Over the two teams 5 meetings in 207, the LumberKings dropped eight games to the Chiefs to lose the season series 7-8. Clinton could not defend home filed and dropped all but two of the seven meetings at Ashford University Field. At Dozer Park the LumberKings faired better and won five out of the eight meetings. The LumberKings trail the all-time series, dating back to 983, 238 to 2. Since Clinton has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners (2009) they lead the head-to-head matchups 77 games to 52. LumberKings Starter: Ray Kerr, 23, makes his sixh start of the season for the LumberKings. The California native earned his first win of his professional career his last time out. The lefty worked five innings against the West Michigan Whitecaps allowing just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Kerr was also backed by the largest offensive outburst of the season. The LumberKings thumped the Whitecaps 3- to win the series. Kerr has been skipped in the rotation once before this season due to a blister on his pitching hand during his first start of the season. The Seattle Mariners signed Kerr as an undrafted free agent on August 7th of 207 out of Lassen Community College. His first professional career start was his LumberKings season debut on April 9th. Kerr is an avid fisher and has said if he was not playing baseball he would be a fisherman. Chiefs Starter: Alex Reyes, 23, makes his first start of the season for the Peoria Chiefs as part of a rehab assignment for the Major League St. Louis Cardinals. His first rehab start came with the Palm Beach Cardinals of High-A Florida State League. He worked 3. innings allowing no runs on four hits while walking one and striking out six. The start will be his first in the Midwest League since 204 when he spent all of his season in Peoria and went 7-7 with a 3.62 ERA. Reyes made his Major League debut in 206 with St. Louis. Primarily working out of the bullpen, he went 4- with a.57 ERA due to an injury during the first week of Spring Training to his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on February 4 th, 207. Due to the injury he missed all of the 207 season and is still listed as a prospect, the number one prospect, in the Cardinals organization. Reyes is known for a fastball that regularly hits 00 and ranges from 94 to 97, which works off a whipeout curveball that breaks 2-6. Last Time Out: A game controlled by pitching went the way of the Clinton LumberKings as they topped the South Bend Cubs 3-2 on Saturday night at Four Winds Field. Despite being outhit, 8-to-7, Clinton (8-3) topped the Cubs (4-8) to earn their second straight series win. South Bend started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning against Clinton starter Tommy Romero. With two out in the inning, Austin Filiere, Miguel Amaya, and Michael Cruz each singled to force across the first run of the game. In the top of the third inning, Clinton broke through to take their first lead of the night. Joseph Rosa and Eugene Helder led the inning off with singles and then moved to third on a ground out. Johnny Adams then lined a two out, two-run, single to left to turn what was a one run deficit into a one run lead. The LumberKings broke the tie in the top of the seventh inning without the benefit of a hit. Cubs reliever Jose Albertos issued four walks in the inning leading to the run. With runners a first and third and one out Ariel Sandoval bounced into what looked like an inning ending double play. Instead a hard slide by Eugene Helder at second created a seconds hesitation that allowed Sandoval to beat out the throw at first and score the runner from third. For his time out, Albertos (0-4) was given the loss despite not allowing a hit in his.2 of work. The lead held up Clinton thanks to strong pitching from Kyle Wilcox and Matt Clancy. Wilcox (2-0) threw 2. perfect innings of relief, striking out four, before handing the ball over to Clancy in the bottom of the eighth. On the Road Agian: After a league wide off day for Mother s Day, the LumberKings continue on in their road trip with the first of four games with the Peoria Chiefs. This marks the third stop of the season long 0-game road trip. Thus far, the LumberKings have won each of the first two series two game to one against the West Michigan Whitecaps and South bend Cubs. Return to the West: A series win over the South Bend Cubs marked the end of the first of two stints in the schedule where the LumberKings will play against the Eastern Division. After dropping the first five games to their Eastern Division opponents, the LumberKings rallied to win five of the final seven meetings. Against Western Division opponents this season Clinton is 4-6. Lefties Versus Peoria: Ray Kerr is one of two lefties the LumberKings are scheduled to throw against the Peoria Chiefs in this series. Peoria has struggled so mightily against left-handed pitching this season, they own one of the most dramatic disparities in the Midwest League. While Chiefs batters are collectively batting.304 against right-handers, they are batting just.95 (39/200) without a home run against left-handed pitching this season. Life on the Road: Dimas Ojeda has done a lot of his damage on the road this season. Away from Ashford University Field he is batting.395 (5/38) while slugging.605. The success on the road has meant a.345 overall average good for sixth best in the Midwest League. The Price of Speed: Recently the LumberKings have shown a more aggressive streak on the base paths. Three nights ago, they set a season high for most steals in a single game this season, four. The price of the aggrieve play though has been more caught stealings. Coming onto their series with the Peoria Chiefs they have 7 good for the second most in the Midwest League trailing only the Quad Cities River Bandits, 24. This date in baseball history: On this date in 920, the Giants inform the Yankees, tenants since 93, their lease to play at the Polo Grounds will not be renewed at the end of the season. There is speculation the National League team, which later will decide to continue sharing their home until the Yankees' new stadium is completed in 923, may have been reacting to the team's recent acquisition of Babe Ruth. Broadcast Information: Erik Oas returns for his second season as the voice of LumberKings baseball. All games will be broadcast live on 00.3 FM WCCI and online at LumberKings.com via the TuneIn Radio App. Series Information All-Time Series (983): Chiefs leads, Since 2009 (SEA): Clinton leads, : Series tied, 0-0 (of 5) In Clinton: Series tied, 0-0 In Peoria: Series tied, 0-0 One-Run Games: Series tied, 0-0 Extra-Innings: Series tied, Meetings: Date Location Result/Time 5/4 at Peoria 6:00 PM 5/5 at Peoria :00 AM 5/6 at Peoria :00 AM 5/7 at Peoria 6:30 PM 6/ CLINTON 6:30 PM 6/2 CLINTON 6:30 PM 6/3 CLINTON 2:00 PM 7/28 CLINTON 6:30 PM 7/29 CLINTON 2:00 PM 7/30 CLINTON 6:30 PM 7/3 CLINTON 6:30 PM 8/ at Peoria 6:30 PM 8/2 at Peoria 2:00 PM 8/3 at Peoria 7:00 PM 8/4 at Peoria 7:00 PM MWL st Half Standings MWL Western Division W-L GB Clinton Quad Cities Peoria Kane County Cedar Rapids Wisconsin Burlington Beloit MWL Eastern Division W-L GB Lansing Bowling Green Dayton West Michigan Lake County South Bend Fort Wayne Great Lakes *First Half Division Champion %First Half Wild Card Winner Upcoming Probable Pitchers: Clinton/Opponents.
