he Greens, managed by Tim Campbell, and he Falcons, managed by Chris Fuller. This year, wih he cooperaion of Firesone High School, we are working on arrangemens for he EE-League home games o be played a he brand new Firesone High School baseball field. Ohio Ho Sove EE-League does no sar unil afer school ends in June, ye complees a busy game season by mid-july. 7 V.P. of Girls Sofball Repor During he 2007 season, WABL fielded a oal of five eams, spanning hree leagues, and playing eams from Copley, Revere, and Highland.
