This year the LumberKings are have dropped three of four to the Chiefs at Dozer Park in May and then dropped the second meeting two games to three at Ashford University Field. The LumberKings trail the all-time series, dating back to 98, 40 to 6. Since Clinton has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners (009) they lead in the head-tohead matchups 79 games to 57 games. LumberKings Starter: Scott Boches,, makes his 0th appearance and fifth start of the season for the Clinton LumberKings. The Pennsylvania native, worked out of the bullpen his last time out. After rain suspended a contest, in which Ray Kerr had started, Boches game out of the bullpen when the game resumed the next day at Fort Wayne. Over a 4. innings of work against the TinCaps he received a no decision while allowing four runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two. Boches began the season in the bullpen before moving into the starting rotation. In his four starts this year he has been impressive despite having not earned a win yet as a rotation. As a starter, Boches is 0- with a.00 ERA while going - with a. ERA as a reliever this season. The Seattle Mariners selected him in the 0 th round of the 07 MLB Draft out of Marist College. Boches sang the national anthem after practicing once before on the team bus trip back from Kane County on July rd Chiefs Starter: Alex Fagalde, 4, makes his th appearance and th start of the season for the Peoria Chiefs. The California native, was given a no decision for a five inning outing against the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond. He ran his scoreless inning streak to games with five shutout innings of work. Fagalde allowed just one hit his last time out while walking two and striking out five. This will be his second start of the season against the LumberKings. Fagalde threw a season high 7. innings against Clinton on June rd at Dozer Park allowing just one run, a home run to Billy Cooke, on two hits while walking one and striking out 0. He was a three-sport athlete in high school, playing baseball, football, and track and field before continued his baseball career at Cuesta before transferring to UC Riverside where the St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the 0th round of the 07 MLB Draft. Fagalde led the Highlanders in wins during his senior season and second in ERA and moved into the starting rotation after beginning the season in the bullpen. Last Time Out: For just the second time this season the Clinton LumberKings were walked off, falling to the Cedar Rapids Kernels - in 0 innings. Following a ninth inning comeback, the LumberKings (7-6, 56-47) failed to record an out in the 0th as their losing streak reached four games. Ray Kerr started for Clinton and was sharp in a seven-inning outing in which he allowed two runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five. The LumberKings scored the game's first run, taking a brief -0 lead in the top of the second inning. Onil Pena doubled with two out in the frame and scored two pitches later on a Dimas Ojeda single through the left side of the infield. Still the LumberKings would get no more to show for their ninth inning and turned things over to Sam Delaplane in the 0th after Faucher (4-) had held Clinton scoreless in the top of the inning. Delaplane (4-) failed to record an out in the 0th and picked up his first loss of the season. A free base runner, as per Minor League Baseball's extra inning rules, an error and walk loaded the bases for Ryan Jeffers who drew the game winning walk. The loss is the LumberKings fourth straight and marks the first time they have been swept in a three games series in Cedar Rapids since May of 0. High Praise: For the first time in 08 and the first time since July of 07 the Clinton LumberKings have a Player of the Week honoree. Keegan McGivern earned the honor for a blistering week from July 6 th through the nd in which he batted.49 (9-for-) scoring five runs, with a double, two home runs, eight RBIs, five walks, and a steal of home. Over the week, the LumberKings went 9- winning three series including a three-game series sweep of the Lansing Lugnuts at Ashford University Field. Roster Moves: The Clinton LumberKings open the series with the Peoria Chiefs with some new faces on the roster. Left-handed pitcher Steven Moyers was assigned to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, for what is expected to be quick stop over while the Rainiers deal with injuries. Collin Kober, one of the LumberKings four all-stars this season earned a promotion to the High-A Modesto Nuts. In return the LumberKings will be receiving right handed pitcher Devin Sweets and Seattle Mariners eighth round pick in this year s draft Joey Gerber. Swept Aside: The Clinton LumberKings are coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the first place Cedar Rapids Kernels. It marks the third time this season that the LumberKings have been swept and the first time since May 8-0, 0 that the LumberKings have been swept by the Kernels in Cedar Rapids in a three-game set. Bonus Baseball Loss: Friday night in Cedar Rapids the LumberKings were handed just their second extra inning loss of the season on the road and the fourth overall this season. Oddly enough both of the times the LumberKings have been walked off this season have come in Cedar Rapids. The LumberKings still own a 9-4 record in extra inning games this season, the best record in the Midwest League Streaky Second Half: The Clinton LumberKings have been a very streaky team in the second half this year. The - 0 inning loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Friday night was the fourth straight loss for Clinton and is the LumberKings fifth time this season that they have lost three or more consecutive games. This is currently the second losing streak of the half and the fifth overall in the half. This date in baseball history: On this date in 98, American League president Lee MacPhail decides George Brett's 'Pine Tar' home run should count. The remainder of the game will be played on August 8 with the Royals beating the Yankees, 5-4. Broadcast Information: Erik Oas returns for his second season as the voice of LumberKings baseball.
